How to fix DC universe

Post your ideas to fix it.
>Batman should be removed from the main universe, or at least Detective Comics should be disjoint from it.
>Comics should focus more on self contained interesting stories rather than these continuous events that are popping out every month. The Holiday specials are the most fun DC comics I’ve read in a while, along with Morrison’s GL run.
>Characters like the antimonitor, from my point of view were really fun when they didn’t have all of this misunderstood motivations or whatever. I think being a huge asshole should be enough of a backstory for the antimonitor and like. Some characters are ok being 2 dimensional.
>Really want to emphasize point 2, that there are always universe shattering events, that I just don’t care anymore. Right now there’s three Justice Leagues concurrently dealing with 3 distinct reality shattering events!

I was really enjoying superman rebirth, until they fused him to new 52 superman and started fucking with Superboy.

I was also actively ignoring the meta-event, so I have no idea what happened with that. But yeah, events tend to make stories attached to them worse. I remember this one event with the kidnapped supermen that kinda bled over into superman’s main book without buildup or anything. Felt very hollow and non sequitur when you were just reading superman.

Fire Tom King.

That's all I got.

Make my OTP canon. Write things that I like (even if others don't like it), and erase everything that I don't like (even if others like them).

I also enjoyed superman rebirth, but at the same time it cemented that superbro wasn’t coming back. And superbro died just when I thought he was starting to get interesting.

Apparently, you are on the wrong side of this, OP.
Every new comic should tie-in with Batman, and, if it's a comic to be heavily promoted,
It should also have Joker and Harley.
With a side order of the Souper verse.
MORE BAT.

Each run is treated as its own separate story. When one writer leaves, the new writer gets a clean slate to do what he wants with the characters unless the new guy wants to use concepts/ characters the previous writer introduced.

For example:

user A writes a 50 issue Batman run featuring Batman with Tim Drake and Cassandra Cain as major characters.

user B takes over after user A's run ends and writes a 65 issue run about Dick as Batman with Damian as his Robin.

>how to fix detective comics universe
>detective Comics should be disjoint from it

Yes! I think this is somewhat what they were aiming with in Batman Eternal I think, but less extreme. That’s probably partially why Hawkman and GL are doing pretty well right now, since they are in their own microcosm, and I think this allows the writer more creative freedom. Only problem is people that want some sort of continuity. So perhaps DC could use characters that already have two books simultaneously like batman and superman.

This is probably why a lot of people got hooked on GL during Geoffs run. Even the events focused on the lanterns so it still felt self contained.

Heh, admittedly I completely forgot what DC meant. When you put it that way it does sound like an oxymoron.

No more white straight men. Done.

Yeah, I hadn’t thought about that. I hadn’t begun reading comics when Sinestro War was going on, but when I got to it, it did feel like DC was an made to complement GL all throughout war of light and blackest night. I wonder if people were upset about all the GL centric stories at the time. Personally, I enjoyed most of it.

GL was the big thing in DC around the time and peaked with Blackest Night
I remember everyone wearing color spectrum shirts back then

We're trying to make it better long term, not more profitable short term

What was Antimonitor's reason to be an asshole again?

I always feel like continuity is a double edged sword. The positives of continuity is that it keeps things orderly(or as close to orderly as possible) for readers. The downside of continuity is that it doesn't allow for character development(to a certain extent), retooling and keeps damaging stories around(these can be fixed by retcons, but that's another issue).

DC has a lot a characters that desperately need retooling and sometimes I think continuity(and general incompetence)keep them from fixing what needs to be fixed.

Same concept

We just need more elseworlds damn it.

Nothing, which was awesome. Like that pterodactyl in spiderman that just wants to transform people into dinosaurs. However that changed in a recent JL chapter like a month ago where they made it into a personal vendetta.

superman dies, but forever
no retcons, no resets, no redos, no takesies backsies

I agree, right now DC has enough material to just expand laterally and explore side stories instead of just doing epic after epic.

And I think we are getting some in the form of the dark multiverse. But also it’d be cool if they weren’t all about darkness. Lighthearted things like the Summer specials would be great.

1) Fire Dan DiDio, every terrible book DC has printed has his name on. The snake rots from the head down.
2) hire actual editors and an EIC who can make everyone work together, DC is worst than 90's Marvel, Batman and Detective Comics, and Justice League might as well be on three separate planets Batman is so wildly different in each book.
3) expunge the New 52 continuity and the Dark Multiverse concept, they're broken at their core and actively hurt storytelling instead of supporting it.
4) either rewind to before Flashpoint or start new from Ground Zero, I sugest the former since DC has gone bonkers with retellings of origin stories as of late.
6) redefine the multiverse, 52 worlds is not enough it should encapsulate everything, The Endless and the New Gods and characters of their ilk should not exist outside the multiverse. They should have dupes as well. 1 Darkseid getting beat up by multiple Supermen makes him a weaker villain
5) Zatanna monthly, because why not.

Sell it to Disney

This. And it also goes for Marvel too.

I feel like this Dark Multiverse concept is set up for a Light Multiverse(unless the mainstream DC comics universe is the 'light' version of the Dark Multiverse).

Bring back Wally West as the main Flash, or at least restore him to a level of prominence equal to Barry. That should be okay to begin with.

Your second point is part of the reason I wish for a separate universe for Batman. I think the more interesting batman stories would happen in a more grounded universe. Right now I agree Batman doesn’t make any sense, even in the physical sense. He’s supposed to be in some mountain, but is also with the Justice league, and maybe even more things idk about.

>The Endless and the New Gods and characters of their ilk should not exist outside the multiverse.
They're beings above the concept of life, they should exists outside the multiverse but inside the source

What kind of vendetta was the Anti-Monitor doing

>I think the more interesting batman stories would happen in a more grounded universe.
To be honest, i feel that the whole "grounded" thing is what has been damaging Batman for almost a decade now. Because DC has been treating the Nolan's movies as a gospel where Batman is a terrible thing not only for Bruce, but Gotham as a whole and everything is about deconstruction all the positive aspects of the character and his world. This "grounded" approach is what gave us Tom King's run. Hell, you can see Catwoman become more and more prominent over the years since this "grounded" thing started.

The monitor “tricked” (he didn’t) the antimonitor into being the warden of a useless universe by defeating perpetua, so the antimonitor swore vengeance on the monitor. or something like that.

You might be right. Definitely if batman was less grounded he could fit in better with the justice league. Having said that, I really liked Batman Earth One which is why I thought grounded was better. But I also think it’d be cool if Batman used the beyond suit. I think I’d like to see both of them. Perhaps a continuation of grounded batman in the same earth one universe, and a more futuristic batman in the mainline universe.

This.

Why do you want to kill superman?

Because DC doesn't know how use it.
They want Supes to be an important character, but they make him a overpowered gary stu, and if was someone like Saitama it could be funny. But they want Superman to be the greatest superhero ever and wanting supervillains to defeat him.
So either making Superman a mantle and turning Clark Kent in his Silver Age alias "Nova" or make Superman a Zack Snyder's depressed superhero that doesn't know how to be the most powerful man in the earth

Add an Earth like planet in the same universe as prime Earth and use it as a home for some Earth bound Green lanterns, Flash and Shazam.

Why someone gave Scott Snyder creative control? Seems he wanted to work for Marvel and Dragon Ball but they rejected him and so he uses his frustations in the DC universe

1. Fire Dan Didio and Bob Harras and everybody else who works at DC as an editor or editor-like creature
2. Fire all writers
3. Some of the artists can stay but fire about half of them just to cull the herd
4. Cancel every comic
5. Total, absolute reboot
6. Fuck it, this is too much work
7. Let's go do absinthe shots instead

Any idea that involves removing Batman in any from the DCU is an instant no-go. He's their biggest, most reliable moneymaker. There is zero chance they would take him out of the equation.
