I have dysphoria and was seriously considering transitioning for a long time so I did as much research into it as I could. I know about the risks of puberty blockers, that they cause permanent infertility (this fact is brushed under the rug), that HRT has to be taken for the rest of the person’s life, that it also causes infertility and increases the risk of blood clots and cancer.
The poster child for this, Jazz Jennings couldn’t get normal bottom surgery because xir penis never grew due to blockers, so it even hurts those it’s supposed to help.
So many people these days see transitioning as a cure-all to their self image problems, they are going to either de-transition or kill themselves in the next decade.

Mental illness isn't a person's identity: it's an illness that plagues and debilitates someone's identity.
Someone suffering from Schizophrenia, ADHD, Dementia, Alzheimers, Autism, or Asburgers would not have their 'personae' or 'identity' magically removed if they were cured from their mental illness- their identity would be richer and their quality of life would be better.

Not surprising - basic urological procedures like hypospadias correction or treatment of urethral stricture are plagued with difficulties and complications and those are relatively minor surgical procedures compared to something as ridiculous and involved as trying to transform a penis into crude facsimile of a vagina. Based on what I've seen from the handful of medical papers that actually follow up on this stuff - even the best case scenario for SRS is barely above straight up mutilation.

Recommending transition as a treatment to a mental disorder should, itself, be classified as a mental disorder.
