This is- Moore and O'Neill's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Chronological Storytime Thread #3
Like I said before, I originally planned to take out the material from this and spread it around too...but stuff like the notes in the margins and the fact that characters read it meant it made more sense to keep it all together.
Including 1984 in the context of the LoEG REALLY doesn't work. It completely misses a lot of the points and themes of the novel. Having the Big Brother regime collapse after less than a decade, having it be limited only to Britain, without there seemingly being any war with Eurasia or Eastasia, and with London being completely back to normal afterwards... It's just a reference for the sake of a reference, it doesn't work.
Here's another reference for the sake of a reference that completely misses the point. Don Quixote is a crazy old man who after reading too many chivalry books wandered around La Mancha believing he was a knight errant and doing stupid shit until he finally realized how crazy he was. Making him an actual adventurer COMPLETELY MISSES THE POINT.
