Am I the only one who strongly prefers how the majority of silver age comics were drawn and colored compared to the mishmash of styles out there today?

Darn right

Id say the art was better at telling a story back then at the very least.

Depends on the comic. I like how colourful and simple and flat the colours are back then, and sometimes that the digital colouring today I really dislike . But when you exam in the medium is a whole colour and has gotten a lot better. There were no colourists or colours back then it looked as good as the stuff by Francesca Francavilla, or Matt Hollinsworth for example. Now this has to do with technology, if they have the technology to do more complex colours back then you’re damn right they would’ve. It wasn’t a stylistic choice it was because of the limits of the technology of the time.

But yes OP I like old comics coloring, I would just never say something as silly as they were the best of all time I read way too many comics to think that

The paper was matte back then. the colors looked so much nicer because there wasnt a sheen to the pages.

The art was honestly terrible back then and the lack of diversity in art styles is painful. But by god was stuff like batman and superman better then. I wonder were other heroes the same back then, anyone got recs?

Most of DC's interiors have been matte for a while.

Flat colors in a limited palette is the shit
Fuck modern colorists for making everything in gradients

>Fuck modern colorists for making everything in gradients
God I hate modern coloring

You are definitely not alone, the covers in the Silver Age jumped right off the stands.

Nope. Not only do I prefer the style, but the design was better back then too.

alex ross is quite simply the GOAT and way too good for comics

>how the majority of silver age comics were drawn and colored

You mean "correctly, with accurate technical aspects"?

I definitely prefer the more flat style of coloring. Everything felt more vibrant and colorful to me.

As much as I like Ross I still prefer the original

Liar. Four-toed Hulk is ridiculous looking

Always enjoy your posts, collagefag

Completely agree. Nothing killed comics books more than digital gradient coloring. Nothing.

The large majority of these are from the Bronze Age

Thanks

Hmm...now that you mention it my taste does seem to run closer to the Bronze Age doesn’t it? Fair enough, Bronze Age it is for me then.

Uh oh. I’m going to need to come up new material sooner or later. Maybe I’ll try to do a pure silver age collage.

If you run out of ideas you can always do character specific covers

I have a few of those
