Any student of animation should know racist iconography when they see it, should be familiar with figures like these from old cartoons where racial caricature was the entire gag. You can't make a black skinned, top heavy figure with big white lips and not know what it looks like, unless you're so poorly educated and culturally illiterate as to have never been exposed to this sort of thing, which I guess isn't too outrageous a possibility for the Steven Universe crew
