>What's a subject or topic you've never seen done in webcomics, and would love to tackle?
I havent read enough webcomics to tell, but I think the south of my country is very beautiful and barren and would make for a great place for a story.

Attached: 3.png (918x1263, 1.14M)

sternum*
we don't really say 'craving for' unless it's using the word craving as a noun, as in "to have a craving for"
here she should just say 'craving it'

good stuff all around. really seeing improvement in your art.

Are you my glorious proofreader user? Thank you very much, this one was hard for me.

I'll always be here for you.

So comforting.

Attached: Twin Genie P9s PJ DEE.png (1000x771, 366K)

yes they are. Yours is a cartoon snake though so I suggest looking at puppet references.
if you wanted to go more realistic, I can get you a good guide on snake mouths (crazily their eyes sit pretty far forward on the head)

Which webcomic artists are pro-comicsgate and which are anti-comicsgate?
Feel free to add best guesses so I know who to subscribe to.

Sure, check this out if you feel like it design.tutsplus.com/tutorials/how-to-draw-animals-snakes-and-their-patterns--cms-21338
maybe you can do a joke about the snake turning totally realistic for one shot just to show things are getting SERIOUS

Are those an attempt at scales, or is the snake supposed to look like it has thorns coming off it?

more like random tufts of fur like hair, but I'm not going to draw that next time. I think the wings make the design cool enough as is.
I'll check this out later. My hand started to cramp after I sketched out Rau quickly, so I have to take a break right now.

WHICH ARTISTS ARE SJWS AND WHICH AREN'T.

Better?

I love it user, absolutely saved.

ohh
that's not really fun to talk about, because I like to try to get along with the ones with SJW leaning. They can actually be pretty fun to talk to or watch letsplays from. A lot of them don't even think of themselves that way, and the last thing i'd ever want to do is make some big show of rejecting them. I'd only drive them into the seemingly-loving (but actually highly conditional) bosom of the whackjobs.

what does this picture mean

a happy rau. The first digital rau I ever drew. Part of my "random pictures of my comic with no effort".

Attached: D2bSnwdXQAAPV9C.jpg large.jpg (2048x1626, 1.32M)

So you're conservative? What's your comic?

I don't want to talk to anyone who brings this kind of thing up and starts asking questions... Like if you like me, I don't want you to like me for that. and if you don't, I don't want it to be for that reason either.
The left invents, defines, and maintains these separations to control us all and make us more angry, scared, and reliant on big government and the media. While their media branch profits from all the clicks. I'm not gonna be a part of it.

So you're calling me a lefty now?
Fuck you.

What does Rau eat now that she has her memories? I do not believe human substitute pills exist in that universe.

The fuck is comicsgate?

I think you're someone with an unhealthy fixation on politics, which is bad enough on people with competent reading comprehension skills.

>forcing a political side on me
>trying to say I don't have reading comprehension

This fucking guy.

>What's a subject or topic you've never seen done in webcomics, and would love to tackle?
I have never seen a vaporwave themed webcomic. I have never searched for one either so it might exist. I've seen plenty of cyberpunk, but never one with the vapor aesthetic.
I have been mulling over a serious existential horror themed one based on D E R E L I C T by Death's Dynamic Shroud.wmv.
The idea was about a group of people scaling a massive tower/space elevator, and things get fuckier and fuckier as they get higher. The interior of the tower itself looks like an abandoned shopping mall and their are people living in it, who are slowly being driven mad since the tower never seems to end.

Probably more of a /y/ or /cm/ question but what kinda guys are “in” right now? Cowboys? Ayy lmaos? Goths? I’m trying to decide what kind of otome/fujo bait characters I should keep or remove from my webcomic

try browsing through popular bl comics on tapas. i often see "kpop" style boys if that helps.

When someone accuses you of that, it's a good idea to reread what you replied to, and consider that perhaps you misunderstood what they were getting across.
I actually assumed you were, well, that you THINK you're conservative, but picked up your views from Yea Forums

>What's a subject or topic you've never seen done in webcomics, and would love to tackle?
Most subjects/topics has already been done, but what I wanted is a setting with magical fighting and some slice of life elements so that's what I'm working on.

"I'm so woke I don't need to pick a side, unlike those leftie SFWs!"

I just rejected my second attempt at first page. I'm keep doing same mistake by drawing half assed sketch and then wasting my time trying to rebuild it in sai. At least it was way better than first one and i finally finished hair design. Three's a charm i guess.
Also gap between nose and chin is still my bane.

Isn't there a "convert to lineart" tool in sai?

So much for learning definitions from Yea Forums.
I'm going to give up now.

youtube.com/watch?v=Td5d0kEYee4&ab_channel=DanZFLT
No, you do it by hand.

Bless CSP

Why are you only updating your comic on webtoons now?

There will be mature content in future chapters which won't be allowed on sites like Tapas.

Any good tutorials how to do lineart in CSP? I basically draw on paper then take a photo and do a linework in sai over the photo. If there is faster way i need to know it.

Well for one thing, it's faster to do your preliminary lines digitally. You can make all kinds of alterations at the sketch phase.
For another thing you can use the tool/filter whose name escapes me that turns a scanned pencil image completely binary black and white (and even if it didn't, or you didn't want to use that, you could just multiply the pencil layer until it turns into nice dark lineart)

Fanart because I did a page of my webcomic, but didn't want to continue to the next page.

Attached: file.png (1021x849, 178K)

Here is another character sheet for one of the villains for my next chapter.
I thought it was only fitting to have an airborne themed enemy for an airborne sentai team.
I also got to redux my Skelecopter concept from a few months ago.
Please let me know what you think.

As for the sentai names, I think i am going to go with a color theme. I kind of grew fond of Sergeant Sable for the Blackbird pilot.

>want to see
something LGBT/left that's... astute, or comprehensive, or something. Everything I'm told about here is transparently self-serving, everything I can overhear elsewhere is based on some alien moon logic I can't crack (specifically companies apologize to the sane ones and the crazy ones which makes me scared they can't tell either), and the stories I can find about it like Moonstruck or Neokosmos are either shit or back to being self-serving. I want to see what they're seeing.

>want to make
Pic related, something about rebels set in hilly scrubland. That looks great to have a running gun battle in.

For Whom The Bell Tolls IN SPESS- ie a band of colorful fuckups who have like... 1 soldier between two gangs set off to oppose an empire an order of magnitude more competent than them. Had this thought when reading Inhuman, where one of the story threads is exactly that but without a lot of focus, where the actual main character lands on a planet and the city-managing Star Trek AI (which was not something established in the setting) just gives him the go ahead to stay and take a few hundred dollars in camping gear when he claims to be fleeing violence. The only other planet seen before looked like it was the 1950s. I'm not sure if it was intended but it made the Chrisodeo crew look very, very small.

Attached: Maquis land.jpg (1600x1198, 2.4M)

you and your fucking puns, I love it so much. I can't wait til your art starts living up to it, and I know you're trying. These vehicles actually present a great opportunity to think more about angles. for example the passenger box under the cartiligible (you're missing an i in there by the way) is drawn in profile while the blimp is turned towards us a little, and the dieplane's tail and ribcage aren't oriented on the same plane (hehe) as the wings (though if they were, you wouldn't be able to see them very well, so I understand how that happened)
I do think you could think of a better pun than dieplane though. I'm trying to think of one.. but all I can think of is 'avro marrow' and that would be a totally different kind of scarecraft.
there was a biplane called Polikarpov, that's begging for a 'Polikarpal' pun, but.. nobody would get it.

color names work, but is the blackbird pilot not in black? sable is brown. Which in turn makes me think about Shinesman, that fantastic one-off sentai parody where the businessman-themed heroes had trendy colors like salmon pink

>Something based entirely on self-diagnosed pseudopsychology is all self-serving and based on bad logic
you don't say

>straight fantasy but with a WW2/Vietnam tech level
Every now and then I'll see a picture of a furry holding a gun and be reminded that this just doesn't exist

>genre fantasy but really high quality

Attached: Too_Late_by_Pyrosityd3gfhd9.jpg (1280x960, 243K)

No not that- everyone bought it. It has to be based on something or there would be no one fucking pissed that you questioned it. I want to believe it. What am I not seeing?

What it's based on is imaginary. Simultaneously deeply personal and something that they need to make everyone else's problem and force them to stop and kowtow to.

Hardcore.

Attached: Untitled.png (705x671, 827K)

i honestly thought sable was black. back to the drawing board on that.
yeah im not fond of die plane either. Dry plane was my other alternative but it was equally meh.
definitely going to work on my orientations. i am looking at the blimp now and its really bugging me. people and creatures i kinda get, but vehicles of any kind moving in 3D space really throws me off. living things you can kinda fake their proportions and depth, but a vehicle if any kind will look totally wrong if you are even slightly off. especially planes.
this chapter i have practically exists for the sole purpose of learning vehicles.
thanks for the feedback

Dryplane works better because it gets Mario points, at least. Or biblical/soul music points, depending how far you wanna go back vis-a-vis dem dry bones.
Dunno how much this means, but what you're saying? Those difficulties? Everyone has those, and it's a good sign you're noticing the difference. I would suggest making a sketch layer with just a prism/box you draw that has the right perspective, and draw the vehicles inside that box. No part of them will get lost that way.

Man I should read the thread before posting!
Fuck off retard. You've been at this for six hours.

no one wanted to draw with me... but that's okay. I slept all day instead.

>What's a subject or topic you've never seen done in webcomics, and would love to tackle?
There's so many webcomics and I'm sure all kinds of things have been done. I think what matters a lot is how you tell a story that can make it especially unique.

I don't know if a webcomic is out there featuring battles between aliens and alien werewolves yet, but I'm happy to go for it with Space Pack.

Fruits, veggies, probably animal meat, plenty of milk. She eats a lot actually. It matters not though, due to the curse she is effectively starving herself to death no matter how balanced her diet is.

The good part is that since it is a curse and not actual lack of food, it could take a lot of time for it to kill her.

why bother

Make the couple the POV. Make the single guy slightly a psychopath. Literally the only way.

Why would you need a script to choreograph a fight scene?

Fug, you might be right. He needs to be fat too.

one of our other writers is writing a short story as kind of a promotional/world-building thing in preparation for our main comic. it's about a group of aliens who are stranded in a place where time does not exist and find solace in spending an eternity farming mould, aside from one of them who tries to pursue his fleeting memories of his old timeline
only the first chapter is out right now and updates are gonna be kinda slow since the comic isn't being released until november/december but here it is if anybody wants to give it a read, fictionpress.com/s/3338638/1/Chasing-Butterflies sorry it's on fictionpress for now, we're gonna move it to our own domain eventually along with the comic once we get that set up

Tom N Artie deal with one situation then instantly have to deal with another. At least they won't be bored on this job.

what a nice kid

Are you supposed to fully render each drawing in order to practice construction/perspective? It takes a lot longer to do that, and I think I'm lining up the small details wrong when I do that. Do I just draw over some dynamic poses or pictures of people, and then try to recreate that on paper to study construction?

I guess I have to add a bunch of life drawings/gestures of snakes to my to-practice now list. I'm making up new designs for Bonnie, pirate girl, so I can have a different model that's based on different set of shapes.

Attached: a girl_opt.jpg (800x575, 44K)

nah full rendering isn't important for perspective, and construction requires you to NOT do that, but instead construct out of shapes

then how would I know if I'm doing it right, if I can't see the end product?

the second have a little better contrast, the first one is ok also

Not so good if you do it alone and want to update your webcomic weekly.

This is terrible news. I want to do it alone and update frequently

i still struggle with it, but the trick is to lower the face down.
the eyes should be in the middle of the head with a smaller nose and mouth near the bottom very close together. give them bigger foreheads than your guys.
it took me like 3 months to finally get something feminine, and even then she looked like she had down syndrome.

>I want to do it alone and update frequently
You can only pick one of those.

Nothing inherently hard about drawing female heads, you just have a lack of experience with it. Try comparing a male and a female head and study the differences, and keep practicing until you are satisfied.

it's a fairly conflict-free fluffy couple(think anita and roger from 101 dalmatians) plus a person they pick up along the way who starts off a jerk but slowly turns nicer.

gave me a chuckle

Simplifyyyyyy... man!

I'm not trying to knock anyone down who is clearly pretty good at realism, but those faces are made of nightmares.

try to stack the words a little better

and i think you might do with a proof reader, for example you're missing some punctuation like full stops, and some sentences don't flow naturally, i assume because of translation

Maybe around Halloween ill do a sort of pilot for Derelicts. If it gets a positive reaction, it might become a thing.
The idea so far is that it would be 84 chapters each corresponding to a floor and a song from the album.
Most floors would be empty storefronts with advertisements playing for nobody. Sometimes there would be raiders or killers lurking about. Think post apocalyptic if it took place inside a Sears.
Meanwhile other floors would have thriving societies where people live happy, if stagnant lives within the tower.
Allegedly at the top of the tower lies some forbidden knowledge, heaven, something wonderful and unclear.
Trying to scale back down the tower is a death sentence. Once you start up, you can never find your way back down, and attempting to do so could mutate you or drive you mad, the degrees of which are based on how far you venture backwards. Like one or two floors down, you will be fine. After about 3 or 4 you can become disoriented. 10 or more is insanity. These are known as turnbackers.
You can actually spend years, if not lifetimes stuck in the tower, because time doesnt flow right, and gets worse the higher you go. The building is transient, rooms kind of shift in an out, the place has electricity and is clean, but hasnt been occupied in eons. Stores will have products with no one to sell them.
The idea is that the tower is a sort of symbol for stagnation, and the arc words are "You have to climb the tower." This is repeated over and over again, pretty much in response to any set back. There are no other options. You have to climb the tower.

It sort of came to me as i was daydreaming and listing to this album.

Another dumb question, wtf is comigate!?

You're good with puns, maybe try doing puns instead of direct song title names. I think that would be better, even if it's not a comedy. Personally, I think it would be more fun to come up with pun titles.

>draw a good hand
>realize I put the thumb where the pinky should be

a classic. I like yours there, its very expressive. Grabing my face its an expression I pull a lot but drawing it is very difficult.

Stop asking dumb questions and giving attention to trolls

Might be a good call. I'm sure i can come up with more meaningful names, and to better differentiate it from the source material.
I got to seriously flesh it out. I have no characters at all at this point. Just a general aesthetic. It may turn into something new entirely.

Question concerning a planetary romance premise. It's basically just space opera, but on a single world.

So the whole planet of hats thing is stupid. But is it acceptable when applied to countries? Will audience suspension of disbelief hold up with a smaller scale?

just say something is common, not universal. nothing wrong with that.

>People in counties don’t share a common culture and values
What are you, European?

oh my god user you cant just ask someone if they are european

Setting aside that cheese is part and parcel to planetary romance, audiences already do accept planet of hats. It just depends on what you want for your story. Though I guess that's dodging the question- personally I believe planet of hats more than country of hats, it's easier to believe a planet is self contained and self reinforcing. A country is going to have a lot of little border villages that pick up traits and methods from both neighbors.

Can i have a text revision?
in particular the part of "gross fatfuck-dicklette.. etc"
Does it sound good in English or strange?

Attached: 009 jpg chico.jpg (1125x1593, 767K)

It looks like the T on the second 'dat' got cut off
I have no idea what a dicklette is, but if it's supposed to be in the same vein as 'manlet' then you'd take off the extra te, but that doesn't make sense in context (you aren't the dicklet, IT is). If you want an existing term, 'dickless wonder', 'microdick' etc.
Also this guy is looking way less ugly than last time.

bump

thaks!
the new text is
"oh boy Imagine being a lardass with a little wienner working cleaning shit all day long" (miraculously enters on the bubble) i think is better
in the other page it was uglier to show it in a bad situation, while talking about being optimistic.

Attached: 008.jpg (1125x1593, 1.07M)

just fyi, despite the etymology from 'Vienner', wiener only has one N

Family obligations this week have delayed progress. I expect that I won't have two pages done this week, which will make next week, the final week of Chapter 1, a four page update. For now, I just have the most recent pages of The Concord Initiative.

I will post six of them.

Attached: CI_Ch1_Pg83.png (940x1216, 1.07M)

Prospective Title page for chapter two.
I want every title page to feature the main mecha of each one if applicable. (later ones, like the Dr. Ann Thrax arc will not have a starring mecha.)

This is the Sky High Sentai mecha, Turbulancer.
I went with a bit of a knightly theme mixed with the modern aircraft.
I tried to give this one more details compared to Justisaurus, including more mechanical joints, and some more vehicle kibble.
I admit i phoned in the skeletons. I had a rough day at work, and i really wanted some feedback on the Turbulancer design.

>What's a subject or topic you've never seen done in webcomics, and would love to tackle?

There are all manner of period pieces of the 17th and 18th centuries that are almost never use. The colonial era is such an interesting time. I'm eager to write a horror comic about Native Americans, European settlers, and the New World. That entire setting is a goldmine of drama and poignancy.

I'm a genuine proponent of diversity in comics, but that usually manifests itself as a cast quota rather than as wide range of genuinely exotic stories. That's part of the reason why I'm thrilled to be working with Hapsburg Spain and the Papal States as my primary focus for The Concord Initiative.

Attached: CI_Ch1_Pg84.png (940x1216, 752K)

I just love the recurring theme of how poorly the Manipod fits in

I'm a big proponent of using real world parallels in fantasy. In fact, I'm tempted to describe The Concord Initiative as Historical Fan Fiction, which makes me sheepish.

Attached: CI_Ch1_Pg85.png (940x1216, 777K)

Wouldnt have it any other way. Poor thing cant even fly!

With explicitly real world world analogues, you can explore unique and obscure cultures and aesthetics in the real world--profit off the exoticism as fantastical but grounded, while representing and intriguing cultures that you otherwise wouldn't really think about. I adore Northern and Central Europe as much as the next guy, but there's tremendous opportunity out there.

Attached: CI_Ch1_Pg86.png (940x1216, 569K)

Another thing I absolutely want to see more of is a comic that takes itself seriously. Most media these days is infected by the internet/Hollywood/SNL virus, which demands that snarkiness/sarcasm/dis-ingenuousness interrupt and break tension/conflict regularly. Writers these days seem terrified of genuine tension and simmering, peculating conflict.

Attached: CI_Ch1_Pg87.png (940x1216, 546K)

I love this page. It reminds of some of Anthony Francisco Schepperd's stuff.
youtube.com/watch?v=lF_C7BvAf_A

And then, on a more personal note, I would certainly love to see media with a more good faith focus on religious themes. I think the balance needs to be redressed, these days. Skepticism, cynicism, and pragmatism are pretty stale, now, especially in stories. Stories like Man of La Mancha and Les Miserables are due for a comeback.

That is intriguing... thank you!

Attached: CI_Ch1_Pg88.png (940x1216, 985K)

Yeah there's nothing like really wrapping your head around a scenario by making an implicit connection to something that really happened
and even better, you can do alternate history without all the goofy shit that tends to get tied in with that. I had a whole post about this with ideas, but I just fucked it up just now by hitting the wrong keys or something.
well that's probably because seriousness is boring, and we're trying to escape from real life.
You are definitely speaking my language.

I still cant wrap my had around adding blurring to my coloring style. I hate just running with hard cell shading and want to add more to it but I can't get a good product when I mix in soft shading.

Attached: dfgsdfgdfsgdfsg.png (624x864, 207K)

I struggle with seriousness. I can only do it if I am doing horror, and even then I need to break the monotony.
Really it comes down to genres with me. If its a period piece then yes i demand it be serious. If its a comic with superheroes and shit, I want it to be as campy as humanly possible.
Tonal dissonance i cant deal with. Like i could never get into Attack On Titan because it was vietnam levels of grimdark, and I liked it up until Erin turned into a titan. The moment he got super powers, i was unable to take it seriously. I still think it should have just been humans vs titans from day one. None of the shifter shit.
Star Trek and Jojo on the other hand I love because they are the definition of camp. They take it seriously in context, but we as viewer are not supposed to take it seriously. Nonetheless you can still get drama in their despite the absurdity because it is serious in universe.

A really good story can manage its highs and lows with sincerity. Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and Space Dandy (all by the same guy) do this magnificently.

You and me both, brother. If you figure out how to make it not suck, let me know.

>I struggle with seriousness. I can only do it if I am doing horror,
I heavily disagree with this. You don't need grimdark horror tones to make a story serious. In fact, it's perfectly fine to have a serious tone while still retaining comedy in story.

fuck all weebs

what brought that on?

have you not noticed that a large portion of the people here are copying manga?

Then leave, bitch.

have creativity

Left hand needs work, but it is good otherwise.

which ones?

Have an open mind.

Well said. A lot of anime are just pure misery porn, channeling a culture that's been through a lot of suffering and is currently suffering under the crushing weight of -success-
Personally I need a tiny bit more weight in anything action-related in order to enjoy it. The floatiness of OK K.O. has made it hard to hold my interest since nothing matters.

>weebs getting fucked for once
That would solve a lot of our problems

>Well said. A lot of anime are just pure misery porn,
Gee, I wonder why Japan focuses on this.

>Star Trek and Jojo on the other hand I love because they are the definition of camp.

Star Trek was never meant to be camp, and you were never supposed to really take it as camp as the viewer. The only thing campy about ST was maybe OG Star Trek where there were literal rubber monster suits, and throwing Styrofoam rocks at aliens. But ST was always meant to be about a progressive future of all races and peoples working together toward a higher and much more important goal, and even the science was always meant to be sound, or at least as feasible as possible.

I feel like my post kinda already hinted at that
yeah that's not really fair said about star trek, but I also feel like we're getting to a point in history where 80s scifi is feeling as campy as the 60s did in the 90s. The idealism is so naive, and often blatantly pushy in a way you can only laugh at. It misses the mark with its ridiculous social messages about as often as 50s b-movies missed the mark with science. TNG only had that for about 2 seasons, and became nice and comfortably-90s pretty soon afterwards (come to think of it, The Simpsons had a similar experience) but if you go back and watch something like 80s Twilight Zone, clearly trying its best to live up to serious, thought-provoking scifi, and it falls on its ass like a baby with rickets.

Very true, but the same could be said about Adam West Batman or most of the Godzilla movies.
I'm certain if i grew up when they were new, i would have regarded them as schlock and not paid any attention. Nowadays i find that dated cheesiness very appealing.
I think the appeal of camp is the sincerity of it. Star Trek and Godzilla were both incredibly ambitious for their time, and they made due with limited technology and practical effects.
I quite enjoyed the modern reduxes of both series, but they lack that same earnest charm the old ones had.

Like if by some miracle my comic ever got a tv show, i would probably opt for it to be live action with big foam rubber costumes rather than animated.

I hate people like you

Fair enough. I am douchebag.

I like camp too, but I think a large part of the 50s and 60s also just comes to a lot of things not being well understood. Science is advancing all the time, so some of those decades are so far removed that the scientific knowledge may as well have been from the stone age. I mean, this is an era where people kind of assumed radiation just either gave people powers, or made animals and bugs really big.

Most of the science was terrible, but it was just there to get a giant spider or a weird moss monster on screen.

For the record, I love that stuff, and a lot of my comic stuff is kind of inspired by a lot of old campy/pulpy 50s, 60s, and 70s sci-fi and horror. I feel like Star Trek actively tried to do the opposite of that.

I so wish anything was being made today with rubber suits.
Really, that kind of thing had both earnest and intentionally shitty examples. I can understand camp appeal but it's just important to remember there's a big difference between the unintentional examples and the ones where they just didn't care..

As I understand it, the experts knew all the real science back then, but the average joe just didn't give a fuck and wasn't being educated about it. That's why they could sell zero-effort snake oil everywhere.
Now every student is indoctrinated with whatever the current scientific dogma asserts, with the understanding that we all know it, we all agree, so we are right. Totally different, but also basically the same, since the average person didn't really "learn" anything and could be convinced of literally any subject no matter how bizarre.

july's been a pretty low-traffic month for me, not sure why. either way I'm just happy to keep drawing as much as I can.

Attached: 20190731_115216_0001.jpg (2550x3300, 1016K)

I guess i misunderstood. As far as writing is concerned, Star Trek was the most grounded sci-fi for its time.
I was talking more from a production value point of view. Any campiness Star Trek picked up is simply from the budget constraints of a TV show in the 1960's, not from the actual substance and themes of the show itself.

I will say there's a paradoxical earnestness from cheesy 60s productions that were hampered by budget but still tried, in a time when so little of what you see onscreen is real, yet "live action" is being pushed as the only acceptable entertainment for adults, with CG as a close second.

I wanted to stream and share but no one was interested

still working on it tho

aw sorry, I don't like watching streams while I'm drawing, I can't focus on both
This looks great!

it looks like tonight's thread not gonna fall!

>As I understand it, the experts knew all the real science back then, but the average joe just didn't give a fuck and wasn't being educated about it.

I think its probably not so dissimilar than it is today. Sure, people have access to a lot more, but it seems like everything we think we "know" about science changes quickly as new discoveries, information, etc comes around. Much of the science in modern Sci-fi is pretty whack too, but a lot of times its just kind of there to get the story moving.

That's why its usually best to just NOT address the science and have it be a part of the world or a means to an end to move things along. That's why sometimes you like a BS crash-course in quantum physics in a time travel movie or something, but its kind of better if its left a bit ambiguous.

Star Trek was literally one of the first movies to ever use CG

yeah and they were so proud of it, they sat and stared at it for ages. Woof, that was a boring movie.
actually it was because they ran out of money and had to spend the most time on the stuff they'd put the budget into. actually I don't remember anymore, ask sfdebris what happened.

Alrighty the crossover pic is done! My artist did a pretty good job on it! The only actually webcomic characters on this are Kale and Rei from Cyborg Kale while the other two (green girl called Nameless and the one on the ice called Fridge Girl) are from two upcoming comics.

Attached: CROSSOVER FIGHT.png (1330x940, 1.97M)

and Tom n' Artie of course
Boss.

Oh yes of course! I just figured that part was self-explanatory!

Does anyone have a script that needs someone to read it? I'd be happy to do so.

Oh yeah and Big Mama too in her first ever color appearance.

To me the self-explanatory part was Big Mama
yeah

What's Tom n Artie even about?

Two mercenaries travel across different dimensions in search of profit and adventure. It's an action/comedy comic following the stoic unicorn professional Tom with his cartoon wildcard buddy Artie.

are the different dimensions just excuses to draw crossovers or does it serve a plot point

It's a plot point. The comic is pretty episodic where they go to a new dimension and do a job there. Each dimension is different with their own problems or issues the duo will have to deal with for the job they get hired for.

The crossover pics are just because the premise of the comic easily allows them to be made without much question. Also just cause we think it's fun.

Sounds like a less cute and probably more well-constructed Bee and Puppycat. Good premise.

You can read it here:

tapas.io/robl84ster/series

There's two versions that's main Tom N Artie and Tales. Tales is just shorter jobs of the duo but different artstyles each story. The webcomic isn't really lore intensive. I intended it that all you need is a basic understanding of the duo (which is summed up in the 8 page Issue 0) then you can pick up on the comic at any issue.

Good lord man, are you trying to sabotage him?

>"Open your eyes," said someone from the other side of his trance- dream. "Properly, I mean."
>Sal blinked, first with his primary eyelids and then with his silvery, membranous ones
The mood is supposed to be comedy with a subtext of cosmic horror, right? (if you scrutinize too much you lose sight of the bigger picture). I would have gone with that opening that fantasy YA really likes for describing their main character, where the heroine is sulking for one reason or another and just incidentally passes by a mirror, except as the description goes on it becomes more and more clear Sal isn't a runaway princess with self-image issues

>Wounds didn't heal naturally in the Envelope, but they never quite infected either, and they stopped hurting after a while; Sal had a particularly nasty gash he'd forced himself to sew back up on his lower thigh. Ransa, proud as he was to attest, didn't have a single one. He was too careful to let anything like that happen to him
Why isn't everyone's hands salsa? ::thinking::
for srs though, the more focus you put on the nature of a world without time the less flexibility you have. Both the moss growing and the characters living requires time going forward, which is harder to handwave when you put focus on how time is stopped

>"...What do you think that says about our place here?" Fitch said, gazing back up at the clouded expanse. "I don't like to imagine what's beyond the veil. Really, I don't . I kinda like it down here. It's nice and snug. Those things are just cold reminders of how *tiny* we all are..."
I've been working at this post too long and fucking forgot how I wanted to put this but characters up and saying "yeah it's Lovecraft" just feels weird.

Speaking of unsolicited opinions on Lovecraft! Cosmic horror monsters aren't strong in an absolute sense, that gets thrown around a lot, so what I think the Lovecraft mood comes from is from the characters feeling very mortal- The heroes actually are random schlubs instead of being presented like that, the peasants are all fearful and clannish and distant, etc etc. It makes the mood feel very dire. It also gives an easy segue into other moods by just having the characters choose that moment to take a stand.

Don't ultimately think I liked it; too slow to be comedy and not intriguing enough to be lovecraft. Not a problem if it was for fun but it's phrased like this is supposed to be a chapter 0 for the main project, a thing for fans to pick up or new readers to find. It doesn't look like something that would hook me on the story.

Yes please

When will you publish it?

been a rough week so I haven't been able to get as much done as I'd like, but I'm working on this page right now, probably will have it done by tonight. The story so far is that the main character has a near death experience and he finds himself in whats basically hell for a bit. You can check out the previous pages here imgur.com/gallery/2XkRQ5k
What do you guys think?

>1st panel

>3rd panel
titty monster: "my oh my! The things I'd let him do to me!"
>4th panel

bird turtle: "hyuck hyuck! his eyes look nice and juicy!"
>6th panel

>7th panel
from off page: "So..."
>8th

Is he in hell?

pretty much, the comic is going to deal with mental landscapes and the astral realm, so where he is now will be later described as a very very low part of the astral plane.

I want to draw a comic with cute girls but I don't know how to draw cute girls. This is the worst

Keep with the good job.

youtube.com/user/ProkoTV
honestly this channel gives pretty good advice, sure as hell helped me a lot.

It's still incredibly jarring to me how shit he is at drawing from imagination

How dare you link me videos that'll help me actually be a good artist. I just wanna draw cute girls now

yeah but how else are you gonna be able to draw titties like if you don't learn the fundamentals?

I guess I can add becoming a good artist to the list. I should make terrible comics until then though or I may never get started

thank you user. I'll never stop

thats the spirit!

>The more focus you put on the nature of a world without time the less flexibility you have.
yeah i noticed that issue when that sort of thing crops up in the main comic, probably going to adjust it so that it's a place where the nature of time is just utterly fucked and doesn't really flow right rather than not existing flat-out. that's sort of touched upon in the first chapter, but i'll bring it up properly with him again

>Lovecraft
oh the guy really, really fucking likes lovecraft and is his main inspiration for a lot of his works lol. there's some aspects of it in the comic itself but it's a lot more toned down. that's a very good point though

>Not a problem if it was for fun but it's phrased like this is supposed to be a chapter 0 for the main project
ah, sorry, that's my fault with how i presented it. it is mainly just for fun and more of an independent piece he's writing. it's sort of just meant to be more of a nudge for people to check it out i suppose. it doesn't tie into the main story itself majorly or anything

thank you so much for the feedback! i'll be sure to relay it back to him

yeah lots of people do that, and even moreso in the discord/s.

retard here again
I doing something fundamentally wrong so i decided to post step by step what am i drawing so you can yell what i'm doing wrong.
Here is a fucking circle.

Attached: 1.png (1000x1000, 23K)

Then i add a chin, right?

Attached: 2.png (1000x1000, 36K)

Well that's pretty close, but your lines aren't shaped right.
Those lines aren't exactly shaped wrong, but they could be worse. Your frontal facial line is more lined up now, I see you redid it.

Nose?

Attached: 3.png (1000x1000, 33K)

Think about the "back" of the nose, as if you were placing a shape on a mr. potato head
what you've done is line up the front of the nose with the face line. This results in a nose that's digging into the face instead of sticking out. If this were a 3d model, you could only see the tip and the rest would be inside the face mesh you previously established. Faces do go in at parts, but this will relate more to the following:
You also put it way too low, given the cheek line you established earlier (or in another way, you made the cheek line too high)

>Think about the "back" of the nose, as if you were placing a shape on a mr. potato head
Like this? I made silhouette of the base of the nose.
>You also put it way too low, given the cheek line you established earlier (or in another way, you made the cheek line too high)
Should i put nose higher or cheeks lower?

Attached: 4.png (1000x1000, 36K)

Alright now I'm feeling like you're doing a lot better. But the face looks too wide now. The top of a head isn't really a sphere after all, but closer to a sphere with the sides sliced off, so maybe you want to narrow up this jaw portion. and take the cheek down just a smidge, feel where the corner of your eye is, the shape your face makes, and where that lines up with your nose.
Remember the back of the head hangs out a decent amount behind the ears.

Who is your own favorite character?

It's, uh, a little complicated.... They do sort of just look masculine like that, but there's a reason for it that'll be addressed in the comic!

I'm aiming to have it ready by the end of the year, hopefully! I'm currently roughing out the entire story which takes the longest.... But after I've got that done, I'll just need to finish the pages!

You really ought to do some life studies.
That jaw is just completely off. Even if the rest were perfect, it'd still look incredibly weird.

I would recommend that you look at actual anatomy for reference. there are various ways to break it down, you have to find your own way.

you need to think about the relationship of where the bone and muscles live, you are lacking a visual library in your mind, build up that library by studying real people.

remember that you cant be using anatomy foundation based other people's works. doing so will have you learning bad habits and solutions that you wont understand the logic behind them.

this example is just one of many on how you can break down things, but this is just mine. this works for me.

if you want to improve then you need to have patience and dedication to keep drawing. so keep at it user, you can do it.

image didn't post, here.

You need a mental visual library. If you have lapses in your knowledge, without proper reference you'll only grow frustrated and quit.

What is your comic about?

Tell me, what kind of weebshit pisses you off the most? I'm thinking of doing something waifubaitey and I need some inspiration.

Every time i do that i realize that everyone using circle for a head differently, sometimes almost randomly with different proportions and that just triggers my autism. I can't find the middle ground between too simple art and too much details. I should probably blindly copy someone's else style.

Attached: 6.png (1000x1000, 69K)

Again, What is a visual library?

That's because the circle doesn't correspond to anything on the head, and every head is different. it's just a good way to start, a guide to keep things even. you have to work out your own method. That's what you're doing right now. You're working it out. you're trying, it's not all working

>Every time i do that i realize that everyone using circle for a head differently
That's because there isn't "one way" to do anything in art. You don't even need to use a circle (and many people in fact don't).
You just have to find a way that works for you.
>I should probably blindly copy someone's else style
Not a terrible idea, but you better make sure that it's someone really good and not too cartoony.
It's a memey metaphor about knowing how things look, so you don't need reference for it. You can just google shit like this, you know.

>Not a terrible idea
in fact, it can be a fantastic learning tool to reverse-engineer a drawing. Take a finished or copied or traced drawing, then put the guidelines on it. draw the construction underneath it, then look at that layer and you'll already have learned more than you knew before.

Another preview from my next comic BITE with this panel from page 4. I'm still gonna try to get the ashcan ready for SVCC, I'll just use a local printer in San Jose for it. Ashcans are meant to be cheap and disposable anyway.

Attached: BITE PREVIEW shot6.png (4109x2689, 2.99M)

geez, how long did this take?

Okay, i decided to draw a male character without whole circle thing straight to the point and it came out much better. Mostly because i stylized the drawing by using simple shapes. At least now i know i'm not hopeless, all i need is to crack a code for female faces.
I still blame females though.

Attached: 1554954157030.jpg (640x625, 28K)

Well for one thing, you're drawing a very large lower face, while females have a smaller lower face. More childlike. Even a Cruella type woman at least has a thinner face than a man

Like i said before, female chin is my bane.

You have digital art at your command, try selecting areas and just fucking with them. horizontally, vertically, keeping the scale while growing or shrinking.. you'll get it.

Attached: 2019AUG01_no_prize.jpg (615x1200, 123K)

can rococo even fight?

Rococo deserves more than that.

Giving that one girl a super long face sometimes always fucks with me. Reminds me of some Azumanga Daioh shit.

you've got moxy kid! you remind me of a young Christian Weston Chandler!

not him, but rococo is some top tier action magical girl with insta magic spells bullshit. She can fight very well as far as I know.

Well, I do intend for her to be able to fight, but I haven't gotten to that in current iterations yet.

aww

I do like Azumanga, but the joke is that Vivian has a long face, some girls made fun of her saying that she is "horse face viv".

Sorry I haven't been getting to some of the interesting stuff, like more fights. Its probably from one of my one-off pages, but I don't quite remember insta magic spells, but you are giving me ideas.

Attached: rococo_reboot_storyboard_2015OCT10.jpg (702x6285, 2.43M)

show me some insta-magic spells

ah, I had a faint idea that she could cast spells without incantations. My wrong probably.

When's the next catfight tournament?

Post your work or fuck off. This isn't Tumblr, R3dd!t, Deviantart, Conceptart, or . If you only came here to start shit, then fuck off back to the site that you came from.

Have this LWA inspired Rococo sketch with my oni girls acting as her girl posse.

You can look tall with the right camera angles.

no, lets make a different event. I can throw some ideas.

Attached: 1450418327-3b271419052ccef6592e0c4772c15e25.jpg (600x337, 130K)

Sure. What are your ideas?

All /hyw/ characters challenge Rau to a baby-eating contest.

?

stop the bullying

Attached: azu png.png (260x263, 53K)

1. We read dialogue from webcomics and record ourselves.
We are already embarrassing enough, lets go beyond!
2. We draw a page of another author webcomic, just what we can imagine could happen in the story. No real effort needed, im talking about just sketches here.
3. Arm wrestling contest, men invited.
4. Fashion contest, men also invited. Let make it open.
5. Draw your character but bald. Gasparro need not to apply.
6. Cooking show with Rau! Alright this one is just a joke.
7. Draw two different webcomic characters dating and ruin both authors lives!
8. Death.
9. I had more ideas some time ago, im busted here, but I think those arent half bad.
10. Webcomic race! Design your character`s car. Quite the endeavour cause I dont know how to draw even a bicicle.

Something like that?

my character isn't that degenerate

fourth post here
I was just making a joke on the sex word
because we havent had sex but it might help

1. dammit that's my talent, but almost nobody in my comic is a voice I can do
2. I like a lot about this idea
3. and this one, though not so much as a contest as a fun activity
4. now this, for sure.
7. This is best if neither one is yours, I would love to see what happens..
10. remember when we wanted to make this a game? It actually would be one of the easier game types to make, since a car doesnt have to move much. 2d or 3d it'd be like the easiest way to collaborate.

Spooky. I like it!

>dammit that's my talent, but almost nobody in my comic is a voice I can do
It can be someone`s else comic!

Making a game would be incredibly fun but beyond some attempts at designing I couldnt help there, I have zero game design.

Fashion contest with someone else's character, catfight, or cooking show. Doubt car one would get any entries, and I can't voice act for shit.

>someone else's
yes, this I could do
i wonder if there's a racing gamemaker. it's gotta be the fucking easiest thing to program.

What type of characters can you voice?

gahh this is when I really wish I'd get on with making my character demo already
There's at least a few examples here, dumbass shit I read for Yea Forums audioboom.com/ColdFusion

Can anyone here voice a girl? It seems like it's mostly girls that enter these tournaments.

Good stuff!!

The plan was to spend a month making random comics and then start a real one that I cared about but instead I drew random stuff all stream and a viewer request. Tomorrow I'll make a terrible comic and post it here

>spends entire time drawing studies of elven ears for Azu and Rau
>doesn't post it

Dewd is pretty good at it, not gonna lie.
I sometimes wonder if I could put on the right tone and then pitch it up like Hyadain

can you link their work?

Hyadain? youtube.com/watch?v=tv-dEz9HW10

Still working on a script, but I made a rough drawing of a scene I had planned for early on in the story. This is one of the two protagonists getting her hair braided during a festival being held by their diminuitive elven hosts for the evening. The other protagonist is off panel getting drunk with the other villagers, though I wanna have that scene on paper as well.

Attached: 20190801_182242.jpg (3420x1960, 2.31M)

He doesn't speak English?

I wasn't intending to audition this person for you, just pointing out this is a guy using pitch-shifting
Hella cute!

Since the splash page for the second issue is basically done (just needs some color adjustments), I figured I'd make this image about how you make a comic with a full contingent of collaborators. This is wholly different from how single creator comics work.

Attached: methodology1.jpg (3366x3002, 2.42M)

>why would anyone need patience and dedication for a fucking webcomic?
lol filthy millennial scum.

More muscles, please.

wtf more waifus enter the fray. I can't handle this.

It was so bad though. Gonna study cute things, figure out what hair is and fix my mic

Look at this showoff, cute girls and hair braiding

>>spends entire time drawing studies of elven ears for Azu and Rau

Whoa really? Thats uplifting to read. Hope it helped your art in some way.

Yeah, he spent most time on just erasing and re-drawing ears.

In my defense they were different types of pointy ears and it was only like 30% of the stream

Attached: smrt.png (1027x731, 28K)

takes one to reply to one

Why do you consider references to be cheating?

They're not cheating at all, I was already using one to draw Rau and I didn't pull any more up because my desk can only fit either my keyboard or my tablet.

Other than straight up copying a reference I'll use them all the time. Trying to draw something from memory is a great way to realize how little you know about what it looks like

I kinda really wanna see that Rau

He drew Azu, unless Rau also has two horns.

I like 2, 3, and 10.
Particularly 10. Wacky races would be fun as hell.

I dont have enough cute girls yet to enter the cute stuff.

Tfw Tad cant enter the bald contest either.

Attached: the Drak Shak.png (752x300, 103K)

Number 10 could be fun. HYW wacky racers!

It was just a failed mugshot but here are some screens from the vod. On the left is me saying I'm gonna stop because I don't know how to draw hair or big eyes. The right is me later confirming I can't draw hair or anything else.

Redemption arc starts tomorrow

I'm still not convinced they're not the same person based on the chapters I skimmed for references

Attached: rauzu.png (849x436, 131K)

Attached: wanna meet that dad.jpg (440x330, 28K)

what kind of voice did you imagine Tad having?

Welp, I certainly want to see that Azu too.

...

Oiii, you got my weeb style pretty much nailed honestly.

Most of the time i hear Johnny Utah. He has that mix of cool action hero, and totally jaded old guy that seems about right.
youtube.com/watch?v=4vsoZa5S3ws

I also sometimes hear Dana Snyder when he is being an annoying asshole. Because he is an annoying asshole.
youtube.com/watch?v=HEbNp2KHbwQ

So a slightly deeper Master Shake

That makes a lotta sense.

I like 4, and 6 but with no babies involved. I also like the idea of getting a voice.

Posting some roughs

Attached: Twin Genie P10 roughs Dee_small.jpg (800x898, 73K)

Alright! The people have spoken!

Registration for the HYW Wacky Races is go!

Just tell us the name of comic (if any), the name of your driver/drivers, and the name of their car.

Attached: Wacky Races.jpg (1449x1080, 121K)

Are we drawing other comic characters?

Im obviously in but to be fair I feel like its one of my worst suggestions. Most authors here probably have zero interest in drawing a car.

Well, im in anyways.

Can we do a different one?

To be fair, wacky races “cars” aren’t so much cars as fantasy machines with wheels.

>The people have spoken!
Once again, they have not. I appreciate how proactive you are, but if people have spoken about anything, it's the way you kinda steamroll over the threads pushing your activities. The planning stage is not over yet.

>Now hold on there, let’s do something else!

This is why HYW contests consist entirely of 2 bikini fighting tournaments.

There's nothing wrong with bikini fighting contests.

perhaps we should get a strawpoll going.

There's not much right about them either. It's cheap repetitive cheesecake and it gets old fast, and basically automatically excludes anyone with mainly male characters or children characters. If you're gonna do cheesecake again at least vary it up.

>at least vary it up
So you're either a homo or a pedo. Either way, shut your mouth.

I'm all for bikini tournaments, but come on. You know what he's saying.

I'm saying if you wanna draw cheesecake of women do a different sort of challenge. Where the fuck did you get pedo and homo from?

Well, more like 1 and 1 that petered out. That being said, it would be cool if Rococo fought the winner of the first one, That red haired fire chick with the sword.

Fine fine fine. With all 10 of Ardi's suggestions though? That's quite a lot to vote on. Cant' we narrow it down any?

im in!

Number 9 is out

>And basically automatically excludes anyone with mainly male or children characters.
>If you're gonna do cheesecake again at least very it up
Like I said, homo or pedo.

I mean like 4 or 5.

With two people already in I'm half tempted to just say fuck it and try running Wacky Races. If it goes belly up we can try something else, but at least its SOMETHING.

What's your comic and entrant?

Take 8 out

Begone, brainlet with zero reading comprehension.

I'm just saying, the reason those tournaments petered out is the interest in them was artificially inflated, and it all seemed to be funneled towards pleasing contest user's desires first and foremost.

Dude, one wacky racers car was a rock and another was a tank.

They only have to be "cars" in the loosest since of the word. They could be flying saucers or magic carpets or dragons.

Pat Downe, but I'm going to invent ad hoc characters for this
the car is Ladathinka

>Petered out
Each time user tried to host them he got 4-5 entrants.

They are thus far the only tournaments that DON't peter out and die.

My characters just zoom along the ground in a sitting position because I'm old and I enjoy referencing ancient YTMND fads. The rest of the time they're riding dragons or someshit.

How many people voted in the last round of the last catfight tournament? 40? Fuck off. I don't know why you have such a hatred toward mild lewdness.

entrants being the key word. the farther along it went, the less anyone felt like doing another and another, or drawing their defeat picture
I adore lewdness, mild or otherwise. I'm just saying let's not let this one guy call all the shots, especially when he is clearly astroturfing.

Those are perfectly viable "cars."

>Clearly astroturfing
How so?

...

Knitt still owes a defeat pic.

Coward!

Attached: Knitt vs Rau.png (1196x840, 150K)

No seriously, how so?

The people haven't spoken.
The people were in the process of speaking. They hadn't finished yet. Maybe they would have spoken to do a racing thing.
The people don't speak that quickly.

Oh jesus. Why don't we just spend the rest of August debating over the topic of what the next contest theme should be so user doesn't feel marginalized?

Attached: 1559075138800.jpg (670x503, 31K)

If I can make a suggestion, the issue with making events on Yea Forums threads is that unlike discord, there are no sticky here and lots of anons could miss them. I do remember a few of them saying they wanted to participate in the tournament AFTER the event was decided.

I think hurrying it up its unnecessary. Im bad at organizing things, but if I must reccomend, id say for now we just name events, and then on the next thread, one one of the first posts we add a chart with the list of events and let everyone vote. It doesnt have to be just one chart though, we can start to eliminate events and create new charts with the remaining ones. Just 1-3 charts in total probably. Then we make an announcement on the start of ANOTHER thread. This will ensure more anons have heard about the event idea and voted for the one they want to do, and that the start is at the start of the thread.

Im probably overly complicating it though.

This is a very good idea.

This seems fair to me.

do you or anyone have any more ideas?

I feel like 2 or 3 days would suffice.

Big fanart push time! First up is Laserwing, because I waited way too long.
I love hard light blending mode so much, I want to marry it.

Attached: laserwing fanart.jpg (1280x960, 258K)

Uh, so far we got
1. Reading dialogues
2. Drawing an page of another comic story guessing/parodying
3. Fashion contest.
4. Characters dating.
5. Wacky Races

I can add,
6. Draw a painting with your characters
7. RAP BATTL- alright no.

>5. Wacky Races
And you're just drawing a "car" with the comic character? I don't really understand what's happening.

Pretty much yeah. Have you ever seen the show?

show?

Is there anything I should know if I want to do a long scrolling comic like this? Program isn't going to screw me over somehow?

Attached: 1547463081923.jpg (750x6257, 2.62M)

slight modification.

Attached: laserwing fanart.jpg (1280x960, 258K)

It shouldn't give you any trouble until you start hitting the point that it's eating up a lot of CPU to make a file that large. And if that's the case, not making it a long scrolling one won't help you any.

Slow progress this week. Looking like a 4 page update next weekend, rather than two 2 page updates as normal. A worthy finish, honestly.

Attached: CI_Ch1_Pg89.png (940x1216, 426K)

Is this any better?
How is this design, is it clear that she is a pirate?

Attached: Bonnie Test.jpg (1000x386, 41K)

She's pretty piratey. I've never seen a peg FOOT before, but that's weird now that I think of it. Those should be pretty common.
I'm not sure what's going on with that hat, but you're forgiven regardless since pirate hats are stupid hard to draw.

Bicornes are easier than Tricornes.
Pro hat tips.

>I'm not sure what's going on with that hat,
Oh, I was just playing around and I didn't know how to construct a pirate hat. I think a bandanna would do the trick, but a hat would make the silhouette easier to recognize.
What do you think of the peg knees?

yeah but they don't look as cool
and anyway this appears to be a.. monocorne
>peg knees
so THAT's what was going on there. Well if there's a form of jointed wooden legs going on, I'm all for it.

>monocorne
you mean unicorne?

>Bicornes are easier than Tricornes.
I have much to learn. I'll probably take Captain Hook's hat.

I love that pose in the bottom right. Its very animated.
I think i love the wooden knees more than regular peg legs. Gives her a little something something.

>Well if there's a form of jointed wooden legs going on,
You think it would be more memorable if it was wooden legs than just regular legs? like Pinocchio with realistic anatomy instead of blocks

But the peg leg is still good in that pose?

Yeah basically. I mean either way you gotta have knees, that's why if you lost your leg at the calf level you get a typical peg leg but you can still bend the knee.. but if you lose the whole leg, you're basically fucked and on a crutch. But some kind of pirate-tech jointed wooden leg would be neat (I would say just one)

(and I mean yeah, jointed wooden legs have always existed, but they are basically just an aesthetic improvement on a peg leg, and people found them harder to use)

How do you bros do it?
How do you cope with the nagging feeling of never being able to make something successful?
Should one just lower expectation and take it?

Attached: 1551552100863.jpg (500x404, 40K)

I want to prove to myself that I can make a comic

Attached: Young_Ging_Freecss.png (717x404, 311K)

You just live with it eventually it picks at you less and less as you keep creating. If you're coming in expecting to be an instant success off the bat then you're gonna have a bad time. Now I'm not gonna hit you with the 'you gotta create for you' cause I'm sure that's been said like 200 times. You're honestly gonna keep having the little voice going 'Man why aren't I more popular? What am I doing wrong?' cause everyone's got it. I see people with awesome work that still struggle with that feeling.

You just learn to deal, maybe vent about it to a friend once a month then keep going.

i nothing else to do. so long as its fun and i can get a few laughs then what i am doing holds value.
enjoy the small victories in life.

The prize is being A CHAMPION!

yea. i've seen very talented people who don't show up on the radar until over a decade later. maybe a bump here and there. actually, there are lots of talented people who either don't care to be seen, or just don't have the luck.
going to run with a social media example: remember artists you've come across discovering; most of them were from posts with maybe 50k+ likes, reblogs/tweets, views, or what have you. you've come across them most likely by chance, if you bothered to check out their blog or profile. maybe it was their only popular post. then you notice they have a comic - maybe you check it out, maybe you read the entire thing, maybe you end up liking and subscribing. maybe you end up supporting them monetarily. those chances sound slim, but it could be less so. it's possible to have a niche crowd of fans who you could incentivize to give money, whether it's porn or tutorials or essays or something. depending on your skills, goals, or genre.
focus on your work, keep improving your craft, see where you fit in the network if possible. i know it's painful. i'm not successful myself and some of my friends are soaring, but at least i'm steadfast and still improving. i went through difficult times and it's not until recently i've been given stability. have faith in yourself.

I've never bought upvotes, I just asked another user some questions about it.
The trick is to post about 30 minutes or an hour before SrGrafo or Mr Lovenstein or Owlturd do - they beat me every time we go head-to-head.

Attached: Swords265t.png (1050x1307, 382K)

That ain't what you said bro.

I'm happy to give any advice I can, but I can't help with that particular issue. Sorry pal.

Dramatic chess presented with no context

Attached: chess.png (831x384, 221K)

How do you write a comic about exploration and vistas?

Is this the beginning of the pawn's transformation sequence into a queen?

Attached: she is the one.gif (448x336, 1.49M)

it actually is, but [Menacing]

draw a lot of beautiful but silent panels I guess

Ha ha, lol

Wait shit that's actually a good question. Getting good at perspective, offhand. More detail?

Attached: Almonds and Elves 4.png (1375x1294, 285K)

I didn't get the joke. My bad. Re-reading it, that was actually pretty funny.

I have a question. What if you can't draw cars but want to participate? Is that an automatic DQ?

You've NEVER heard of Wacky Races?

>Is that an automatic DQ?
It's for fun. Drawing a better shitmobile is just a bonus

>Wacky Races
Is this an european thing?

Who's "in" so far?

To keep suspense in one scene I'm writing dialogue with double meaning, but it sounds super rapey and while I don't have a problem with it, I'm afraid the audience might.
What do? I kinda really like how the scene is going but I'm worried about the PC police or being called a stereotypical male writer.

Attached: 1336115166937.png (471x513, 294K)

Remember, if it's a woman harassing man it's okay.
Everything else of the table.

it is a middle-age man that is NOT harrassing a teenage girl, but it sounds like it until the last line. I want to make the guy feel gross.

So like in Simpsons? youtube.com/watch?v=m-vuVjiF8Jk

just post it

nah, this is for drama
it's kinda long, but the gist is
>teenage protagonist in balcony with a rich middle-aged guy
>while giving her vodka, guy implies her mom told her about her special talents, and that she send her to do him a favor
>girl says she doesn't want to remember last time she did something like that when she was younger
>guy insists her mom told him she saw in her eyes how much she liked it
>they're talking about assassination

Oooh, that's really nice, thank you. Speaking of girl posses, I really should finish this drawing...

Attached: 2019MAY23_catfight_base_coloring.jpg (1200x973, 201K)

>those brown girl's feet

Attached: 1 rising.gif (455x364, 21K)

I prefer just drawing comic characters in a car, I have no idea how this contest/race should be expressed.

I just realize I draw Rococo with two right feet, I need sleep.

Worst fetish

Do you have overarching themes or morals in your comic? Do you even think about deeper meaning?

New Tom N Artie Tales page!

tapas.io/episode/1450853

Next friday's is the last one before I go on a short hiatus. All the planning for SVCC hasn't given me enough time to get the next story ready. It's already written so I just need to get the artist drawing it. At most it'll be a few weeks before next story starts up.

Attached: TNA Mini 5 Letters Page 12-01 TAPAS.png (790x1200, 1.47M)

I have several stories It features: an angel and a demon fighting for a human lady`s attention, a guardian angel not getting along with the person shes protecting, and a woman being haunted by a ghost
All or do it a different art style. I want to complete them in that order, but in the end they all connect. Is that a bad idea, should I release them as separate comics?

Attached: dottiephoenix.png (945x1626, 253K)

>Do you even think about deeper meaning?
Hell no. Every time I read or watch something where there is an insistence on some moral to teach or deeper meaning like that the whole story becomes forced and dull.
Sure, people can find meanings in anything but I'd rather of something shallow and enjoyable over something preachy.

nah. there are dark themes but most of it is just dumb fun

I love this one so much. You should work with this macleod guy again

That's called a joke
if you're feeling uncomfortable with misleading the audience, you're in the wrong business.

Mine's literally one giant series of fascist propaganda.

crossed legs always mess with me.

If they're connected, they should at least have similar styles. but they can still be distinct.

>Do you have overarching themes or morals in your comic?
There is nothing more important to me in my comic than it’s thematic ambitions.

>Do you think about deeper meaning?
Probably WAY more than I should for my first ever comic.

Yes, it's a long mild political story which boils down to morals between good and evil.

I tackle whatever I can fit into my story. There's a certain take on Space Operas I have yet to deal with.

Maybe.

tapas.io/episode/1480154

This is why nothing in the modern age has any longevity. People want their entertainment to be a bag of potato chips: No substance, instant gratification that immediately wears off and has no lasting meaning or impact on you.

Yes, for sure. Although I tend to try to avoid giving direct answers towards moral questions presented, I think its preachy and I prefer to left readers to decide. But themes indeed.

On another hand, I feel like starting a story based on theme is pointless and will make it forced. You have to create something entertaining first, then look for themes. Which is actually quite easy since the things we create are made based on our ideas and in our ideas there are a lot of themes regarding things wandering in our minds.

Attached: imagine i didnt forgot his third eye, its just closed.png (1600x1200, 1008K)

yeah but people lost interest in meaningful things first, because they were done so clumsily

Attached: 1469861332349.jpg (1280x720, 314K)

this. no one is attacking "meaning" or "themes", but virtue signaling, ideological propaganda, and other similar excuses are inarticulate attempts to make a work seem deep, and people pick up on that.

Those too, but I think it started with throwaway tacked-on morals with no substance.
Which in turn, I think, started with people denigrating entertainment and insisting everything has to be enriching and educational somehow

right! its subversive, morality and education becomes entertainment, but they're purveyed in too low of resolution! so either A that creates a dogma of superficial virtues that replaces true ethical thought in public eye or B entertainment as a whole becomes vilified for being an engine of destruction on the conceptual structures it attempts to integrate. all these things could and should exist in pure states but become muddied by poor attempts to merge them

And at the same time, anytime an overlap is practical, it should be embraced
As Mister Rogers said, playing is how you learn.

Fuck you.

The major reason why some movies, books, etc are remembered decades, or even centuries (in the case of books) is because their themes were timeless, or broad enough to appeal to or apply to people in a general enough way that it doesn't matter what year it is; people will be able to relate to it regardless of if they're reading/watching it now, twenty years ago, or twenty years in the future.

The reason why everything sucks now is because people don't even try. Nevermind picking the low-hanging fruit, they're straight-up picking the the rotten, worm-infested garbage off the ground.

So much shit these days is nothing more that whatever the topical political drama is that day, or whatever is trending on Tumblr and Twitter, or at the bare minimum, dumb reddit memes, that are already out of date a few months after they come out, if not already dated by the time they release.

That's not depth, meaning, or themes, though. That's just latching on to temporary bullshit and something that heavily dates itself immediately like I said above.

This is why people hate movies and comics and shit today because it is surface level garbage with no depth, or thought.

>tfw Sonichu is more well-known than your webcomic

>The reason why everything sucks now is because people don't even try
that's what I was saying. What did you think I meant by how meaningful shit was done clumsily?
the superficial theme of meaning was there, but the effort wasn't. nor was understanding or competence

Do you ever felt like after initial success and learning something new you suddenly do a step back and nothing works for you?

He sent me a few more scripts, its definitely happening.

i actually fo have an overarching theme planned believe it or not. the five man band each has their own baggage that they have to face. the theme is primarily about accepting responsibility.
it does this by playing with the idea of leadership. Tad has a phobia of leadership and responsibility manifesting as "being the head".
it also plays with this via the combining mecha, given that most of the time, no one gives a shit about limbs. people only care about the heads. i cant name all the members of Menasor, but i know Motormaster is the head. the point is that the limbs can be heroic and just as important.
"stepping up" is not a deep theme by any means, but it provides a hero's journey for a very unheroic character. that and i dont want to browbeat anyone with deep meaning. i want people to laugh.

Happens sometimes yeah
Helll yes. Swords Comic is already pretty great, but once in a while it feels like you had to stretch a little too hard for an idea, so writing collaboration is just what the dagger ordered.

>playing is how you learn
What does this even mean

Exploring ideas, running through them in your head, solidifying them via some manner of activity... Particularly for kids, that's how learning works. Your brain is a lot more receptive in that mode than it is forced into a seat facing forwards.

Waste yesterday setting up a stream and doodling, get food poisoning today.

Don't do as I have done. Make a comic. Keep the webcomic gods happy

I TOLD you chicken tartare wasn't a good idea.

is it possible to make a decent webcomic if you have autism?

probably easier that way

Is autism even real?
I mean like the Rain Man guys are real, but arent slightly awkward people just the result of not being spanked?

well I figured that autistic people have a hard time with social skills and understanding people, which might affect how they write characters

don't know but it sure as hell has given me the dedication

i recommend Schizoid personslity disorder.
unlimited creativity at the cost of being a shut in with no desire to socialize.
its just like autism, but with self awareness. its like autism with cool sunglasses.

new Fire Squad pages are up. tapas.io/episode/1480357

Wait, so that's what I have?

Well how do you like that, I've been studying mental disorders and medical shit my whole life and somehow never traipsed across the one I match perfectly

and of course there's no treatment. awesome. can I have free money?

Getting such a fun feeling from these people.

thanks! the boy scout guy is new this week.

only thing to do with it is use it to your advantage.
writing for nobody gote through the hard times. this webcomic is helping me now.

they say therapy helps, but that is actually sensible and proactive, so why would i ever do that?

>mfw

I got in some good time trying and failing to draw like Glen Keane. He's got cuteness figured out so if I'm going to copy someone it may as well be him. It's either that or go full weeb

Attached: we have to go back.gif (412x255, 985K)

aw he does draw cutely.

Finally started this

Pic related is my first entirely digital page. Im not proud, but given that its my first try and cps coloring sucks to me still I dont completely hate it either.

Attached: 4.png (918x1263, 1.32M)

Well, count me in on the race too.

Great job, clipstudio isn't all that clear on how its coloring works. If you need help with anything specific, just ask.

And who are you?

Who is Glen Keane?

I doubt it, the dialogue and interactions between characters is probably too odd for people to find enjoyable.

The guy that draws Family Circus, right?
Wait, that's Bil Keane. who's Glen Keane?

I love the webcomic Hamsters City, the oddness only makes it better

oh, Disney Renaissance style.

no sir

First page of chapter two.
Maskless Tad has a different energy.

Also, give an F for Generi-Ranger Green.

Something tells me you've had that joke prepared for a while

since day one.

what if I don't give a fuck?

on the fence with this one. I made several attempts on the poses, but homeboy on the right seems pretty action-figured
i don't think im quite satisfied with the background either.
any ideas fellas? what would you change?

Attached: ch2_pg07.jpg (953x1345, 1.16M)

are the textures supposed to make me feel panicky?

i would say so. its suppose to convey that the world around them is being distorted, which is often an epiphenomenal symptom of panic.

Is there dialogue for this scene?

>What's a subject or topic you've never seen done in webcomics, and would love to tackle?

I actually would like someone to properly handle AGI. I've never seen anyone do it, and I am trying to give it a go but I've not been happy with any of the outcomes yet.

not on that page, but there is dialogue between the characters in this chapter.
this is the previous page (don't worry, it makes exactly the same amount of sense if you read it backwards as it does when read in the right order)

Attached: ch2_pg06fin.jpg (953x1345, 502K)

Aaaaahhhh, stop posting art in a style I like.

What about the page after? I am trying to get a handle on precisely what is happening. I understand she is grabbing him, but what is the end goal? I am imagining some sort of situation where she pulls her through a kind of portal or door in this distorted couple of pages.

the whole scene is that the guy in the hat walks in, and orders some food, then tries to walk off without paying. the clerk tries to stop him, but the hat guy grabs him and pulls him through the wall and out into the streets
but i haven't drawn further than page 7 yet, but i have the next couple chapters written

Ehhh it still works, he looks like he's being pulled and resiting, he's just in the absolute first moments of being pulled, while I'm sure you were hoping for a more dramatic look of being tugged forward
Basically all this does 'wrong', if anything, is indicates that dude is a lot heavier and is going to be a little more effort to budge.

Might think about adding some action lines behind the guy on the right then. That way we can get a feel for him really being tugged forward. As opposed to just an awkward looking, aggressive handshake.

Change the folds so it looks like his elbow is here (and rotate his hand so most of the thumb is obscured) or depending on the context change his whole pose so it looks like most of his weight is leaning away form the figure, and still being drawn forward regardless

AGI?

Artificial General Intelligence. There is a pretty heady book on the topic that came out a few years ago called Superintelligence written by Nick Bostrom. It's... difficult to properly explain. If you Google the term you'll probably come up with some preconceived notion of just what this means, but I promise you that it's wrong.

The closest that I've found is actually the introduction from the book itself, and even that requires an analogy in the form of a fable in order to be truncated.

youtube.com/watch?v=7rRJ9Ep1Wzs

I was so smitten by this concept that I actually contacted Bostrom and asked if I could use this fable as part of a comic at some point, and he said sure. I was very much surprised.

Bake a bread

Tell us about your go.

Sure.

So there is a theory out there by Sir Roger Penrose about background radiation and dark matter potentially being the remnants of previous universes. So I had this idea to adopt this theory but utilize the pinpointed spots of this phenomena in space actually being a sort of universal Von Neuman machine while also satisfying the law of thermodynamics about information not being possible to destroy.

Anyway, long story short. I had this idea that a universal Superintelligence would propagate itself endlessly over and over again even through the destruction of the universe by way of a sufficiently intelligent species recording the information from these data points. Which an AGI would recognize as being an algorithm and would naturally probe exactly what its intended effect was. This would automatically kickstart a fast take off scenario and create the Superintelligence out of the AGI.

Or something like that. I am still playing with the idea.
