Personally, I interpreted that and him picking up the horn as meaning that Roland would care more about people and do things "right" this time around, but...if that's the case, why the fuck did we just read a bunch of books about the "wrong" version? Why did we waste time following the Roland who was doomed to not succeed? Why will we never see Roland do it right and get the "correct" ending for his journey? He'll do it all again, and he and his friends will develop differently due to the changes, meaning the versions we followed don't matter and we wasted books doing nothing. It really does match up with the retcon shit, except Dark Tower ended after that shit, whereas Homestuck and took things to the conclusion with the new versions of the characters. That was the real reason Hussie implemented ultimate selves: he realized that without them, there would be literal years of character development that meant nothing.
Also I didn't like how Suzanne's ending had her getting fake versions of Jake and Eddy that she hadn't had any experiences with to form real chemistry.

I don't even care about Homestuck flopping anymore, it declined in quality towards the end but I had lots of good memories still. If Homestuck hadn't been the finish for Hussie's creative career, the fanbase could've jumped ship onto whatever new thing he did and no one would be dissecting and discussing Homestuck's flaw as rottenly as they were forced to.
I can forgive the ending of Homestuck, what I cannot forgive is that Hussie went creatively bankrupt and never followed up with another work. I get that the monolith would've been hard to top but, he himself made arrogant claims that he wasn't worried about casting shadows.

The problem is that vision sucks and he kept with it. Artistic integrity isn't always the greatest thing, when you evolve your ideas your storytelling should evolve with you. While Act 7 might've worked right after Cascade, the big ass swerve that was Act 6 required a completely different approach that he failed to account for, and excused his ending as a big Mark Twain trollololo shooting his story to shit.
