Dreamworks needed to give Netflix another show for the deal they signed with them, and after seeing the fandom reception for Voltron they decided to go all in with the corporate "How do you do, fellow kids?" shallow 'woke' stuff that is all the rage in a tiny subsection of the internet, since its being released completely on Netflix they had hope it would become a SU underground hit. But of course they weren't going all in yet, so they released a half a season for season 1 with a very limited animation budget, and decided to wait and see.
Then come season 2 they decided "You know what? Half of that half a season is fine, they don't need any more than that."

Go to the nearest liquidation store and grab a shitload of 90 percent off lions, maybe that'll be a clue. Why do you think they cut the seasons in half? Same reason Voltron's seasons look like a damn roller coaster, they're padding it out to milk their money's worth out of a flop because they can't do anything else with it. It's not like it'll be cheaper to drop it all at once, or they'll lose less money, why would it? The cost of the episodes is the same, if not already smaller than season 1.
