I didn't care to stick around to watch the final seasons of shows I knew were cancelled (Jessica Jones) or to watch a third season of a show that treaded zero new ground during season two (Stranger Things)

Hulu doesn't have the Disney "brand" associated with it. Disney+ is a brand new thing that gets people excited and tells them immediately what they're getting (Disney properties). It makes more sense to get people excited in a new service than trying to win them over on a service they already don't like.

This is the same thing that happens with MMOs. MMOs may improve a lot down the line but people will still hold their terrible initial impressions from launch. Easier to be more excited about a new promising MMO than one they already tried and judged as shitty.

Netflixes case is unique, because their original programming is an example of a good idea gone sour. They have the money to create content and they have the ability to "go there" with media content that most other producers would shy away from but we haven't seen much gold emerge from what could be a very lucrative opportunity for them.

Look at the tech industry for example. There's a big push for "women in tech". The tech companies try to downplay the racial disparity because they have a vested interest in importing in a lot of Indian workers. So racial disparity is often ignored in favor of gender disparity. Ehhh probably not, depending on what their arguments are. Superman being black and from a small town does fundamentally change the character.

This is different from the hysterics about... say... L being black. He was raised by a secret organization or something, so making him black has no impact on the story. Likewise, making characters in She-Ra gay and various races has no impact on the story because there's no canonical racism or homophobia in Etheria, so they're all just people.
