Seeing as the Battle Bird Armada where from the Game Gear days, they along with Wendy Witchcart and her cronies, The Hooligans, Honey and Mighty & Ray are not allowed in the IDW comics, due to SEGA imparting their gay-ass "Two Worlds" rule that keeps Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic apart.
Once again showing why Archie Sonic (and STC for the britbongs) so based: It wasn't a cheap celebration of SEGA's current Sonic games, it was a celebration of the entire franchise from games to cartoons.

They realized they had lost LOTS of paperwork. The interviews are vague, so it might've been that an old employee "lost" things in purpose out of malice, or it might've been pure incompetence. Doesn't matter, either way Archie realized they'd lost SOOO many contracts.
This was when Sabrina the Teenage witch was on the air, and was their main cashcow. They didn't have the contract saying they owned Sabrina. That's holy-shit bad for the company.
SO they threw together new contracts and went "standard procedures, ha ha ha, everyone just sign these new updated contracts, no biggy, don't ask why, ha ha ha" and hoped Sabrina's co-creator wouldn't ask why. Well he didn't fall for it.
Meanwhile, because the ONLY one of those contracts they REALLY cared about was the Sabrina one, they HALF-ASSED all the others.
So not only did they lose Ken's contract, they had a chance to get him to sign a new one, at a time when he probably would've been pretty willing, but because they weren't paying attention they didn't see him not signing in the right places. And then they stored the NEW contract poorly, so when shit finally went to court all they had was a fucking photocopy of it.
Just... incompetence on top of fucking incompetence, fucking Chernobyl-style.
