I guess Adira's sword was made specially not just from normal black rock. The blade comes from a blast where King Edmund attempted to grab and destroy the moonstone, so the material of the shadow blade may have enchanted property so it is able to slice the black rock. The reason of Cass take the sword could be she sees the sword is a threat to break her defensive armor.

Adira probably tries to kill her with it, hopefully she kills her in return then takes the sword.

We're basically just calling Zhan Tiri that out of deference to the show itself, right? I mean, by every observable measure, he's much more than just some wizard/sorcerer.
