Ed wood of animation

So who’s the Ed wood of animation?
By that, I mean low quality, but persistently passionate and soulful

90s Don Bluth? It's hard to find an Ed Wood of cartoons because it's a lot easier to recruit some hasbeen actors to act out your stupid B-movie than it is to hire dozens of animators to draw thousands of frames of your stupid B-movie.

Chuck Jones

Larry Kasanoff

Was Ed's problem lack of talent or lack of resources? Plan 9 was considered low budget in the fucking 50s so by today's standards it would be cheap for a Youtube video. He did write some cringeworthy scripts but maybe a good editor would've helped

Bakshi you moron

Most of the youtube animators.

Both. Wood had no understanding of production values and never fought to make his movies look better. Maybe more money could have helped, but just look at the scenes where it's only characters talking to each other and you can tell he simply wasn't a good director.

But nobody makes fun of Bakshi movies.

The thing was he worked super fast and super cheap. He almost never took a second take of anything.

Very much both.

No Chuck is much better then that.
I say Glen Kennedy, he was sloppy and low quality but he was persistently passionate and soulful in his work as John K was nothing but Peter Pan syndrome.

what are you talking about

3lamestudio

Ed00chan

bakshi

Literally, who?

Because film was not cheap so he literally couldn't afford to.

So forget people
What about individual animations that are low quality, but soulful?

We sure as shit make fun of his shorts. This thing was fucking awful.

Maybe it was awful because CN edited it for content.

Gene Deitch. I mean, his Tom & Jerry shorts were pretty janky.

They were still leagues better than Chuck Jones' version.

True.

Fucking this. Bakshi is good and loves animation but his scope always outpaces his vision, so he uses a bunch of techniques to barrel through that don't necessarily work.

Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer for the first two seasons of VB

Copying your own animation cycles isn't "soulful" and John K is a hundred times better.

You right. Gene's T&J isn't Sam Singer levels of awful. But the slapstick in his shorts felt a bit off. :S
