What problems are actually caused by bad mandates and not the writer having bland ideas with bland execution?

No Infinite
No GUN or any pre 2006 elements allowed
Which includes no Classic elements
Even the characters allowed probably have to get approved by SEGA first
Shadow and Amy can't fuck
>Archie Ian
>"Wahh it's not my fault the stories are rushed, the editors are forcing me to do everything in 4-issue arcs for the trades! If I had more issues for each arc, I wouldn't have to rush things!"
>IDW Ian
>"Wahh it's not my fault the stories are drawn out and boring, the editors are forcing me to do everything in 12-issue seasons for the trades! If I was allowed to tell stories with fewer issues, they wouldn't be so decompressed and slow!"
Ian's the problem.
none, flawless series
GUN isn't allowed? Source?
Is he even blaming the editors for 12 issue long arcs? It seems more like 12 issues is the max IDW will allow.
>Archie Sonic is bad
>Archie Sonic gets cancelled
>IDW gets Sonic license
>Hires Archie Sonic writer to write IDW Sonic comic
>IDW Sonic comic is bad
But what's the CONNECTION!?!?
>pre 2006 elements
Vanilla is around, as is Chocola, and they were allowed to use Neo Metal and Gemerl.
The cutoff is SA1.
>"Wahh it's not my fault the stories are rushed, the editors are forcing me to do everything in 4-issue arcs for the trades! If I had more issues for each arc, I wouldn't have to rush things!"
Yeah, this is actually a thing he proposed. Turned out he was wrong and he works better on shorter stories.
>"Wahh it's not my fault the stories are drawn out and boring, the editors are forcing me to do everything in 12-issue seasons for the trades! If I was allowed to tell stories with fewer issues, they wouldn't be so decompressed and slow!"
He never said or implied anything like this, it's just what fans are spewing to excuse his problems.
>tfw you enjoy the games knowing they're shit, but at least they're not as shit as the comics
So you rather have this guy?
....
wait
can you confirm me, youre NOT him?
How about neither?
>Implying Ken can (or wants to) get a job in comics again.
The irrational fear over Ian being anything but the main writer after 13 years reminds me so much of Slott on ASM. When the main defense of your work becomes "what if it gets worse," it's time to let go.
The biggest mistake was giving the license to IDW.
Hide your Echidnas hide your waifus!
Archie Sonic didn't get cancelled because it was bad, it was cancelled because of ongoing legal fuckery with a past writer who has nothing to do with the new series.
What even is that? If you're going to make a Sonic thread at least post Archie Sonic online.
Archie Sonic Online is shit.
No kidding.
Who knows?
Really, all writers are held by mandates if not by the company producing the show then by sponsors. Writers are to make stories wothin those restraints.
I loke Ian but I think he is far too attached to the SATam characters and old stories. I'll never understand why he tried to hold on to that childish trash.
>Source
He can't post his taint on a blueboard.
>When the main defense of your work becomes "what if it gets worse," it's time to let go.
i remember when everyone and their grandma wanted johns off green lantern and the moment his run ended everything went to shit.
it might not be a practical defense but let's not pretend that a precedent doesn't exist.
If Johns was still on Green Lantern we wouldn't have Morrison's ongoing. I'd much rather take a risk than stick with garbage, especially with an evergreen property.
You're right though, Geoff John's is a great person to compare Ian to. They're both fans who write derivative stories and try to place things in nice little categories, putting order before quality, suffered for fear that the alternative is worse.
>Well if you don't want Ian, you clearly want Penders or a Penders 2.0!
