The whole reason DC wouldn't let them be married is because they think that once a couple is married there is no more drama to be had.

KSD is writing this story to try and show editorial that they can be married but still have drama and relationship issues. Marriage isn't even in her power.

Abnett wanted to get them married but DC said no and KSD is trying to convince them again but they're still saying no.

I disagree about it being forced but I admit I'm sick of the thrones shit as well but this is just where we are after Abnett made Mera queen. Besides the next arc is gonna have Aqualad and Manta and more focus on Amnesty Bay so hopefully it won't be a retread of the same plots again.
