Lions are douchebags extraodinaire. A pride is just a glorified harem of maids for a lazy fuck alpha to gorge on. He doesn't give a fuck about them or the "circle of life" as long as he can keep the best food and having daily sex. They kill the younglings if they know they're not their own, and brutally kick out any male who's barely in his teens to make him the only male.
Hyenas have a complex family core structures and care for each other. Plus the puppies don't have to worry on being mauled one day.
Other than this, lion feats are extremely overrated. Most of the hunts ends up in failure and some broken ribs by a zebra kick, and more often than not use their size to seize fresh preys from other predators like cheetas, leopards etc.

That's pretty unfair. Most large preditors' success rate is extremely low. Lions' are pretty up there because they hunt in prides. They're no wolf pack, but hunting in a group is a huge advantage.

Lions aren't the most impressive in terms of muscle or speed or agility. But they're friggin' cats that hunt in groups. That alone makes them spectacular hunters.

Don't get me wrong, I love hyenas, but let's not pretend a hyena clan is any less brutal than a lion pride. Male hyenas are often bullied and brutalized and generally treated like shit, and pups are often killed by either their siblings or by the dominant female if they aren't hers.
