So Batman Beyond just got announced for Bluray and HD platforms at SDCC. Full remaster like BTAS last year.

Don't like the pop figure.
Hope they do a standard edition like they did with Batman TAS and put it in a standard case.
Cool
When do pre orders start
>Full remaster like BTAS last year.
That's concerning. The Batman TAS blu rays used the film elements and not the broadcast masters (which are on video) so all of the shadows were missing the color balancing was absent (so everything was super clean and bright). All the atmosphere that was deliberately added for the broadcast mastering was absent in the blu ray and the whole thing looked sterile and gaudy.
BUT I'M SURE THEY'LL GET IT RIGHT THIS TIME!

Thought it would be Superman TAS next but I welcome the DCAU getting one step closer to being fully in HD.
>funko

How much of that was just NTSC video being shitty like always though?
It's not a full remaster, 18 episodes are gonna be left as-is.
>stop liking things i dont like
>Of the 52 Beyond episodes, 41 have been fully remastered from the original 35mm film, removing film grain for better color, removing dust and dirt and enhancing the resolution.
The 11 other episodes have been damaged over time, meaning they have been 'Smart Rezzed', resulting in a better image than the original, but not as advanced as the fully remastered episodes. Those 11 episodes are: “Eyewitness,” “Final Cut,” “The Last Resort,” “Armory,” “Sneak Peek,” “The Eggbaby,” “Zeta,” “Plague,” “April Moon,” “Sentries of the Lost Cosmos” and “Speak No Evil.”
>How much of that was just NTSC video being shitty like always though?
Here's a comparison video:
Took a screenshot of the most glaring example. There are a LOT of lines and details that you weren't meant to see in the production elements that were deliberately covered in shadow or hidden with brightness/color balancing in the broadcast video masters. It's actually kinda cool to watch Batman TAS "with the lights on" in a way, but it isn't how the show was meant to be seen and much of the tone is erased as a consequence.
Interesting. Aren't most of those episodes from when the show went fully digital though? Interesting that some episodes like "Out of the Past" aren't on that list.
I can get the whole thing for 25 bucks on amazon right now why would I need this?

Video comparison.
The show went fully digital with eggbaby.
It's possible they did filmouts to 35mm for storage purposes and that degraded. Or the episodes were actually mixes of both cell and digital and the quality leaps would be jarring.
All pure speculation on my part.
God, what is wrong with the BlueRay?
Actually, now that I think about it further, it's likely that digital episodes were rendered at 480p and they didn't start considering higher resolutions until the first season of Justice League.
I’m actually one of the few people who like Pops here, and I don’t like them in these packages where it’s the defining feature and you can’t display the dvd set without it
Uhhhh not sure about this one fellas
Most likely, same reason most digital anime from the early 2000s are locked at 480p and can never be remastered, only slightly upscaled
couldnt you just take it out of the box?
>not going chronologically and doing Superman.
Kinda disappointed. Superman TAS has been getting a lot of rightful praise after all the failures like MOS and Returns.
I know BTAS has better single eps but I stand by STAS having a better overall quality
>God, what is wrong with the BlueRay?
What this user said: They used the original film elements as source for the blu ray. However, the BROADCAST masters were done on video. The film elements aren't the completed version of the show; the broadcast masters are. They have all the final effects and proper color balancing that the film elements do not. So the blu rays look wrong.
Rhino had the same problem with their original DVD sets of Transformers in the early 2000s. They used the original film prints for masters, unaware that a TON of animation and sound errors had been fixed for the broadcast masters. Hence the DVDs had a crapload of additional, ridiculous animation and audio errors that were never present in any released version of the series before.
It's pure numbers and money talks.
Supes just isn't as popular and releasing it first might have tanked Beyond from getting a shot. Better to play it safe, play the waiting game, and insure everything gets put out in HD eventually.
>Superman TAS has been getting a lot of rightful praise after all the failures like MOS and Returns.
It earns it in spades. It's probably the best interpretation since the Donner films. Hell, I'd argue that Supes is a FAR more balanced and fleshed out character in TAS than the Christopher Reeve movies.
>2019 release
>The actual year Bruce had his last night out as Batman during the Rebith opener.
Pottery.
nah mate, beyond is always 50 years from now
I'm fairly certain that fans were able to figure out dates based upon the near apocalypse of 09 being mentioned.
Beyond takes place in 2039 and the last night out opener with Bruce is in 2019.
Cool sdcc2019 stuff
This would actually look better in blu ray
I binged all of it in a few days (like the first 28) and I was surprised at how much I liked it. Chang is a good artist and it was pretty great seeing Robin Beyond. Always wanted that for Matt as a kid.
Here's something I never got: Let's use your dates. Bruce wears the new suit out in 2019, the incident happens, he retires. The rest of the series is 2039.
Shouldn't the suit be a ridiculously outdated piece of shit? Even if it was beyond cutting-edge in 2019, it would be a joke 20 years later. Imagine someone using even the best, top of the line stuff available in 1999 today.
Bruce is basically a hermit at this point and likely doesn't have much knowledge of current news outside of world events and shit he would have been reading up on if he were still Batman still. I don't think it's that unreasonable that he would be wearing fashion that out of date
>near apocalypse of 09
On a related note, with the DTV line finally making DCAU films now, do you think we'll ever getting a film for those events?
>ruining the aesthetic of your Blu-rays with that funko pop trash
>Funko Pop
Please delete so I can save 10 bucks or so
Where's my Superman TAS Blu-ray?
>removing film grain
Fucking why? That's the Disney method of """restoration""". Film is fucking SUPPOSED to have grain on it. Fucking heathens.
>There are a LOT of lines and details that you weren't meant to see
Then why even draw them?
You're nitpicking, this is fine.
Fuck. Yes.
They should have gone all out for this release and included a CHAINSAW KNEES funko instead
What is with all the "which side is the remaster?" comments?
Do a lot of people have bad vision but are clueless about it?
Soon I will do my complete DCAU batman marathon
>funko pop
The only reason I don’t like getting blu rays for shoes like these is because I’d rather get them on DVD so I can watch them in there original aspect ratio on my tube tv.
It’s pretty much the DS9 to BTASs TNG
It's the same aspect ratio...
Neat, I was just thinking about Batman Beyond
When are we getting a game
I just mean it’s harder hooking a blind ray up to my tube tv
>tube tv
Why are you even still using this?
I hope his answer is playing pre-HD video games, because there's no other excuse to still be using a CRT.
That's a damn shame, they have completely fucked the lighting and atmosphere. I was just starting to get excited for this too.
Why are people this stupid?
This is good. I was thinking earlier about picking the show up.
Nothing wrong with using the original film elements over the broadcast master, considering the broadcast master probably looks like shit now. The issue is their being lazy. But the entire Blu-ray doesn't look as bad as that shit. It varies. Some of the shadows are still there
>108787459
Even criterion removes some grain. It's all about how well it's done. Some filmstock can be excessively grainy
Yeah playing old games and watching old shows, what else?
More I look at this, I change my mind that they didn't fix the lighting or add shadows out of laziness. I think this is revisionism, probably to make them look more modern and consistent.
I think part of it has to do with how the game industry warped the understanding of remasters.
Yeesh. I appreciate the extra crispness in the picture, but losing all the shadows in Batman TAS is a big fucking drawback.
10$ says this is as overpriced ad the DVD collector
