He was hired by Disney in January so I'd expect this show is still a ways out, don't know if it was greenlit with non-final designs before that point or if the show was visually developed entirely within the last 7 months but I doubt they're too far down the line as far as having episodes boarded and sent off to Korea, these things take a bit to polish and get executives to sign off on so odds are Disney made up their mind about this show fairly recently and just decided the concept was already solid and it was a good week for some free press.
It sounds like Craig McCracken's new show has one (though there's not many details on that yet), there's also apparently a ton of shows in production at Netflix and CN that haven't been properly announced yet. Disney however has definitely been leaning into female protags ever since they brought animation back to the main network (with the exception of Big City Greens, though that was originally intended for DXD) but that's always how Disney Channel's audience has leaned. I'm not going to complain about it though

Execs don't want theme park tie-ins for some reason. There's art for a cancelled Captain EO reboot and a rejected concept for a cartoon about the little guys turning popcorn in the popcorn machines at Disneyland floating around out there as well.
This was a promising take on the IP but I'd overall rather have something original, especially from Disney right now. Because whenever they have a reboot or remake that's successful they take it as a sign to make more, and even if they end up making some good ones on occasion I'd still rather them swing for the fences on new shit instead of ideas we've seen before
