>it's an 'the mother and daughter are hyper competent and smart and the father and son are absolute morons' show
Why does this exist?
It's an 'the mother and daughter are hyper competent and smart and the father and son are absolute morons' show

You can just say Amazing World of Gumball
I miss it already...
But Gumball knows how to be a sarcastic smartass and that's all that matters
>>it's an 'the mother and daughter are hyper competent and smart and the father and son are absolute morons' show
It used to be a subversive idea which is probably why it caught on.
How'd the boys vs girls idea catch on?
>Why does this exist?
Flanderization. Recent shows like The Amazing World of Gumball copied The Simpsons, which copied The Flintstones, which copied the character dynamics of The Honeymooners, where the character dynamic of "the wife is smart, but the husband is stupid" was the joke. And the writers, being the lazy hacks they are simply had brothers and sisters mimicking the same character dynamic as the parents, where Bart/Gumball is the dumb husband and Lisa/Anais is the smart wife.
The problem with repeating the same joke for 60+ years is it stops being a joke and starts being the norm and stops being funny. If you really want to see the roles reversed, go back a little further to I Love Lucy. Or better yet, try some originality.
Thanks user
Because women being smart is a joke.
>How'd the boys vs girls idea catch on?
Women's rights movement and the advent of television.
More like male guilt complex when writing women. All of the biggest offenders of this trope come from male writers not women.
Makes sense.
I'm a firm believer that if you have a comedy show and somebody is never the butt of a joke or the target of slapstick, that character isn't doing their job. Nobody likes a Tweety.
Or Rick and Morty
>Is everyone in your family an idiot?
>Me and my dad for sure
>Implying Ricky wasn't fucking retarded
Far more often than not the show was about Lucy and her shenanigans behind Ricky's back. Other shows generally follow a similar formula with the gender roles reversed, but the difference in intelligence got greatly exaggerated over time. The difference in intelligence in the modern flanderized shows occasionally gets deflated to make the women occasionally as stupid as the men to keep them from being seen as completely unlikable and humorless.
this trope goes all the way back to greek literature.
>Nobody likes a Tweety
thousands of mexicans with airbrushed t shirts disagree
>full cast is almost all males
>the one female character is a bitchy crank
>mother and daughter are the least interesting characters because of this
It works out in the end.
For the same reasons that “Florida man” is a meme and “Florida woman” isn’t.
Also based trips.
You know, in this day and age of furries and comicon I feel this wouldn't phase me anymore. I would think oh someone is getting into costume. Ok whatever.
to make women more look competent and strong compared to the father.
Also in comedy women are often portrayed as the wet blanket rather than the crazy one with the other goofs of the family. You see it once in a while but only today have we gotten a cartoon character that is a female bart simpson that is in bobs burgers.
It's a deconstruction of the old Father Knows Best shows that dominated American television from it's founding up until the Simpsons destroyed it.
You know its weird though the I love Lucy type of humor was first pioneered by a female and men began emulating it. You will be press hard to find mordern young women appreciating that form of comedy because they think the slapstick is abusive.
>can't figure it out
Gonna take a wild guess and say your someones son?
what about the honeymooners? Sanford and Son? Married with Children. Homer first season was a lot smarter than now. The had a special where that quality was brought up; about how the writers would make homer stupider each new season.
women aren't allowed to be funny, flawed and interesting, silly. next you'll be suggesting we actually think about hiring female writers
>You will be press hard to find mordern young women appreciating that form of comedy
They're women, who cares what they think?
I still do. Which is why it hurts everytime they accuse me of something.
BECAUSE OF THE HONEYMOONERS
STOP MAKING THIS THREAD
Burns and Allen was lifetimes better than the Honeymooners Prove me wrong.
