It's hard to describe. It's mostly just they have a completely different mindset. People in college can be stupid but for the most part they still have a somewhat... professional mindset? If that makes sense? Basically it just seems like the kids don't care about anything (which to be fair is probably because their parents signed them up for this stupid college thing during their summer break). Plus they're just loud and annoying in general and then stupid stuff, like they just won't listen (yeah I sound like a boomer), and even when they're "listening" they're not comprehending. The instructor had to constantly repeat stuff and basically go around one-by-one answering questions that were what he had already just explained. And this isn't learning a new subject, it was just basic stuff like getting their accounts set up etc.
Again, writing this all out reminds me that this is exactly how everyone was with teachers back when I was in high school. So saying "modern" high school students was probably wrong. It's not unexpected. Just jarring after only having worked with college students and staff/faculty for 5+ years (and the students I do work with are primarily grad students or higher, interaction with undergrads is pretty limited).
