She's trying to emulate an erratic shift back and forth like you'd see in a psychological horror movie or the like. The problem is that the crazy random shit isn't well established and isn't given enough nuance to matter or help the reader bridge the gaps, and the subject matter itself is being written in a fairly shallow way, and the core conceit of the book is so flawed it makes the metaphor function worse than simply depicting real life.
Or, TL;DR, it's someone with nothing to say trying to express an undercooked idea in an intelligent way and failing.
Sequences like this make me angry, because this approach could absolutely work for a satirical book about how women are made to feel about themselves in modern society. Cain's just too far up her own ass to organize it all and either keep the premise or parts of the execution simple.

That's a really dumb way to look at it, user. The writer is trying to say this is a complicated situation where institutionalized standards are set up to harm women but there are men who have the best interests for women in mind (like their children) but are also influenced by the society around them. That it isn't pro-girl anti-boy, but "society is fucked up and is strangling us." But, again, she doesn't have anything of depth to say so it all comes out a jumbled fucking mess. We're six issues deep and we've had maybe two issues worth of story content strung together with a ton of empty sentences and repetition.
But the world is written as if it's systematic and innate to the point where people think it's normal. Maybe the problem I'm having is because she hasn't been nuanced at all and I find it jarring to the rest of the book.

Bingo. It's trying to be lofty and experimental while lacking the necessary depth, complexity and content. It's padded to fuck with creative infographics and fake ads and weird pinups when what it really needs is a deep, deep, deep dive into the characters and their lives. Notice how it took seven issues to even establish the basics of who the mom is, and even then through just showing us words in an odd way rather than her actual actions? This is shit that should have been in issue 2.
If she really wanted to emphasize how it infects every single aspect of life, she could have these ads on books in the background or that characters are reading, or even just have a page that's a collage of dozens of them. It just takes away precious page space from the characters.
She could also make them feel like they belong in the universe instead of the goddamn real world. I get what she's trying to do but it just doesn't work.

Just a reminder; she made this comic exclusively to make men mad. Then, when it dropped, she got mad that not enough people got angry, or even said anything about it. Us enjoying it in this way is both the highest praise and the worst insult we can give her.
actually has a strong grasp on a lot of the necessary elements to write a good comic, but she's not able to properly organize her ideas and separate her "TAKE THAT"s from her story outline. If she was able to take a step back, chill out, and reassess what elements go where and why, she could reorganize her writing in such a way that it actually functions while still making those digs. There'd be way less people talking shit about her if she could just do that, because the core of what she tries to write tends to be decent and fairly creative.

No, she's a kinda schizo mom who wants to tackle sexism but can't collect her thoughts and keeps embarrassing herself with output that's a mix of a YA novel and those sassy Hallmark cards.
You can't just keep making entire issues in-universe reading material if you want monthly sales and discussion. This is the kind of stuff you put in the TPB later.
