if it's a corporate secret, well then the entire art economy is fucked. it's already nearly impossible to make a living in any of the traditional arts, even small studios like Laika treat their 3d artists like temps. when you can make $1B on a movie by spending a few hundred thousand on running a supercomputer a few times, the movies become just a way to funnel money out of every town in the world and never give it back -- the goal of every corporation. Pikachu and Pokemon are probably one of the top 10 most recognizable franchises worldwide.
And yet it was still a relative unknown given that every video-game adaptation that had come before it had been complete and utter shit. With a track-record like that, it was guranteed to do well, despite the franchise it belongs to.
