My main take is that the constraints of film mean it can't be dragged out as some bullshit mystery, which was one of my main objections, and Waititi seems to have strong individual readings and they'll let him run with them

After giving SotN a shot, the thing that stands out to me about the Igavania's is the sheer amount of items available. Since I'm much more used to Metroid and its much more straightforward approach, having, like, options is gonna take some getting used to.

Speaking as a non Thor reader, I'm not sure why it was even set up as a mystery. There are only so many characters it could've been.

The worst sort of mystery is an obvious one that's only withheld due to some narrative imperative of the writer, and Aaron's track record with backstory reveal mysteries *sucks*

IMO, that's the second worst type of mystery. The worst type is the one where the answer is given no clues whatsoever, and it just comes off as a big what the fuck. Lookin' at you, Shadow Broker.

Making it a mystery is so stupid and counter-intuitive that I have to wonder if it was a "suggestion" from editorial make the plotline more marketable.
Plus that way they can get extra sales on both the first appearance AND the reveal issue, it's like having TWO first appearances!

I completely forgot about this guy. That's actually a big problem with this series, that the characters who are ostensibly the main antagonists are virtually irrelevant. Ivana is for all intents and purposes, the big bad, but she rarely appears.

Especially considering she was already quite popular at this point, so it's less "hurr hurr muscle babe" and more "muh nerdy waifu".

I don't know, he's still got all that kung fu goofery happening.

But his coitus underachievwr traits are really off brand.

My objection to Jane Thor in the movies is pretty well the same as my objection to movie Bucky Cap- she isn't enough of a character yet for it to feel earned.

I'm nearly done Prince of Fools and absolutely loved the section where they end up in the metro terminal filled with mannequins. That kind of post apocalyptic insanity is always fun.

It's a very odd trilogy--I never got into the first one, and the protagonist of the second isn't quite my jam but the setting is, and his most recent work is definitely a response to the "you just write grimdark that hates women" because it's all-women-led and I'd rec it to someone wanting female protagonists without hesitation

She's also still noticeably quite tall. See, this is the problem with media insisting that everyone be conventionally attractive. Even when a character is supposed to be ugly or even plain, they still end up being hot. Specifically, when Dick Giordano put his foot in his mouth and when a bunch of writers piled on him.

I think he means that they downplayed Chewbacca's savagery in the sequels. In the first one he kills a bunch of Imperials by beating the shit out of them and Han Solo mentions wookiees tend to rip people's arms off their sockets; his roar was noticeably louder in the original movie too. In the next movies he's not as violent and tends to stick to his gun like everyone else, he's also a lot more cuddly and sentimental in general, and they even give him more comedic scenes.

Pre-written for the trade stories tended to be way less drag ass on storylines, if some thing was going to go on forever, half the time it would just get quietly dropped, like Bobby's rock'n'roll girlfriend.
