There's a difference between acknowledging that people have political opinions irl and using a comic to voice YOUR OWN political opinions. If you think that even a single character in this comic shares Gerber's political views then you don't know anything about Steve Gerber. Unlike modern comics "writers", Gerber had no problem with writing characters that he completely disagreed with and not having to make them villains either.

I don't know if I would say it's better than Watchmen, but I do kind of agree the deconstructing is better than Watchmen.
To me this is funny because I couldn't think of too many things in the early 90's that had an obvious Watchmen influence, but Foolkiller was hardly a successful title (and besides, Gerber would've done this sort of series anyway even without Watchmen existing).

There's more Watchmen influence in early 90s than you're giving credit for. Most attempts at the time at "serious" superhero stories were inspired by Watchmen even if they were dissimilar in other ways. Even something like Kingdom Come is basically "the Mark Waid equivalent of Watchmen".

What would a modern Foolkiller be like? I guess that he'd keep the purification gun, but modernize the costume with body armor and a chest emblem / helmet for the fascist look. Maybe a reflective helmet to look even more intimidating.
Or maybe it's multiple people who have adopted the identity. Either way, if someone just walked up to an SJW and disintegrated him / her / xer, I'd probably cheer.
Given that his iconic weapon kills almost instantly, I'd say he's a bit fucking dark for someone like Ms. Marvel to fight. Maybe Daredevil.

We did have a Modern Foolkiller, in the form of Max Bemis' Foolkiller series. It was okay, but if you liked this thread's storytime, don't read the Bemis series. I can't really fault Bemis for writing Kurt Gerhardt the way he did because Bendis and Way fucked up the character.

Then he was part of The Hood's crowd, which also makes no sense.

I'm sure I can think of white or white-ethnic heroes fighting minority villains if I give it some thought. Maybe even a racist minority. (Daredevil fighting the Hand, for instance.) I've also noticed that after the 00's were filled with more realistic gangs that are all of one race or ethnicity, in the last few years we've started to see a return to ethnically diverse street gangs of the sort we see in Foolkiller and lots of 70s-90s comics.

I'm not reading much nuMarvel either. Only minority villains that comes to mind right now is General Fortean in Immortal Hulk, and that new female Sinister Six in Amazing Spider-man.
But those along with Captain America are the only things I'm picking up monthly right now, so maybe some more avid readers could point out more.

I throughly enjoyed Bemis' run without knowing anything about the characters, but now that I've read this, I can't help but think he did my man Kurt dirty.
OP, would you consider storytiming that next? I'd like to reread it now that I've read this, and see how it holds up in comparison.

I'd say yeah, but at least he kind of remembered some things. I don't know how closely he followed Gerber's series but keep in mind he also had to take into account Bendis' and Way's takes on the character.
