The problem with indie animation is the same as webcomics; theoretically anyone can do it but very few people make anything worthwhile. I can’t even think of that last notable web animation in a long while which is strange given we live in an era where indie animation should be soaring.

But Sugar is also preaching to the choir. Most of the clout she has about her show are with groups of people who ALREADY agree with her. And the SU fandom is filled with people criticizing the show, the whole "fusion is sex" debacle, probably has the most porn of any cartoon airing right now. And all of the boils down to there's no evidence showing how effective SU is at "spreading messages to children".

Unlike AT which at least had a Macy's Day Parade to confirm it's popularity, SU only seems like it's popular because small groups of people won't stop talking about it.
