Why are some comicbook writers so lazy? nerds used to be smart and care, it seems like most mainstream writers now only care about pop shit, no sci fi, no history, no science, no literature, just comics, cartoons and movies. Most big writers now are not only dumb, but also extremely lazy, but it seems like the American public doesn't care maybe they are dumb too?
Why are some comicbook writers so lazy? nerds used to be smart and care...
Most comicbook writers are shit in every respect.
Also the majority of writers in all things are complete rubbish when it comes to measurements or scaling, they aren't numbers people.
cause most writers are former fanboys/fangirls who got into comic writing solely because they wanted to write their faves and they can't draw
I don't know what you mean OP.
Check out this page where some of the world's smartest people praise each other for multiplying by minus 1.
Comics writing is the bottom of the barrel tier of writing jobs, especially nowadays where the only hiring criteria is "not a heterosexual white male"
>nerds used to be smart and care
>Why does Spider-Man crawl?
>Dunno man, magnets or some shit.
you just can't remember the bad ones, underage.
Pretty much this. When fans take over, they basically get laissez faire to publish their fanfiction, so we get stories that fail as stories and are just excuses to either reference past writers or change things. The ability to tell good stand-alone stories is arguably one of the reasons for the downfall of comics.
Of course, bringing in new blood from other mediums doesn't always help either, as the ''novelist turned comics writer' trend proved, which had 'real' writers turning out even worse schlock than most fanboy writers.
I'm uncertain what a comfortable middle ground could be though...
I dont geddit
Was the writer trying to do his daughter's homework thru floppies?
Don't worry, most people don't. Math is for turbo spergs who fap to imaginary numbers.
>Only comics writers have this problem!
Wow, good thing movies, TV, and literature haven't been infested like... oh wait.
>I'm uncertain what a comfortable middle ground could be though...
This is slightly less embarrasing than Dr manhattan comparing magic to computer programs cuz computers are Science.
My post literally mentions writers in general you big baby.
>nerds used to be smart and care
This has NEVER applied to comic books.
What is your pic trying to convey? What's lazy about it?
Jack Davis and John Severin did heavy research for their war comics at EC to make things as accurate as possible (especially stories with period settings). Julius Schwartz also mandated that even some of the dumbest sci-fi stories include some genuine scientific principle, like how people could be harmed by convection, cold could cause mirages or how getting shot would put you in a hospital even with a bullet-proof vest.
Still, your point stands.
>nerds used to be smart and care
Not all comic book writers are nerds, a lot are geeks.
Yeah, this is the problem, they are mostly comic/pop culture geeks, not actual nerds.
t. zoomer
This is so absurdly easy that it must be taking as a joke
A 10th grader taking precalculus should be able to solve this.
If they tried to portrayed them as smart they failed
Suck my
>13:22:42
If imaginary numbers weren't developed and understood by turbo nerds like you said there wouldn't be any video games or special effects that I am sure you worship
Could you explain what you are complaining about, for those of us who aren't faggot Europoors?
Magic is science that hasn't been understood yet.
Thing is, most actual nerds are shit at writing too, because they aren't really interesting about structuring a story or developing characters, they just write lore for the sake of it because their mind is built around generalizing.
>interesting
Interested*
Thinking that the collapse of the EU will lead to Russia invading is as retarded as thinking that gay marriage will lead to Nazis riding on dinosaurs.
Johns confused the European Union and NATO. And apparently believed Poland was allied with the west during the cold war. Johns is a special kind of idiot.
The people who grew up on shit like manga and don't give a fuck about Superhero canon.
>A 10th grader taking precalculus should be able to solve this.
Nigga a 7th grader taking algebra should be able to solve this
They're simplifying an equation.
It's supposed to be that they're smart because they're doing it without looking at it or stopping at all, they're just saying it.
Music, visual art, film, novels, videogames, etc. ALL diverged into "dumbed down for the mainstream audience" and "sophisticated and/or experimental indie". It's not a new phenomenon, and it's not unique to comics.
To be fair, early comics had a lot of silly phony/fake science. How many modern superheroes and villains get their superpowers from "strange radiations" or metals that used to magically empower everyone in the golden and silver ages?
I hope you aren't dumb enough to think that's a legitimate criticism of a fictional story.
>nerds used to be smart and care
That was never true.
>what is an alternate universe
Alternative history you jackass. Explain me how the existence of Manhattan accelerated the expansion of nato, and how in a world where the soviet union still remains stronf in 1992 poland is not longer a satellite state. You are retarded.
If they had any aptitudes for history, science or literature they wouldn't be comicbook writers in the first place
>maybe they are dumb too?
Nigga, after Black Panther's release americans were asking if Wakanda was real
You completely changed the subject, retard.
>Explain me how the existence of Manhattan accelerated the expansion of nato, and how in a world where the soviet union still remains stronf in 1992 poland is not longer a satellite state.
Explain to me how this has anything to do with the post you're responding to, sperg.
>why would having a living god who can do whatever he wants who has won wars for your side before cause your military orginization to expand over others
huh I just can't figure it out
The european union isnt a military organization you absolute moron, thats otan. Just like johns you are confusing the 2.
>otan
Ya te pille
>laissez faire
did you mean carte blanche
Who took precalc in 10th grade?? Only the hardworking super studious dudes in ny high school took it that early, and usually by 10th grade itd be trig
Where you one of those big brain students user
How would you even say those out loud?
In Doomsday Clock the USSR collapsed before 1992
aight, what comic is this?
>Pakistanian
oh lord
Couldn't...couldn't the writer just have them just do fake math and if anybody asks just go 'it's so advanced it's over our heads' I mean technobabble works so why not that?
I'd say it does. While creators in the past weren't formally educated, they had life experiences and passions and even other careers outside of comics that informed their art. Claremont, Roy Thomas and Don McGregor at least read books and poetry and tried to channel that into their writing.
By contrast, Marvel nowadays is making some mega-event about what they know about, which as far as I can tell is mostly about getting assblasted on social media and cathartically venting their beta rage on them..
I said it a few threads ago and I'll say it again.
Are you really willing to give 110% when you get paid for shit, have Didio breathing down your neck to kill off your cast because 'muh silver age', and anything you accomplish will be undone by Bendis in five weeks?
You gonna put in time to research history and science for accuracy for that?
how would you go about making comics less lazy? what would it take to establish that an author is putting out quality writing?
I think Al Ewing is doing it well right now with immortal hulk. lots of narration is flavored with mythology and philosophy and it serves to help provide a contrast against the classic established dichotomy between banner and the hulk.
So whats the basic take away from all this? Comics are always going to be bottom of the barrel because if the best people the medium attracts are shit?
probably that big publishers should work to find good talent and try harder to develop what talent they are able to find.
from there, they should try to build teams that can really create great books that are worth more than reading. they need to be making books that are worth talking about.
>try to show supergeniuses simplifying a basic algebra expression
>they make no leaps of mental math, instead explicitly stating each intervening step
>ends with "-7+26i" instead of "26i-7"
This makes me angry
Again lore is more of a geek & pop culture thing.
A nerd is someone who spends a ton of time studying a practical real-world subject like science, history, and literature like OP said.
>most mainstream writers now only care about pop shit, no sci fi, no history, no science, no literature, just comics, cartoons and movies
Postmodernism is a big part of it. A lot of media is overreliant on references to other media, and in turn people imitate that because they see so much of it, and the vicious cycle continues.
And since that's been so profitable, there isn't much market demand for writers who think outside the box.
What are you talking about? You cite absolutely no examples and expect everyone to just agree with you.
Comics incorporate all sorts of things in order to hit more demographics.
Eh. I'll give it a pass. If you're trying to graph imaginary numbers for some fucking reason it's easier to put the imaginary part after the real part, since most people think in terms of x then y.
Manga does it creating a competitive environment where only the strongest survive. This method doesnt quite work for comic unless you rework the whole system though
>they aren't numbers people
There's a difference between doing calculus problems for fun and just being such a fucking retard you think the EU and NATO are what's stopping Russia and not the fact that Russia is a run-down shithole joke-state that even Poland could probably defeat on their own.
superman/wonder woman annual 2
Pakistanipaniskanpikastan.
France and United Kingdom have nuclear weapons
Russia has more, and more land as well
>Why are some comicbook writers so lazy
Because some portion of humanity is lazy?
...
This is a /pol/ website.
Because what you consider to be nerds have been replaced by liberals who LARP as nerds because it became popular to do so.
And as mentioned, no straight white men = no quality.
>a named polfag
He's not wrong.
That's fine and dandy user, but you probably never witnessed EFG or old Yea Forums. I have. Welcome, newfriend. Enjoy your stay.
>Russia is threatening to enter Poland
Yes yes WW2 bogeyman, but Poles are Slavs and piss off the rest of Europe with how Russia-like they are
Poland was a satellite country, that would be allied with Russia if doomsday clock made any sense.
modern writers aren't nerds. They are people who majored in women's studies and only got writing jobs due to sjw twitter outrage about how "shockingly white and male" comics are
Allied is a strong word
The Slavs are a contentious people
Russia and Ukraine are usually the ones shitting on each other, but no one likes Poland either which is why they buddied up with the EU in the first place
Poland Joined the european union in 2004 and nato in 99, johns alternative history makes no sense. The guy is just dumb.
