Immortal Hulk is the best thing Marvel is putting out right now, definitely read that. Likewise, The Green Lantern over at DC is great. I'd also recommend Waid's Doctor Strange if you're a fan of the character.
Andrew Rivera
don't read marvel, its nothing but sjw shit. but dc is doing amazingly right now
It's really not. Deathstroke and The Green Lantern are their own 2 worthwhile ongoings
Sebastian Anderson
None of the comics I read delved too far into that direction. ASM kinda did, but to a humorous extent.
What DC books would you recommend?
Elijah Baker
Man, shut up. >Are there any other cool comics I should look out for? Marvel, DC, independent, whatever... Aside from the ones you've already gotten recommended, I can give you these indie comics:
Infinite Dark (for your hard sci-fi needs) East of West (close to finishing this year, in fact) Black Monday Murders East of West (three trades out so far) Die (first trade is already out)
Oh and please go check Doctor Strange by Waid? It's been amazing, a return to form and much closer to classic Strange in a cosmic scale.
Lucifer, Dreaming, Doom Patrol, Wonder Twins, Dial H, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Collapser are pretty good.
Grayson Brooks
He's just shitposting. DC is in a creative rut right now with Bendis and King calling the shots and absolutely destroying the Batman and Superman franchises in the process. Meanwhile, Marvel has been on a huge upswing since Yoshida took over as EiC. That said, The Green Lantern by Morrison is 11/10, and I'm really enjoying SHAZAM!
Grayson Jackson
Hello 5 years ago user
Austin Ward
This is the best thing to hit Marvel in years. Hickman showing hacks like Rosenberg, Tino Howard, Ewing, Brisson, Slott how to write a good comic .
Gavin White
>Enjoying Shazam The last person anyone should take advice from is a Johnstard.
Josiah Martin
Okay yeah fair enough
Daniel Flores
>johns is bad
Only a retard would believe that. Have fun with King and Bendis and Snyder.
Chase Barnes
What's wrong with Johns' SHAZAM!? It's not like I'm over here recommending Doomsday Clock.
Jeremiah Peterson
I read House of X and for me it's super meh. But I'm not an X-men fan and haven't regularly read the X-Books since Jim Lee left.
But it feels like a 90s book and it had no major X-men moments. magneto, wolverine, jean grey and Charles Xavier was the only ones that appeared briefly.
Jace Taylor
Check out Doctor Strange (also by Waid, who wrote HotMU) if you like his more classic stories
Landon Butler
>it feels like a 90s book Explain It feels very early/mid 10s to me
Easton Barnes
I'm no X-Men fan and I thought it was quite possibly one of the best books I've read this year, because it appeals to the part of me that enjoys a very specific aspect of the Marvel universe: continuity, worldbuilding, and autistic charts. That's also why I enjoy the latest stuff Waid has been involved with, and Ewing's series.
Thomas Cooper
jesus, shilling so hard. it was mediocre as fuck hickman literally rewrote his avx issue, stop hyping this garbage so hard
Chase Nguyen
this, marvel is finished.
Andrew Adams
you are a pleb that is easily pleased, that's who you are if you think this was one of the best
Michael Martinez
No you
It's the worst Captain Marvel comic of the decade. Not even a tiny fraction as good as Thunderworld. Morrison is BTFOing his GL run as well.
Colton Brown
>you are a pleb that is easily pleased Yeah, a guy who enjoys deep continuity and order in his universe is actually a pleb who's easily pleased. Go fuck yourself.
Alexander Long
You are a pleb, because all you need is some charts, some meh story that was done to death and a big name attached to the book to be pleased. Yes, you are 100% pleb. Stay away from my wife's son, you cuckold
Hunter Murphy
>because all you need is some charts, some meh story that was done to death and a big name attached to the book to be pleased No, no I don't, then again I'm clearly arguing with an angry X-fag whose standards are deep up his ass. Post discarded, good day to you.
Thomas Ortiz
читaй диcи тoлькo, y них кpyтыe и мpaчныe кoмикcы для интeллeктyaлoв. мapвeл пo мнe cлишкoм дeтcкий и нecepьeзный. я пpeдпoчитaю бoлee филocoфcкиe и глyбoкиe иcтopии, пepeocмымливaющиe миp и бытиe.
Jaxon Cox
>whose standards are deep up his ass thanks for a compliment. I never knew that having high standards and that demanding The Best was a bad thing. Good to know
Logan Rodriguez
Muh ehs jay dubajuice
Nathaniel White
> I never knew that having high standards and that demanding The Best was a bad thing. LMAO you're just a retard
Andrew Watson
Deathstroke is trash
Gabriel Ortiz
The first issue of collapser was good, but it’s a little early to recommend imo. Same for Jimmy
Austin Powell
says a pleb without standards
Leo Lee
I do have plenty of standards, you're just butthurt over a comic because it didn't feature your favorite punching bullshit.
Jonathan Myers
no, I don't like the comic, because it was meh. I'm not some pleb who fawns over big fucking nothing
Kevin Walker
Get a room
Anthony Collins
>because it was meh You can't even verbalize what you want in a comic book, and for someone who has "high standards", qualifying things as "meh" is ridiculous. I own a house bitch
Hunter Hughes
We don't speak Krakoan, user.
Liam Ward
Hickman saves the Marvel Universe confirmed
Jason Johnson
I want: good, captivating story with a premise that wasn't done to death, especially if it was hyped as The Next Big Thing Ever That Will Change The X-Men Forever. Nice try at strawmaning
Andrew Clark
>I want: good, captivating story with a premise that wasn't done to death Oh this is so very specific, tell me more! Or rather, don't. I don't want to discuss any more with a retard who calls Larraz and Hickman's amazing art and attention to detail "meh".
Nicholas Jackson
I’ll cut you a break because you admit that you haven’t been here in a very long time, or maybe you’ve never been here before, but when someone is Goldie new one in such an obvious way you just don’t reply to them. Ignore older posts pretend they don’t exist what you’re doing right now is exactly what he wants you to do and it’s really sad to watch
Adam Cruz
Blah blah just accept your limitations salty faggot
Mason Taylor
Johns is bad
Brandon Thompson
I have been here for years, I'm just killing time Accept yours first, bitch
Kayden Cruz
Goading you on in such*
Joshua Cruz
>Accept yours first, bitch Kek, I'm not the one who considers hox "good"
Nolan Mitchell
To be fair, the hox was a wet fart so far
Adrian Jenkins
I agree that it so far just sounds like another "Mutants claim superiority and an independent nation on another island" story but it's also issue #1. We haven't even gotten Powers of X yet. Isn't it a little too early to say this premise is done to death and isn't going to live up to the hype? It's the final issue that is said to have the huge turning point that influences X-comic for years to come.
Chase Reyes
Just ignore that retard. He's the type of cancer that ruins Yea Forums
House of X was dope, can't wait for Powers next week
Christopher Miller
We know the entire plan goes to hell since Powe of X is set 60 years in the future with the new sentinels hunting the next gen X-Men.
So the actual premise for the franchise seems to elude us.
Samuel Adams
If I learned anything from marvel is that #1 are usually the best and that it's always downhill from there
Michael Jones
Only s_d, tumblr and sjws think Johns is bad because he is not "woke" enough. I recommend you go back to tumblr.
Landon Parker
I'm almost willing to bet money that you're going to hate Hox once it's over and that you'll be sorely disappointed. You are all ignoring me, because I am the voice of reason, and it bugs you, because deep down you know that I'm right
Dominic Powell
strawpoll.me/18372144 if you didn't awsnered yet, here is your chance, poll ends today who Scott should marry?
Brandon Ross
Huh, what recent titles you think fell into that trap? For the ones I follow, it’s basically the opposite
Bentley Smith
Please leave these threads retard
Brody Green
>He's the type of cancer that ruins Yea Forums Agreed, and I'm an enabler. But not anymore.
OP should also check this one, by the way... It's another sci-fi story with a mystery, started by a death in the community and unveiled by a group of teenagers who learn to work together. It's very good.
You don't have to like the truth, you just need to accept it, instead of living in denial
Eli Phillips
2015 poster is time traveling
Jacob Clark
>It's the worst Captain Marvel comic of the decade There's been a total of 3 non-Johns Captain Marvel comics over the past decade. Not like three different runs, I mean literally a one-shot and a two-issue mini. It being "the worst Captain Marvel comic of the decade" really doesn't mean anything when it's the only Captain Marvel ongoing we've had for the past decade.
Just like Tomasi's Superman was supposed to be the best Superman since ASS? I can't take anything Tomasifags say seriously. Say whatever you may about King's run, his Brave and Mold, Superfriends, Elmer Fudd issues were far better than Tomasi's inoffensive schlock.
Owen Torres
>defending crap zealously >not being a shill
Hickman's run is supposed to be the best since Morrison, and frankly, I'm not impressed
Ryan Ross
Now that's a name I didn't hear in a while too bad she's too C-list. Could be interesting to see him outside of the x-sphere of relationships
Alexander Stewart
No
Alexander Adams
Damn thanks for being so frank, I know this was hard for you and clearly you're a man of immutable savvy.
Asher Gutierrez
Tomasis first story in Tec was literally a 6 issue dream sequence. And not a cool, trippy dream sequence. A punching bad guys dream sequence.
Nathaniel Bell
Would Batman even dream about anything else lol
Chase Morales
I’ll just say it’s lousy comics and if you wanna know more I would read his Tec run (online, for free). If you see anyone on this board praise this comic you can ignore their opinions about anything else.
Bentley Sullivan
Daredevil has pretty much always been readable even at its worst. The last couple runs have been pretty good and done relatively new things with the character as well. The current storyline is dealing with the fact that Matt accidentally murdered somebody because he came back from an injury too early and wasn't on his A game.
Lincoln Stewart
Soule stunk imo.
Chip has been good
Colton Johnson
Admittedly I skipped Soule. Waid was the last DD I read before Chip.
Ryder Brown
That weird period where the X-men were interacting a bunch with Power Man, Iron Fist and the Daughters of the Dragon because Claremont was working on both was some of my favorite issues out of the Claremont-era.
Asher Roberts
This. I cant think of any other capshit comics that are that quality that are ongoing. Maybe Spider-Man that was throughout the decades.
Bentley Johnson
Immortal Hulk. It's a classic in the making. And a lot of people who never cared for Hulk are loving it.
Carson Miller
*tips fedora
Alexander Garcia
I am, but I refuse to support Mark "Crybaby" Waid
Samuel Campbell
Comicsgaters get the bullet.
Cooper Williams
I'm not even talking about that shit, I'm talking about how he's an unstable whiny bitch
Noah Flores
See
Jayden Taylor
You people are fucking retarded, even before the Jawbreakers thing Mark Waid was known as a vindictive little cunt
Gabriel Edwards
You didn’t miss much. I put Soule with Diggle in the “pretend it never happened” box
Angel Evans
I have a thing for very bad stuff, might do it some day lol
Oliver Bennett
OP I'm recommending the new Conan the Barbarian ongoing. This is my favorite title from the big 2, the one that gets me the most jazzed to read month-to-month, and I think it's criminally slept on on Yea Forums (probably because they have a hate-boner for Aaron.)
But it's clear Aaron is a big Conan fan and the book reflects that. Pic related was a particularly enjoyable story. It's basically Conan as Batman. Nuff said
Forget DC and Marvel for a moment and check out Middlewest and Die from Image Comics. Some of the most well written books out, so far.
Colton Jackson
Seconding Die. That book is terrific.
Matthew Brooks
Thirding Die-- Oh wait I already recommended it above.
Nolan Johnson
Fourthing it- wait it's me again
Adam Bennett
You already did if you're OP.
Don't worry I did the same. I hate the faggot but he wrote a good comic this week with that history of shit.
Caleb Howard
>on a limb lolwat
William Bell
He was climbing trees when the inspiration struck him. Is that okay??
Jace Cox
There's nothing inherently CG about hating Waid newfag. If you were into comics before last year you would know he's a fucking nutcase who has a plethora of not just scorned associates but legitimate enemies.
Also you're a faggot ass pussy who wouldn't kill a fucking fly. Nobody believes you faggots would shoot anyone.
David Harris
Fuck off faggot. His Conan is shit and he'll be cucked soon enough.
Cooper Harris
Can you faggots keep your e-drama out of a perfectly good reccs thread?
Brandon Ross
So are you retarded or ESL? It's one or the other.
Juan Rivera
Reply to the faggot next time. And no, telling someone they're wrong isn't edrama. There's one user who tried to turn this into one of those threads and they're too new to know how hated waid is.
Caleb Phillips
"on a limb", presumably "to go out on a limb", isn't used correctly here. I'm pretty sure OP meant to say "on a whim".
It was ok. Asking for an earnest opinion about a Jason Aaron book on Yea Forums is a mistake, they'll just say it's shit no matter what.
Read it and decide for yourself.
Gabriel Campbell
The problem here is that Aaron wrote during the last decade some of the most prominent characters and in return, they became sort of the "new status quo" for them. Hulk, Ghost Rider, Thanos, Thor (obviously) and Doctor Strange... So all the writers who come after him either followed upon his ideas or did full continuity clean-up, reverting them to how they used to be. In the case of Aaron, Waid's Strange is a complete return to form, it's closer to Classic Strange with his own spin (since he brings the cosmic side with him). Those who do not agree or don't like Waid's and can't recognize these things, it's simply because they didn't read anything prior to Aaron, and are also used to Cates run (who followed Aaron's take).
I didn't like Aaron's take because it grounded him too much and basically introduced a bunch of things that lessened the character's reach and influence in ways that weren't needed.
>Good mix of serious storytelling and silver age goofiness No it's not, it's more of Snyder doing his worst Morrison impression
Hunter Green
That's seems like a fair overview. I just love Strange comics for its dealings with demons and wild art. Wasn't even sure how I felt about Waid going cosmic at first because it kinda got away but I liked what he did with The Doctor is Out enough to give it a go.
Aiden Robinson
Please explain to me why "Snyder bad Morrison good"
Kayden Ross
>and silver age goofiness More like Scott Snyder went go to see an Avengers movie and thought "now THAT's how you write dialogue!" Look at this crap. It's like fan fiction.
Credit where it's due though, Jorge Jiminez is a rising star. Yes I realize this page isn't Jiminez
That issue is literally the only time they ever talk like that.
Sebastian Diaz
Funny, I actually ALMOST picked up House of X today on a limb as well. Saw it on the shelf and picked it up but then decided against it and put it back. If it’s actually good then maybe i’ll go back and give it a go. Only problem is I haven’t read any X-Men comics for years (I think Avengers VS X-Men was the last thing I read) will I be able to understand House of X?
Josiah Gonzalez
samefag
Austin Collins
Yeah and other issues deal with ever-escalating crises and action figure smashing and the Batman Who Laughs. Brilliant stuff. I can't fucking stand Snyder's JL. This Perpetua shit is mind-numbingly stupid. I would have to be 10 years old to find this shit stimulating.
Lucas Hall
>Only problem is I haven’t read any X-Men comics for years (I think Avengers VS X-Men was the last thing I read) will I be able to understand House of X? Yeah. This is basically a clean slate, in fact the very first pages show exactly why you shouldn't even bother reading anything prior.
Anthony Russell
Charles is alive again. Which you'll know by seeing him being alive. It's comics. You'll figure it out.
Ethan Martin
you're a weird one, user, but im glad to see another person of taste.
