There's really nothing tragic about a wage slave quitting their slave job to join some outcast gay space hippie commune and live in a barn like a carefree hobo. She had a little meltdown about it at first but generally felt a lot more fulfilled after she told her boss to clod herself. Wish it were me.
Unless you interpret her as a super autist. Than the change of pace and loss of daily routine was probably a mindfuck like when they changed the colour of sonic's arms.

was the mirror thing really as bad as we think it was? a lot of people have theorized that gems percieve time differently than humans since their so long lived. gems have grounded steven from tv for "1,000 years" before, and the diamonds are still in mouring after 5,000 years. gems seem to perceive time as going much faster than humans do, which would make since, since their immortal and dont die. when we take those things into account, lapis's being stuck in a mirror for 5,000 years hardly seems that bad. closest thing for a human would be throwing someone in solitary confinement for a week or two, not a pleasent experience, but hardly the worst thing in the world. also pic related, pretty fucked what happens to him.

To be fair, there's smidgens of evidence that she knew she fucked up and died with the regret of not being able to fix anything. We know she constantly tried to heal the corrupted gems but could never succeed.

I ask that myself too. The show kinda downplayed it if she actually consciously experienced it. It's implied but never really stated, especially seeing how quickly, without any (on-screen) development she seemed to have dealt with it. Thats why pic related or even Earthbound's Porky and his eternal capsule hit me way more. They should have invested some time to actually show how Lapis looks at the same fucking star constellations for millenia and trying not to lose it.

This... isn't true though. She never necessarily "evaded responsibility" (at least when with the CGs) and had done *everything* to make up for her dimwitted mistakes, possibly killing herself due to not being able to fix them. She had nothing to do with the horrific gem experiments/cluster though, that was all Yellow and Blue.

The point is though that her life is ridiculously and horrifically tragic. Everything she did as Rose is basically a manifest of mental trauma brought on by a horrific and abusive home life; finally following her heart and trying to free at least some gems from the shackles of Homeworld and White in any way she can (the way she went about it was dimwitted, but it was caused by said abusive home (stuff like wanting to escape identity, shittalking your previous self)).

To put it into context:

>Be born small and "wrong" by homeworld standards; essentially an off color right out of the gate
>Have an abusive parental figure that despises you for being wrong
>See other gems as your equal, and attempt to befriend them (as a diamond)
>Homeworld thinks this is "out of line" in their standards; harshly punished any time she tries to interact in a friendly way to other """lower""" gems
>Have organics you've come to love killed in front of you due to them being "disgusting"
>start being thrown in a dark tower for god knows how long for acting "out of line" in any situation, only let out when you've "learned your lesson"
>a strong want to prove yourself as a diamond due to harsh expectations brought on by the higher 3
>get colony
>fall in love with colony and realize how terrible gem production is, and the effects its had on the planet
>attempt to completely halt production of colony; the 3 diamonds never take her seriously and think of this as one of her "games"
>forced to continue
>starts an uprising under the guise of Rose for the sole purpose of freeing the planet (1/2)

or illidan stormrage from warcraft. he was locked in a cell for 10,000 years, and in the game im pretty sure they make a point on how hes a bit more out of touch than he was when he was first locked up. we didnt really get any of that with lapis, she adjusts almost immediatly after getting out.

Don't forget that Pearl found the mirror soon after the war and kept it inside her gem.

Scientifically, it's most likely the gems perceive time faster. For example, dogs (life expectancy of about 14 years) see time so slowly that it looks like TVs are constantly flickering on and off.

Thanks for the insight, my biggest gripe with this character is that "outing" herself as Pink during the final battle could have (potentially) prevented that big ass destruction beam, since it was heavily implied to come from a point where the other diamonds wanted to avenge Pinks "death". Just look at how personally pissed Yellow was at planet Earth. Still as you put it, it might be motivated by PInk realizing that as Pink she was not making a difference anyway, so with Rose she was putting everything on one card and lost the wager big time. (Even though it would have also been interesting and a powerful message if she declared war openly as Pink)

They'd see it as more Diamond rule, and it's very unfortunate but I can't really blame them.
