Hello, Storyteller.

So that Flash art poster made me realize that Jenni hasn't appeared in any of the Legion promo material.

Now, look, I don't normally like to go there, because bigots are annoying sods who never shut the fuck up, but it is a bit hard to deny that Bendis likes black girls. Given that, it is a bit conspicuous that Jenni, Dannielle, and Jazmine haven't been shown. Like, you'd think, right?

Stupid Cali kids dunno what good weather is, it's hardly cold when it's really snowing.
She might be the legionnaire with a
Pink mohawk.

it does, I agree, speak to a fundamental desire to take The Original Material and reshape it rather than embrace some of the second gen takes that were genuine quality on their own and diverse as well

Attached: Gen13_v1_61_02.jpg (1024x1602, 457K)

these scans make the small lettering hard to read

What are you playing Cranky? Three houses?
I've started Yakuza Kiwami, and am thinking about just ploughing through it fast.
Kiwami 2 seems to be much more fleshed out (like 0)

>it's a "writer wants to make their mark" episode
Yeah, cause that always goes so well. And see, I definitely get that, wanting to put your own spin on an IP, but one needs to recognize that the IP does not belong to you, and there are loyal fans to consider.

>She might be the legionnaire with a Pink mohawk.
I hope not, cause that might be the worst possible XS design.

Attached: Gen13_v1_61_05.jpg (1024x1590, 362K)

yes please resurrect robo waifu

I mean, sometimes fanbases are encrusted etc., but I'm afraid we're going to get the typical Bendis wherein he illustrates very clearly what 3-4 stories he's read and models everything on, not a broadly read synthesis OR something from a naif going genuinely blind

Attached: Gen13_v1_61_06.jpg (1024x1590, 423K)

That's what gives me such a sour taste about this, it feels more like Bendis just making a movie/TV pitch so he can take credit for the inevitable media adaptations, like he did with several other books.
It feels less like "here's what I think would make this better" and more like "here's what I think would make this easily digestible for mass audiences".

I honestly think it would've been better if Bendis had just made his Legion the originals successors. Jon is Superman's son,so it would've fit.

based, skipping the debates to read this and listen to 311

that too

FUCK THE DEBATES

Attached: Gen13_v1_61_07.jpg (1024x1619, 449K)

this is a different letterer than the the original run right?

I would have done a book that was Jon and both the kids of some of the originals and a bevy of new characters, and then a book that was more fan-targeted with the retroboot Legion.

GO BURNOUT!!!!!

Attached: Gen13_v1_61_08.jpg (1024x1579, 342K)

if/when they bring back gen13 I hope they don't change them at all

Nah, not really interested in Fire Emblem, to be honest. Strategy games just ain't my bag.

Started playing a bit of Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. It's alright so far, though I feel it's hard for me to enjoy because I don't know enough about mental health studies. The devs clearly know what they're talking about, but I don't.

That's a depressingly common scenario, rehashes of the famous stories as opposed to new ones. Like, if we wanted to read those old stories, we'd just go and read them, not waste time with a less interesting version of them.

Calling it know, Great Darkness Saga, Sun-Eater/Fatal Five, and either Computo and/or Omega.

I keep meaning to get Hellblade when it gets cheap enough and then I stare at my own backlog

Finally did some srs reading today on my day off

Attached: Gen13_v1_61_09.jpg (1024x1588, 356K)

I think user who commented about Grunge being one of the least stereotypical Asian characters in comics was absolutely right. He's a broad type Asian dudes don't usually get to be.

Percival Edward Chang, chest tattoo dudebro, bless his heart

She's exactly the kind of girl who's stumbles into a punk concert and wake up three days later with that hair and somebody's phone number scribbled on her tush.

don't forget the early rehashes, like the destruction of Trom

>Finally did some srs reading today on my day off
Do tell. Is it that fantasy series you mention sometimes, Keycranth?

Yeah, it's one of the ways this series is surprisingly, progressive I guess, for its time.

real representation the series

some non-fiction, actually

Attached: Gen13_v1_61_14.jpg (1024x1603, 435K)

Hey OP. California knows how to party.

Ya can't say that Jim Lee wasn't great about wanting good and meaningful representation in his line

Roxy should play Barbarella in the remake!

Yeeeeee we doo

To be fair, that's the entire crux of Jan's backstory, so it's kind of unavoidable.

>Gosh darn it!
>ninnies
Caitlin, pls.

I barely believe in California

Attached: Gen13_v1_61_15.jpg (1024x1600, 427K)

>Given that, it is a bit conspicuous that Jenni, Dannielle, and Jazmine haven't been shown.

Somebody else created them. Bendis is too selfish to share credit on any young black girl (aside from maybe Ayla because "Fuck gingers" apparently)

Pink Mohawk has been bugging me cause she looks super familiar. XS is classic XS in that Porter Flash Family spread that I assume is from Year One. She might be like Flash Family embargoed

It’ll be Computo, that first year leading up to Great Darkness is one of the periods he’s been saying is his fave.

But Legion reboots by their nature have a bit of a problem with retelling. All I want is black Ferro Lad

Taking something from somebody else will always have more "woke" value than anything original.

Attached: Gen13_v1_61_16.jpg (1024x1602, 395K)

>Legion reboots by their nature have a bit of a problem with retelling
ding ding ding

Attached: Gen13_v1_61_17.jpg (1024x1586, 416K)

YESSSSS

Attached: Gen13_v1_61_18.jpg (1024x1568, 343K)

lol

Three Houses provides the lols.

I am not Cranky, but I think I'd pick it up if I ever grab a Switch.

Attached: ymsi55q3lfd31.png (1080x1082, 398K)

I get that comics are just plain not profitable, but the sheer blatant grasping for royalties from a lot of writers is pathetic.

>Ayla
They really could avoid this if they just let the characters retain their original hair color. It's not common, but black redheads do happen. And in this case, it's not only the future, but a different planet and evolutionary path. Come on now.

>All I want is black Ferro Lad
They don't have the balls to coward out of that. But they are stupid enough.

Agreed. Robo Maidu rebuilt the house, because she's great and Adam Warren is SO down with a sexy robot maid.

Attached: Gen13_v1_61_19.jpg (1024x1573, 408K)

he's, like, the best kind of weeb, isn't he

For You Kids: youtube.com/watch?v=FdizL4on-Rc

Attached: Gen13_v1_61_22.jpg (1024x1594, 416K)

If Nintendo made a version of Three Houses without the player character and romance mechanic bullshit I would definitely play it because the story and characters actually sound good for once.
I do realize this would basically only appeal to me.

Second Generation Legion is something they really need to consider. Age up Graym and Garridan (as Kid Validus) and give them a bunch of friends to save the universe with!

I still think that Seth Meyers art was earlier in the planning. The actual covers have white Ranzzs, Rokk in the right colors, etc

I wanna know who the monkey/animal looking person is

I do have a mild conspiracy theory this is a Legion generation 2 bc of Bendis saying 32nd century

Black Ferro Lad is just a way better idea than black Garth/Ayla. Raceswapping characters who aren't even human is dumb and another example of Bendis really not understanding representation outside of the most surface level idea.

But I guess they had to make one of the big three black because in movies/TV they would obviously want to make one of the leads black.

>LL Cool J
Now there's a name I haven't heard in a long time

It’s admirable

>Debates

Pfft. They really need to do a straight knock out tournament and pare that shit down to something sane.

The Legion having to deal with the next generation of teenage characters and facing the reality of being Dad Superheroes would be a legit interesting idea and one I have zero faith in Bendis being able to pull off in any way, so I'd rather not under current circumstances.

He really has been naked about how much some of his shit is Hollywood pitches after Millar started to get bank, hasn't he?

I am always delighted by such genuine cross-cultural appreciation, which is some of why I also love Panty and Stocking, it's a love-letter to US animation

Attached: Gen13_v1_61_23lp.jpg (1024x1593, 484K)

I'll give Millar credit, he's nice enough to put a Netflix logo on his comics, the perfect reading turn-off for me.

everyone is trying for become the next Kirkman or Millar because they can’t be Miller or Moore

There is, however, his martial arts jackassery. I'm sure there's gotta nbe at least a few mall ninja Asians in media.

I love that Caitlyn is no selling both the heat and the cold.

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 00.jpg (1024x1567, 586K)

They could give the adult book to Lemire (though I know many here have no faith in him).
My conspiracy theory is that DC has been doing an apology tour for Lemire because of giving Bendis LOSH, which is why he's gotten a Black Hammer/JLA crossover, a Question book with Cowan himself, a collab with FUCKING GIFFEN, and a Joker OGN for that easy Joker money.

No, Winathians ARE human, but they're humans from a different planet, so they developed in weird ways.

>Panty and Stocking
Isn't the entire first episode of that all about toilet humor?

Yes.

It's so great.

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 01.jpg (1024x1667, 665K)

Crazy how DC and Dark horse are putting so much faith in all of Lemire’s stuff

I'm really mad at myself becuase I checked my log and I've only finished 8 books this year.

And I bought like four more two weeks ago becuase I fucking suck.

>Joker OGN for that easy Joker money.
My own theory is that specific one might just be Lemire doing it more for Sorrentino, just cause from what I've read on it Sorrentino sounds so much more excited and passionate about that project than Lemire.

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 02.jpg (1024x1630, 603K)

Why do people like Sorrentino who is just Deodota with better aesthetic

the novelty has definitely worn off

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 03.jpg (1024x1610, 603K)

Lemire not getting the Legion goes back goes back to Doomsday Clock tho. Does Bendis still get it if that comes out on time?

Also in a light defense trying to use comics as a springboard to movies goes back to Stan

I know this feel and I hate it

they both use way too many fucking panels and it hurts my eyes

>XS is classic XS in that Porter Flash Family spread that I assume is from Year One

That feels like a non canon poster.

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 04.jpg (1024x1537, 471K)

>Does Bendis still get it if that comes out on time?
Unless Johns was gonna do it himself, I would bet yes.

Okay, so Caitlyn is an obvious Paladin, but what classes would everyone else be?

...this is more legitimately written than, like, 95% of the "comics for ladies" I've been recced the past few years

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 05.jpg (1024x1597, 620K)

I bought a single book nearly a year ago and haven't gotten past the first few pages. I'm really bad at reading actual books

no comment needed

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 06.jpg (1024x1580, 648K)

I think its because his layouts are usually more interesting than Deodato's, even though he has like 2 faces and facial expressions total for men.

My hot take from the bad art thread a few days ago was that Jackson/Butch Guice is just a better version of Greg Land.
The main difference is that Guice got Marvel sued in the 1990s for tracing/heavily,heavily referencing a country star, so he doesn't use obvious celebrities anymore.

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 07.jpg (1024x1584, 633K)

CUTE!

See they're smart therefore they're not objectified, right?

Unironically, yes.

Gen 13 is always like that.
A surprisingly smart book that ended up being a very sharp look at life in the early 90’s and 90’s comic books without meaning to, but you know...the artists also liked to draw tiddies so you sort of forget that part.

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 08.jpg (1014x1551, 765K)

What the fuck.

one of the better pages in comic history

The artist being self-aware.
I have a disgusting number of friends like her at this exact moment and they won’t stop bitching to me about it.

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 09.jpg (1024x1588, 579K)

Okay, seriously Roxy, this is starting to get uncomfortable. Just fucking dump him already.

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 10.jpg (1024x1560, 543K)

tell me about it

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 11.jpg (1024x1547, 484K)

That's a very reductionist view on his work, so not worth discussing.

Dad Superheroes are always going to be sabotaged by corporate. Always.

See Jon getting the Soap Opera Aging Bus.

Whiny girlchilren who see their problem and identify the problem and whine (specifically to me) about the problem yet do not actually do anything to change their behavior.
I frankly wouldn’t give a fuck if a bunch of kids fucked over their lives with shitty romantic entanglements because that’s what EVERYONE does, but I’m kinda tired of hearing them cry about it to me when I’m not particularly interested in hearing it.

How, u seem defensive

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 12.jpg (1024x1596, 625K)

Lemire doing a kinda downer intergenerational Legion would actually tick some boxes of his "stuff Jeff Lemire is good at writing" list.

Calm down, guy

Superman was already a Dad Superhero even before getting an actual kid, the Legion had a different mojo going on, especially since they're always rebooted back into teenagers.

>See Jon getting the Soap Opera Aging Bus.
Was that corporate or Bendis though? While I do think corporate would have eventually demanded something of that line, I dont think it would have happened so soon

>eat a huge meal
>don't eat for a whole day
This comic finds the weirdest and most insipid ways of being fucking real.

>defend someone's work
>"you seem defensive"
Okay?

Why is this goofy theme burger chain not real?

Why doesn’t Parker writer the LoSH

He asked, I answered.
In some ways that’s harder to do then being real in the big ways. Except I think they usually do it on accident.

>don’t actually defend it but just shrugs off opinion

Editorial seems to just not care about Parker at all

I don’t think DC would let you do a Sad Dad Legion without Tom King desu

because no one wants to give him big stuff

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 13.jpg (1024x1594, 541K)

Thompson just got fired, didn't he?

where's my Sad Mom book, huh

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 14.jpg (1024x1583, 657K)

Because Best Case Scenarios never happen.

We should always remember he might not want it!

Glad he got a backup in Agents of atlas, felt strange without him

Because Parker's name just isn't a significant draw

Man that would be a good idea for a depressing take on Donna Troy

DC would need to hire some female writers for once

I think there's probably a market for "feminist intellectual debates in kingerie" on the internet.

it would, but I have no idea who I'd hire for it off the top of my head

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 15.jpg (1024x1582, 530K)

It’s a shame, he’s like the most fun superhero writer

That backup's already gone

so, I know I'm running the risk of unleashing a tidal wave of shitposting here, but: why do people get so insanely het up about star wars shipping specifically Reylo. I mean, I know normal fandom bullshit, but this one is so much more taking! it! personally! than most.

he has both Fun and Skills, too

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 16.jpg (1024x1563, 586K)

Who would be the token suicidal case in King Legion?

I don't want them to be Sad Dads though, some of them would be bummed about the idea of becoming uncool, like Dirk, but the tone wouldn't be depressing awardbait.

Jan

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 17.jpg (1024x1572, 590K)

Damn, I just checked and literally only 4 of their mainline books were written by women this month

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 18.jpg (1024x1587, 555K)

Roxy, what happened to your doctor? Yeah, he thought you were a Fitz, but he, importantly, WASN'T GRUNGE.

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 19.jpg (1024x1573, 464K)

What's Marvel's roster looking like these days? Definitely better than 4.
It's not surprising due to DC's constant misogynistic history. Women have never thrived there.

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 20.jpg (1024x1590, 504K)

There's also a market on the internet for THIS, currently filled largely by Korean girls.

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 21.jpg (1024x1589, 587K)

Maternal themes are SJW propaganda.

In all seriousness, there is a noticeable lack of interest in moms in fiction. Various societal factors such as the limited perceptions of mother figures leading them to end up as shallower characters compared to fathers, and the idea that anyone who has anything but a perfect fairytale relationship with their mother is a pathetic loser leads to said nonsensical portrayals.

There's also the fact that mothers are often judged far more harshly that fathers for their shortcomings as parents. Indeed, just look at how much shit Donna gets for that entire situation, even though it was Terry who got super pissy that Donna chose to continue her hero work.

They have no good heroines, so no wonder no women want to work for them

thanks for reading

should be back TOMORROW

Attached: Gen 13 v1 062 - 22.jpg (1024x1593, 640K)

it’s really weird how no feminist or anything calls out DC but routinely shits on Marvel

Thanks op it’s been a fun distraction

For one thing Kelly Thompson is always writing like ten books.
Also a lot of the women hired by DC in the past few years have since left, unfortunately. The roster feels like a boys' club right now and everyone not in that club gets pushed out.

Still waiting on a Wonder Mom story, though I'll wait for the right writer for that desu I would really want Jimenez to do it, I would even give KSD a chance though

Marvel consistently has more spotlight especially out of the industry because of the movies, and honestly I think most people who for a long time have just automatically always assumed DC is shit no matter what.

Thanks for posting as always, Storyteller.

So is it fair to say that Gen-13 manages a consistent quality through multiple writers due to stronger editorial practices? Cause Wildstorm as a whole was Jim Lee's baby until he lost his way.

>what is women in refrigerators?
No one calls them out these days because they're a lost cause.
No actual progressive is reading their shite

Reylo is hilarious to me becuase Kylo is such a goddamn pathetic poser, and he makes anything ridiculous.

Also, Last Jedi was a total train wreck that killed my interest in this trilogy harder than anything the prequels ever did.

>Still waiting on a Wonder Mom story
Seriously, Lyta is right there sitting in limbo, waiting to make that happen. Diana being a parent would be really interesting.

Also, fuck it, I'm going there. I find to be quite a big 'ol heap of bullshit that Clark and Bruce get to have a kid, but Diana doesn't get to explore that new horizon. I won't go so far as to say it's necessarily sexist, but it is some bullshit.

just a strong property that everyone besides Claremont tried really hard to do something fun with

I don't even know how Reylo even became a thing. Kylo is like a superpowered toddler having a tantrum. He wouldn't work in any romance.

Thanks for running. I loved that issue, and Grunge must pay for givig Roxy an eating disorder.

Just checked and it's around 13. Completely blows DC out of the water.

Meant for

Women write about comics writers always bitch about Marvel and CB so hard

I'm sure at least a part of it is that Diana is a little less cemented as a character in the popular consciousness and you don't have the "what do we do with [character]?" predicament that Batman and Superman have
But come on cranky we both know that Diana's virginity has been an issue for a long time now, and just how pregnant women are seen in general. I'm thankful that Diana is at least allowed to plow Steve now but we're a long way from a place where a pregnant Diana won't cause a debacle with conservative One Million Moms assholes and incel weirdos.

Are people even paying attention to DC these days though?

Also IDK why I jumped straight to the pregnancy issue when you didn't mention that. Still her being a mom at all would make her instantly undesirable as a woman because of sexist horseshit.

I don't know if that's editorial or just strong basic characterization and a general zeitgwist in comics that hadn't embraced every writer having to burn everything to the ground every time a new team came on.

If he had said "IT'S NOT A PHASE, DAD!" When he stabbed Han it would have been 100% in character.
He's an edgy Hot Topic teen cosplaying as his Nazi Grandpa.

no one gives a shit about that company

Based

>we're a long way from a place where a pregnant Diana won't cause a debacle with conservative One Million Moms assholes and incel weirdos.
Fuck em. No seriously, they can all suck a lemon if they're gonna throw a hissy fit about a character they don't actually care about making forward progress. Not my problem these simpering troglodytes have nothing better to do than try and force they repugnant "values" on everything around them, nor that Didio is an incompetent retard.

Diana has been around just short of 80 years, she deserves to have something interesting going for her, dammit. But no, not allowed to have her lead the Amazons in their mission of world peace, not allowed to have her own All Star book, not allowed to have her own movie until two years ago, not allowed to have her own cartoon, not allowed to have her own fucking rogues gallery show up regularly, not even allowed to explore her own central themes of truth, love, and finding ways to trust people. At least let her have her daughter from Earth-2, for fucks sake.

Also, I'd be fine with Lyta being a clay baby. It would be thematically appropriate.

It's sad that you care so much about a one-note fetish character who only appeals to pubscent boys.
WB with all their money even tried to make her a UN ambassador, and the REAL women rejected her for setting heroines back decades.

Lyta may be too irrecoverably tied to Sandman now for that to happen.

epic

I think Reylo is a thing where people are like “you have to ship wholesome ships” policing. And probably something with Force Awakens shipping being more OT3 with her/Finn/Poe and the Last Jedi turned up her and Kylo. (I love Reylo after watching TLJ and was hating it after TFA fwiw)

I’ve def seen some “it’s racist that reylo gets more attention that Rey/Finn or Rey/Poe or Finn/Poe” takes.

And some people are just crazy

Nonsense. Also, fuck Sandman.

The UN is a borderline useless entity that only remains extant due to the very few bits of humanitarian work they barely manage to squeeze out in between being a glorified chatroom and utterly failing to provide anything vaguely resembling unity between its member nations. Fuck the UN, and fuck the delusional retards who used a superhero costume showing off legs to shit all over a positive feel good publicity stunt. Also, fuck you for being an annoying cunt.

I think you're right that it's the first, how to put it, problematic juggernaut that's taken off in the current mood of wholesome judgyness--which has always been an undercurrent in fandom but really has exploded the past few years.

all of this is right

Typical DCshit silencing women's voices.

God I fucking love this comic
Thanks for introducing me to it Storyteller. As usual I love you.

>He's an edgy Hot Topic teen cosplaying as his Nazi Grandpa
Worse, a grown ass man acting like an edgy hot topic teen cosplaying as his basic grandpa.
