What happened to political cartoons? the age of quality cartoonists like Thomas Nast and Louis Raemaeker are long gone. now we just have heavy-handed strips devoid of any soul. What happened?

They were replaced by memes. Or rather funny and ironic pictures of animals and internet characters have taken their place. Because political cartoons are memes: they instantly put an idea in your head.
