Should Azrael be a part of the Batfamily?

Should Azrael be a part of the Batfamily?

I recently read Knightfall and following Azbats stories for the first time and I have to say he was much tamer than I expected.
So many versions of Batman out there are much more brutal than him and I'd almost go as far to say that he did almost nothing wrong.

isn't he already tho? pretty sure i've seen him with a bat symbol lately

faggott can't even catch a blue midget, you expect him to catch the Joker?

Yes, but more as a distant cousin. Azrael should act more outside Gotham, as an international agent that hunts the Order and it's gene augmented soldiers.

Not only is he part of the Batfamily but he's got an armor that replaces his god with Batman. I don't know if Odyssey changed that though.

You have to remember the context. Azbats happened during a time where a lot of heroes were becoming edgier and a lot of popular new characters were all about the edge, and Knightfall was basically DC going "yeah we're not doing that with Batman and this is why." One might speculate whether that would've still been the story if Azbats turned out to be ridiculously popular, but that's another matter.

Azrael's reputation for edginess isn't because he's super over the top edgy like some other characters, it's that his entire arc is about why an edgy Batman would be awful.

He deserves more love, especially him being a designer baby is getting more and more important in recent times. The Order of St.Dumas could represent all the transhuman terror that a unbound science with a wish for human perfection and religious eternity could represent. Let the Order go full bio-mechanicus

Last time I remember him showing up was Batman Inc.
He was just kind of there, and gave the impression he didn't want to suit up.

Suiting up makes him an incel

He's the guy that beat Bane, but from what little I've read post-Knightfall that seems to have been his highest point. You'd think he would have a bigger presence and importance.

Now this I would like to read.

He kinda already is, just as an outlier like Gordan or Catwoman but less known than those two

The Order could be the Templars to the League of Shadow's Assassins. Order began smaller but already practized eugenics with its few member, centuries of selected breeding and murder of their weakest member until the 20th century. With genetic engineering its ascencion began, first gene augments were born then human immortality was deciphered and the Order spread across the globus. It's mission is clear: A perfect soul can only exist in a perfect mind that is carried by a perfect body - mankind can be perfect by a augmented elite of immortals

Shame that DC never remembers that lesson

It makes him fucking crazy.

Wasn’t he Batman for a while?

Jean-Paul should.

Some random dude using the name should not. Jean-Paul has barely enough connection, a legacy is stretching too much.

For a year

Isn't Jean Paul out in space right now

This is pretty much Knightfall in a nutshell. Most people just think of it of the story where Bane broke Batman's back. (It almost seems Chris Nolan did in his hodgepodge film. Though maybe you could argue Bane took Az's role.) It was so much more than that. It was about the very nature of Batman. It seemed like editor Denny O'Neil and a number of Bat writers rebelling against the trend of so many 90s comics. They let AzBats become what they hated so Bruce could take the mantle back.

Order Of Saint Dumas, League of Shadows, Court Of Owls, Leviathan.
How many secret societies are running around Gotham?! Am I forgetting any?

i still like this suit

Yes

I always look at the Batfamily like this.
You have the core members, the graduates, the recent additions and then associated characters.

Who is blue hair
Who is green face
Who is the hawk

why are there 2 batman logos?
blue hair is harper

>Who is green face
Oracle

green face is Oracle
I think the hawk is Birds of Prey

he should be considered part of the batfamily for fan lists and categorization. In-story, his only role in the batfamily is as a pariah cousin
