Well since it's a Nova thread, this is from a comicbook.com interview with Hickman from April.

Maybe but getting a lesser known or more c-list character and playing with them is something a lot of comicbook writers like to do. It all really depends were Marvel wants to put him and who else will be requesting Doctor Strange or giving a pitch that they'll like more.

It's also easier for Hickman toinclude Franklin and F4 related cosmic shit on Nova which he really likes to do especially since Rich has some connections to the F4 (he's friends with Ben, has been on adventures with them before, then there's Annihilus) plus he already wrote Doctor Strange with the Illuminati.

I also forgot the Sphinx is a Nova and F4 villain and the only Earth heroes in the Xandar/Skrull war were Nova and the F4.

Doctor Strange is possibly the most interesting character and has a lot of stuff Hickman could play with and do a lot of cool things with but I also think Nova has a lot of untaped potential that writers need to flesh out and Xandar is in much need of worldbuilding that would really be interesting for Hickman to work with.

Like Xandarian culture and how the Empire operated, what exactly is the Nova force, a bunch of unresolved plots from older comics (Queen Adora being corrupted, Garthan Saal coming back in DnA's run and not doing anything so far, the lost Xandarian colony that was mentioned in New Warriors that survived getting destroyed, the fates of the Comet, Powershouse, etc... and the characters we didn't get to see die).

Semi-related but I think Brubaker also wanted to write the character, which is why he included him in his Secret Avengers comic. But Thanos Imperative happened and he lost the character and then he left.

Hickman in Nova would be great, I'm not sure he could work with Doctor Strange though, he strikes me more as a hard science fiction advocate, and his take would be too close to Aaron's in that regard (even if it's better written). No, I think someone like Ewing would do a great Strange, pulling from the darkest corners of the lore to make a great story. He already said he liked DeMatteis' run...

But I'm deviating from the topic here: Ewing did say there were plans for Nova and Quasar and maybe things will line up with that Annihilation shenanigans.

I'm worried Cates is going to do the new main Annihilation related story, someone like him wouldn't pass that opportunity. Then again he is making an event now and writers usually go from one to the next when making events. Plus Ewing is the architect of the Marvel #1000 and the Shogun said they trusted him with this big if a project because Ewing proved capable of handling.

That has to do with the suppose Sony clause with Marvel. In Marvel Studios, we have 3 writers that have voiced liking the character and have liked him enough to include him in their drafts, Adam McKay who talked with Feige about a project mentioned he was a fan of Nova since he was a kid and has an ild 2010 tweet talking about the character. Gunn doesn't give a shit but he mentioned they looked into Rich specifically as a potential character to use. Feige gets the last say and he read Annihilation and credita that and DnA GotG as his reason to make Guardians movies.

Hate? No. She just doesn't need them. In fact, she suggests that all female warriors learn to thoroughly pleasure themselves so they don't waste their efforts on chasing boys.

They wanted to revitalize the Cosmic franchise and they chose a lotnof obscure and D-List tier characters for it. Rich himself was arguably a C-lister at that point and he had his group of fans. The character could have been done and gone in his first comic run but they brought jim back for New Warriors and kept bringing him back for more comics.

Also Rich was pretty lame but that was part of his charm. Hell the character was aware of it but he also had a lot of untaped potential and it's why he was wasted as an earth teen hero. It's why him becoming a badass in Annihilation was satiafying IMO.

In Annihilation however he's 6'1" and 190 lbs so he grew and bulked up in a 5 year span.

Why he kept being brought back? I dunno, his first run wasn't that great but I guess it made an impression on a lot of people. I know of two guys in their 40's who fucking love the Wolfman era and one of them dislikes what was done to the character in Annihilation which is crazy since most people can agree that is the best thing that has ever happened to the character.

I think that's a misconception caused by those 2 being the main characters in the DnA era. I do agree that him and Wendell are much closer friends.

Peter and Rich just don't have much outside Annihilation and whatever moments they shared in Conquest and Imperative.

Wendell's friendship with Rich was built in the Annihilation Nova mini and in Nova's own comic. Ewing seems to want to continue it so it's getting more build up.

Yeah, I noticed that too. When I read Nova's DnA comic i was surprise peter didn't show up; meanwhile, Wendell made multiple of appearances and they seemed closer in age compared to peter.

Were they planning Guardians for awhile after Annihilation? It was weird not to see Peter even make an appearance in Nova after Annihilation.

Guardians came after Annihilation Conquest, the one who had a book during that time was Nova, which was a result of the reception of the Nova miniseries in Annihilation. Since Giffen's Star-Lord was well received also, that was the beginning of GOTG. I don't think they actually had it planned at first, otherwise it would've been written by Giffen instead of DnA.

Wendell and Rich share a lot of things in common, at the very least they carry the burden of carrying the universe's well-being on their shoulders, and being thrown into leadership roles too soon while having no experience. Though Wendell is actually older (probably by a few years) and had a company of his own, he was battling with depression over feeling inadequate and unable to fulfill the expectations his father had for him. So not exactly a "loser" like Richard was but still someone who was trying to fill some big shoes.

Not just that but they didn't bother expanding on Peter's friendship with Rich outside Annihilation and whatever little things we had in the DnA era. Which would be fine and all but you have Bendis and Duggan having Quill say Rich is one of his best friends but they really didn't show us why. Even with Cates you had Nova being a background character and not giving much of a shit when things happened to Gamora or Star-Lord, and they didn't really care much for him either. You think they be more chummy with him considering their history but that's mostly because Cates doesn't give a fuck.

DnA did a lot to build a Quasar and Nova friendship, and Ewing had them acting like friends in the annual. It's why I really am looking forward to whatever he's doing with them.

It was obvious that nothing with Nova was going to be announced in SDCC and I doubt it will either in D23. If they are really planning something (and Adam Mckay was convinced Marvel Studios was) it won't be until GotG vol. 3 happens. We know from Gunn that vol.3 will set up the next phase of Marvel Cosmic in the MCU so maybe they're waiting until that happens to go on with the character.

Yeah, the hope of a nova movie or comic being announced in SDCC was high. Now the only hope of Nova getting a comic is if he gets a movie announced, which won’t happen until GOTG vol 3 because it’s supposed to set up the future of cosmic marvel.

I was fine with it because it did give us the drama of the Stones and how Peter neglected telling Gamora about them given her obsession with finding them. And eventually he was proven right.
Either way Peter was clearly upset about her concealing the whereabouts of Rich and this was before she shanked him, but obviously that's thrown off the board with Cates.

The fact is that when Rich came back no one really cared to do anything with that in regards with Star-Lord knowing, especially after Bendis made such a big show about how he and Gamora were devastated by his sacrifice.. Then there's the Nova title not lasting long enough for them to have a proper reunion.

Duggan just took all of this instead of ignoring it and used it to fuel drama between Gamora and Peter for his GotG plot. But while I can see Gamora being petty (Peter didn't tell her what happened to Rich in the Cancerverse) or callous enough to not tell Peter, it felt odd for Rich not to.

Cates really didn't give a fuck, he acknowledged that they had a falling out and gave Peter's PTSD over being killed but halfway in he turned it into Peter/Gamora shit.

Also in the fan letters for the latest issue you see a reader asking about Peter and Gamora and the editor saying that Peter fell in love with her when she gave him that kiss in the beginning of Infinity Wars. A kiss that was unnecessary but one Duggan said was not romantic and only a means for her to surprise him enough to take the power stone from him.

But the fact that the editor (who is very annoying and tends to shit on people who like Darkhawk) had to be the one to tell us how the romance began really tells you how shitty this romance is. Also I haven't seen any positive reactions from readers and casuals that follow that comic. Mostly some MCUfags that payed attention but they don't care enough to read the comic.

I gotta admit I am indifferent to the Peter and Gamora ship it's obvious synergy shit and it doesn't annoy me like the Peter and Kitty Pryde couple. I also never cared much for Gamora and Rich past Annihilation Conquest so maybe that's partially why.

Man, that editor is terrible. Every single letter page has him shitting on Darkhawk, you'd think he'd understand cosmic marvel fans but clearly doesn't, and then stumbles while trying to explain things about Phyla. Two times they received letters about her, showing that they haven't even tried to develop her, and those two times are from people who are understandingly confused about what she can do.
I wonder if it's the same editor Cates has for Venom, because it would explain A LOT. They're always enthusiastic about Wraith because of the possibilities of tying him to Knull, but every other character is met with dry enthusiasm.
