Jim Zub's Champions announces end; two more Marvel books to also end early?

Jim Zub admits that his take didn't click and had to cut short, though he hints that the team will have a new story coming in the near future.

Also two series from Marvel debuting next month seem to be five-issue stealth minis.

How long did this last? I only remember seeing like 2 issues

I LOVE the Red Locust costume in this pic and would like to see more of it.

If only he had Viv upgrade herself with penis to seduce Riri

ten issues

Shit. I only got on board recently, but Zub's run has been great. Maybe if they'd had him write it from the start instead of poisoning the well with Waid...

>Absolutely every god damn thing about Miles' anatomy

Attached: 1524506211649.jpg (365x346, 16K)

Is that the second Power Man? I completely forgot he existed.

Zub only gets doomed books. His next book is Agents of Wakanda.

Agents of Wakanda.

Third I believe

Everyone always forgets that Erik Josten was Power Man before he was Atlas

That's a stealth mini if I ever seen one.

>based on examination of your internet browsing habits and physiological responses I have selected what I have determined with 93% accuracy to be your desired penis or penises from the bucket
>please assume the position

>That art
>That roster

Can't imagine why it didn't take off.

That's not how it looked the throughout the run. That's that "the books over we can stop paying the good artist" cover.

Dust was in the champions? Since when I would of checked it out for hee

Zub gets everything he deserves for fucking with the thunderbolts.

>champions cancelled at 19k
>runaways still alive at 8k

>poisoning the well with Waid
Yeah if only they could have foreseen that a legendary writer coming off an acclaimed Daredevil run would suddenly lose his touch

Nobody is surprised that a book about characters who aren't in the MCU didn't succeed, but they are disappointed

trades

Unlike Champions, Runaways has managed to actually successfully appeal to its target demographic by being its own thing instead of looking like the "kids' table" equivalent of the Avengers. So unlike Champions, the TPBs are selling and have longer term sales, which is the entire goal of trying to reach other demographics.

Marvel's also marketing October's Mary Jane series as an ongoing, even though Leah Williams (the writer) has said it's only five issues

I'd take more Zub Nova.

Sam better lose his virginity to his psychotic alien girlfriend before the comic ends.

>thunderbolts
I remember when Yea Forums was hyped for that.
Did we ever learn how Fixer got out of his time loop?

>last issue will be about every male member of the team ravaging Kamala's cavities

Good post

>Two volumes
>Still no Pymtron

So, what was the point of that plot? I hope we see Sparky in the Iron Man ongoing.

Kobik.

Nova's space yandere girlfriend was the only thing I cared about.

The team was too crammed and didn't have a plot tying it all together.

She joined them right before the WoTR tie-ins as a guest.

I'm sure he's going to carry over that plot into Iron Man/Ultron Agenda, since he's co-writing with Slott.

Meh, it was 3 things.

1.Waid's too old to write kids.
2. He wasn't exactly given much to work with. Waid's great at doing continuity and lore heavy stuff. A bunch of new characters he knows nothing about? Nope.
3. Most Marvel writers don't really know shit about politics. They get all their info from twitter and when trying to do a story about real world issues it falls apart. Kinda like if you think you can drive because you play a lot of Mario Kart or whatever

Knew that sounded like a final arc/issue solicit

That school shooting issue was retarded.
Two superheros, TWO are in that school! And you expect me to believe they wouldn't done shit and just idle for the sake of their secret identity?

>1.Waid's too old to write kids.
Ugh, tell me about it. You ever read his Archie?

That was Zub though, yeah it was pretty stupid. Which sucks because there could've been an easy fix, just make the kid a mutant or inhuman or whatever, regular kids with guns shouldn't be able to pull shit like that in the MU

I liked it because of the emotional weight, because thinking too deep about how heroes would solve everything overnight just breaks all suspension of disbelief. They're just kids.

.Waid's too old to write kids.
>Ugh, tell me about it. You ever read his Archie?

A bit. Was pretty cringe at points, although have the Archie kids ever sounded like kids?

>Archie kids ever sounded like kids?
Archie was never written for anyone over the age of 12 until this decade so it's kind of hard to compare. The Archie characters are basically cartoons and so they sound like it.

Yeah, all of them fought in space, other dimensions, saw people dying and sometimes impaling, but some random kid with gun is the problem for them.

Might have been good message IF IT WAS DONE RIGHT!

Archie's like always been old fucks pretending to be kids so Waid's actually perfect for it

The problem was Archie went all in on Riverdale synergy. So instead of getting to write whacky cartoon adventures, Waid was writing melodramatic PG-13 network soap opera. It wasn't ALL bad but it has things like
>Archie and Reggie drag racing, and running over Betty. Now Betty is a paraplegic (which of fucking course just got undone for comic book reasons).
>Cheryl and her brother are main characters now and their dad is a psychokiller! He escapes from prison and holds the kids hostage at the dance!
And now they've doubled down with Nick Spencer who is writing Archie dating Sabrina (because she has a show now too), and Jughead is the narrator and now an investigative journalist. Now the book is comic book Riverdale.

Sorry for going on, I just never get to talk Archie on Yea Forums

>because thinking too deep about how heroes would solve everything overnight just breaks all suspension of disbelief.

That's a pretty shitty defense, considering that they're just solving an issue immediately presenting itself in front of them. You know like every other time, danger appears, hero has to slip away and switch out, the thing we expect from this thing.

There's no emotional investment to be had when the answer is 'do the thing you do every other time someone's robbing a bank in front of you'.

Nooooo I liked this book

Why are all the books I like getting cancelled or ending fuck

So who is missing from this final cover?

>Wasp
>Pinpoint
>Falcon
>Bombshell

Anyone else?

Yeah, it looked like it was going to end from the solicits.
Damn shame, i loved this book. Hope Zub will get to write those characters again in the future, he did an amazing job with them.
In a sense, all of this reminds me of Yost's New Warriors.

Shocking, a book about failed diversity woke legacy bullshit failed again, even after they added woke OC bullshit.

user pls, STOP

>Yea Forumsmblr still shilling this shitty book

She bring it on herself with being that cute and damn sexy

>after they done she wouldn't be able to walk or close any her gapping holes for months, even with her powers

Please, for the love of god, give them something concrete to do!

This most recent run we had

>Initial setup for a plot about the Champions having expanded, but also maybe being spread a little too thin, while some of the founding members begin to slip away.
>Weird emotional fuck-up side-plot about Kamala and Viv dying, only for Miles to make a deal-with-the-devil to revive them. Leads to drama about Miles/Kamala quitting the team.
>lol guess we have to be involved in War of the Realms so here's a side mission
>One of our founding members was de-powered previously so we could work towards that ... no wait he just went off on his own side mission with murderous alien girl

They've been a little all over the place. I haven't even read the most recent few issues, partly for this reason, I'm not really connected to any larger on-going plot.

They've got so many members now, it's hard to imagine what they could do that isn't either generic superhero mission stuff (a big team of people punching baddies), or core-group drama with a whole bunch of poorly characterized background bodies. I was hoping this run of the book would address the issue of the Champions expanding so much, and it seemed like it was maybe going in that direction with some of the leadership worries ... buuut I'm not so sure any more? I guess at best we can expect a reboot with a smaller, focused team again?

>damn sexy
user...i...,please get some help

You trying to tell me she isn't?
That's kinda racist

Attached: v6f9TDow-LA.jpg (555x557, 46K)

She is Cute(for now, look all new wolverine, she make the indian butt stereotype real, sort of)

?

Runaways also probably sells more digitally. We have the physical sales numbers, but Marvel avoids releasing their digital sales numbers.

remember she is still illegal

Attached: 17.jpg (456x1744, 272K)

this
fuck Zub, hope all of his books get cancelled early

If Viv needs to seduce Riri she needs to merge her AI with N.A.T.A.L.I.E.

Attached: Ironheart 001-031.jpg (1987x3056, 1.06M)

bring back Kupperberg :(

These characters objectively suck.

>Kamala down to one book
>the most recent cancell had better sales than her solo
She is done son

Marvel Team-Up ended only with Peter crossover?
Lame

Attached: 1562175102264.png (867x1413, 2.26M)

No there's also another team-up with Captain Marvel coming out, and after that it's canceled.

But that book has fat cobra. How can it fail?

Guess I need another teen hero book, any suggestions?

Sword Master?

Forgot pic-related

Attached: 771909._SX360_QL80_TTD_.jpg (360x553, 80K)

Sure, there's uh...
Oh yeah, Death's Head mini with Kate, Wiccan and Hulkling in it. That's it.
No wait, Ironheart has crossovers with some of the Champions from time to time. Funny how she managed to save herself by not showing up much in this book lately. Really damn sucks that it's gone though.

Attached: DEATHH2019004_cov_2.jpg (791x1200, 1.01M)

Why does every team book I like get cancelled? first the new warriors and now champions.

Attached: 1560446937117.png (1387x676, 1.71M)

Once invaders is gone there’s no team book i like left

That book started out great.

>Roster comprised of mostly bootleg characters
>no ones interested

surely, the new story will surely save it

If you want something like Champions, Agents of Atlas is probably your closest bet, it even has Cho and Silk in it.

Attached: aoatlas2019001_dc11.jpg (994x1528, 261K)

Same for me, fuck. GOTG is so shitty right now OMG.
Look here's why it was "all over the place": he had long term plans with it. He was seeding different plots to explore them all concurrently and at their due time, while focusing on the main characters that were overlooked first (like Sam). Some with very little hindsight assumed he hated Nova but the fact was that he wanted to give him something to do on his own without depending on the team, which he did, I don't think he would've had such an adventure with Kaldera unless he had his own book.
And the same goes for Miles and Amadeus, although the latter was basically given an excuse to peace out so he would be in Agents of Atlas.

I honestly don't get people like you and those who are posting the same thing over and over. Yeah, the team was mostly legacies and OCs, so what? Should every book be comprised of popular characters? This is how you get overcrowded with Batman and Spider-Man books.
Also this isn't a new book, it was building up from a previous volume where they were already established. Hell we're not even talking about Waid here, Zub completed that run and had some solid groundwork done. It just sucks that people like things enough to follow them closely but not to pay for them.

Attached: champions_25-27.jpg (2048x1552, 930K)

Goddamn Marvel has to stop cancelling books before they get the sales in for the first trade. Volume 1 comes out in August and the book stabilized at 19.5k that should be enough to give it 15 issues on the chance that the trade makes up lost income.

Given what Zub said, it’ll be relaunching soon. He just won’t be helming it.

I think sales have something to do with it but I think there was already a decision to relaunch before the sale numbers came in

You know when cosmic characters are better written in Dr Strange something is very wrong

Lord I hate Cates GOTG so much

>Should every book be comprised of popular characters?
No, but it shouldn't be mostly comprised of unpopular characters are meant to be replacements for the popular characters.

I like red locust too, very rider esque. I wouldn't mind reading a mini of her.

Attached: Fernanda_Rodriguez_(Earth-616)_from_Champions_Vol_2_9_001.jpg (1250x1098, 279K)

So more characters like Red Locust?

If you don't know shit about these characters you shouldn't be commenting with such authority. Aside from maybe Miles, not a single one of these characters was made with the intention of replacing the original, none.
Preach it. Can't wait until he's off the book and other cosmic properties, but that won't happen for a while unfortunately.

Attached: Whatever_4.jpg (600x850, 132K)

>He was seeding different plots to explore them all concurrently and at their due time
That's fine - good, even - but you still need something that is tying everything together in the meanwhile. You probably shouldn't just splinter things off before giving a solid direction, especially given that we're talking about a team-up book.

>but the fact was that he wanted to give him something to do on his own without depending on the team
But surely that's part of the problem: it's a *TEAM* book. "Sam doesn't have a solo book so I gave him his own disconnected plot" doesn't really make much sense in this context, at least not without some strong indication that it's building to something team-wise.

My assumption was that Sam's plot would end with him getting in trouble and needing the team to show up to rescue him - perhaps with qt murderous alien lady joining the squad - but it seems weird to have this whole disconnected side thing in a book that is already seemingly having identity issues, just for a "haha we came and saved you" resolution.

I dunno.

>Aside from maybe Miles

Not even miles because he was promoted to sidekick in both universe. Peter is still spiderman in both universes.

Only spidey that officially replace Peter parker without Peter coming back to life and taking his name back is still miguel's.

Attached: Spider_man_2099_by_alexiscabo1-da0sb8p.png (888x1141, 472K)

Honestly, I'm really liking this more so than the Champions.

looking a team book with originals here

Awww, your poor fragile ego.

Its not that they weren't in the mcu its just that most of them were pretty shit characters, or at best mediocre ones. Zub did a fine job with what he had, but in the end a polished turd is still a turd

I don't even think those characters are teens anymore

That's just your opinion, and a pretty biased one at that. They certainly weren't shit.

This. Fuck Zub for fucking Psylocke.

Needed more Cyclops

This.

Attached: Scott and Kamala.jpg (1988x2097, 1.3M)

I sad

Same here. Hope next time they get a better chance, unless they plan on focus on solo miniseries from now on.
