Yea Forums is fucking trash man. Thinking about making the move to reddit (except for /shelf/)
Here have my usual bump. Nothing new. Read up to vol 2 of Sunstone, pretty good. Nice wall.
Someone fucking stole an Amazon order out of my letter box yesterday.
I mean ultimately the joke's on them since was just Tom Peyer's Quicksilver solo run from the late '90s, but still,
Anyone got any clue when the second printing of Berserk vol 2 drops?
it's still in print. why are u asking?
Stuff I got this week for my birthday
Did you have a good day?
And muh /shelf/
Yeah, it was pretty chill.
I want to get into usagi but that volume 2 oop it's holding me back
The omni, should have mentioned that.
.. which is also in print
Thanks man, I'm pretty proud of my come up on the 70's All Star Comics reprint I have framed. 15 bucks on Craigslist
Huh, everywhere I checked yesterday was sold out or didn't get it yet.
Very nice
Latest. Picked up a bunch of Garo issues. Went through some old comics that I gave to my sister to sell to steal back some stuff. I only took some cheap stuff. Thought about taking back Superman vs Muhammad Ali, Spider-Man 121, and some oversized Marvel and DC issues, but I felt bad.
My dog also ate my copy of Knife Crimes. Not happy about that one.
I had a few of those Famous 1st Editions as well. All-Star Comics, Batman, Whiz Comics, Flash Comics, and Wonder Woman. Really cool reprints.
Oh good, I was hoping you guys would be around.
Two of five packages came in today. I've still got a couple of Goon libraries, Taniguchi's The Walking Man, and Gianni's Monstermen and other Stories coming.
I dropped wanting to learn Japanese after I starting falling out of video games, but getting into manga has made me want to learn more than ever. Seeing stuff like those Garos really has me yearning.
I hit a used bookstore over the weekend, specifically looking for printings of Vertigo stuff that will never, ever be reprinted.
I found
>Enigma
Enigma was lasted printed four years ago. It's been pulled from comixology, so Milligan probably has the full rights to it again. He'll probably try to get it printed again
>Nevada
By Steve Gerber. It's honestly shit, but is an ancient printing, from back in 1999 with the "Vertigo/DC Comics" logo on the spine. Since he's dead, there's almost a 100% chance that it will never be printed again
>Chiaroscuro - The Private Lives of Leonardo da Vinci
I haven't read this yet, but it's an early Vertigo miniseries (1995). Ten issues, last reprinted in 2004.
I also bought The Filth to wrap up the Invisibles-related trades, but that would probably get printings in the future.
Been doing a lot of rearranging/cleaning this weekend and week, been going through a lot of my storage stuff and finding old stuff, so going to be putting up more statues/art over the next week too. But these are my updated shelves.
>reddit
don't, as bad as it is here at least people have taste. There you have to like the same shit as everyone else. it's garbage
and just my latest, she seems to be trapped in my phone though. How do I get her out? She says she pregnant too!
damn, better find some way of protecting it, would suck to have something expensive stolen.
I know I’m retarded but I just realized that Terry is wearing an Alien Dada suit from the Ultraman series.
What are those Giant books? Never heard of them. Unless they're those collection books I hear are at Walmart.
Thank you.
They are indeed the Walmart Giants. I only collect the Superman ones because it has the Loeb Superman/Batman run and Johns GL collected through it and King's Superman is leagues better than Bendis' Batman even though it's still lackluster. Kubert art is good, as is Derringtons. I'm a Superfag and a Halfag at heart, so.
I liked Bendis Batman, honestly, I think he's starting to get his shit back together. He still has his classic Bendisisms but his storytelling has improved again.
Just got pic related, i read the first issue and enjoyed it. I'm also reading thrawn and it's been enjoyable.
Also, what are some good star wars comics? preferably about the empire set around the OT era.
Just read the first issue of this cause I kept seeing it at my LCS when I was looking for Sex Criminals. I like it, a nice crime noir setting of a former superhero in a city like Las Vegas only with more prostitution and stuff. Going to grab a trade next time I'm there.
Purchases this week. Got a few more coming over the next few days
what does Protector of the Green actually contain? The description is different everywhere

Starman: The Cosmic Omnibus Vol. 1
The classic superhero series Starman, starring a Gen-X superhero, returns in this massive omnibus hardcover edition by James Robinson (Batman: Face the Face) and Tony Harris (Ex Machina).
The classic superhero series Starman, starring a Gen-X superhero, returns in this massive omnibus hardcover edition by James Robinson (Batman: Face the Face) and Tony Harris (Ex Machina).
The superheroic legacy of Starman is renewed in these stories, in which Jack Knight--antiques collector and dealer--inherits the name and powers of his father's old Starman identity from his older brother, who has been assassinated. Reluctantly adjusting to his role, Jack reinvents the look of Starman, ditching the traditional red and green in favor of black leather and aviator goggles. But Jack has inherited more than a heroic identity from his brother...he's also gained a foe: the beautiful but mentally unbalanced Nash, daughter of the villain known as the Mist. Jack also must come to grips with the Shade, the morally ambiguous former villain who decides to become Jack's mentor.

If they bind it like they did the 4th World omnibus (without any misprinted pages of course) it'll be fine.
idk man, any omni over 700 pages is getting a bit much, 800 is pretty much the max I can enjoy. This probably also means the pages are going to be so thin it will be transparent.

Again, the 4th World omnibus is the same size and doesn't have that problem. The JSA omnis aren't much smaller and I never had any issues with them either.
Just let me have this dammit
I regret the Morrison Doom Patrol omnibus at times, and that's 300 fewer pages. I can't fathom this brick, regardless of binding.
Nee books from the last few months, give or take a few. Everything was bought second hand except Batman, Hungry Ghosts and Through the Woods.

I keep saying I'll update, but I haven't bought new trades in a month, but here's my shelf again. I need to read a lot, but I've been too depressed.
Not reading isn't going to make you any less depressed. Read more.
I recently read Un-men and early Vertigo was dope
its already been collected, this is bullshit, fuck DC
hows the poetry book!??
>its already been collected
Yeah I'm so fucking glad it's been collected in out-of-print books that cost hundreds of bucks on Amazon, that's so fucking good that they've been collected that way.
Throw a random thing on my shelf for me to read and I will, user.
>Mister Miracle by Steve Englehart and Steve Gerber
>New Gods by Gerry Conway
Not a DC regular but every since I caught wind of these two runs I've wanted to check them out, but unfortunately as we know, DC's reprinting habits are spotty.
I'm looking forward to buy those when they come out, and I hope there's an Omega Men collection sometime in the future too.
Summit of the Gods by Jiro Taniguchi.
Saga of the Swamp Thing by Alan Moore.
I said on my shelf, my friend.
You said "throw a random thing on my shelf", I thought you meant I should put something on that wasn't already there.
Read Usagi then.
Reposting the slight mess that is my shelf, while I wait for either this week or the next for my shipment of trades to make the long trip down here. Gonna have to move a lot of things around, or box some of the books I'm not gonna read or display anymore.
>and I hope there's an Omega Men collection sometime in the future too.
I think it's unlikely. The King series sold terribly, and they already have a cancelled attempt to omni it.
The Un-Men series from the mid 2000s was also a sequel to it, but be warned, what happens to those characters from the mini is super depressing.
DC usually puts out a couple books worth buying a year.

Can someone redpill me in on starman? Seems like A LOT of stuff jammed in for just one omnibus
Starman is probably the best series DC ever published, which is weird considering James Robinson never did anything else that was good.
It's about a guy who has to take up the family business of being a superhero, which he thinks is lame but the ends up liking it. He makes friends with the coolest character ever, The Shade, who is a villain but also an anti-hero but also just a good chap to spend time with.
The series is so well planned out that it foreshadows things and drops hints about what is to come all along the course of the earlier parts of the story and when it all comes together in the end it feels incredibly satisfying. Don't spoil yourself, just experience it as it happens. Totally worth it.
Some say it's one of the best runs in comic history.
you guys are crazy romanticizing this shit, its not that good
>I don't like so nobody else is allowed to either
Okay but I think it's the best and you can't name anything I think is better so what can you do?
It's a story about family and legacy. Lots of legacy, especially since there were a bunch of Starmen. Like the other user says, don't spoil it for yourself. There are some genuinely emotional parts throughout the series.
Now, I am going to spoil the first pages of the first issue.
Ted Knight was the golden age Starman. He fought with several other heroes in the 1940s, and became part of the JSA. He was sucked into a time bubble with many of them in the 1970s, so when he gets ejected in the 1990s, he isn't as old as some of the other heroes in the JSA (specifically, Wesley Dodds -- The Sandman).
He has two sons. David and Jack. Jack wants nothing to do with crime fighting, so he opens and antique shop and generally acts like a hipster.
David trains to take on the mantle of Starman, and then this happens.
>Archie Goodwin
Nice
>in times past
>times past
Nice.
I was on the Rebirth hype train pretty hard when I bought them. I mostly just wanted them for the collecting purposes seeing as how important a crossover like that should be to the comic industry and the art is fantastic especially for displaying, the lenticular being very dope.
I know it's not popular to be a fan of Doomsday Clock but it's honestly much better than a lot of crap happening in comics. I'll take Johns trying to be deep over Bendis taking a wrecking ball to established lore 9 times out of 10
How about taking a clever, fun and respectful way of exploring lore like Venditti's Hawkman?
Very well then, I'll check it out
Oh I love Venditti's Hawkman. Surprisingly way better than his GL run.
Now, your mileage may vary. The series was written as a love letter to DC's Golden Age characters, and was coming out at the same time as Sandman Mystery Theatre. This was part of the revival that led to the resurrection of JSA/Justice Society of America a few years later. A couple earlier attempts (two JSA minis/series) were successful, but Mike Carlin hated "old" heroes, so he canned the books.
Sandman Mystery Theatre and Starman were so paired well together (with the former set around 1940 at the start of the "mystery men's" careers), that Wagner and Robinson decided to do a crossover.
Now, SMT was a "Mature Readers" Vertigo title, so they couldn't do a direct crossover with a general audiences title. So instead, they got creative.
Sandman Mystery Theatre ran four issues (37-40) called "The Mist." They told the origin of the villain "The Mist," who would later become one of Ted Grant's recurring foes. This took place in 1940, and featured a young Ted. Ted and the Mist did not even interact at this time. The story ended with Wesley Dodds (the Sandman) recovering The Mist's Great War medal..
Meanwhile...
>All those reprints
Nice, If I hope hard enough, will we get one's for legion one day?
Meanwhile, Starman ran four issues (20-23) that were about Jack looking for The Mist's old war medals. He gets a tip that Wesley Dodds might have it, and works up the courage to meet him.
Guy Davis, the regular artist on SMT, did a few flashback pages for the Starman arc too.
Starman has a lot of flashback (Time's Past) issues, and they are fantastic for world building.
A set of pages like this was heart wrenching to me, but might have no effect on you if you haven't read SMT
Aren't the Superboy and the Legion of Superheroes books pretty new? Surely they'll keep going with that stuff?
Great book.
Robinsons magnum opus.
Judging a book by its cover: the thread.
all the LoSH reprints have stalled.
>Legionnaires (start of reboot) stalled after 2 volumes
>Legion of Abnett and Lanning stalled after 2 volumes
>Superboy and the LoSH stalled after 2 volumes (I think vol 2 might have actually collected all of the stuff named like that, but I would have to check)
>Five Years Later LoSH hardcover cancelled, and that was the only LoSH solicit in a year
Having a grandpa who got Alzheimers made seeing old Wesley pretty painful even without having read Mystery Theater.
What are you talking about, fool?
This is why we can't have nice things.
and then knowing that the 1998 JSA series opens with his funeral
Robinsons Starman, Ordways Shazam and Johns JSA were all great. I love that they tie into one another.
So with all these reprints, when is O'Neil's Question getting released with all the annuals and crossovers included?
Man, the timeline's actually starting to look good with Ostrander's Suicide Squad just getting fully collected... Nah, who am I kidding? DC even fucked up that Hitman reprint.
The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.
Picked up more Nam. Completion draws near
No way

Books with spines like that make me drool.
Nice.
Hello, i was wondering, does anyone here have any experience buying and collecting animation cels? I am trying to get a cel from mask of the phantasm, but i was wondering if you guys had any experience, and if so, what to look for and where to buy?
Those look fun.
Sammy Harkham, CF, Anna Haifisch, Lale Westvind, and the Trots and Bonnie stories.
ha, I have 250 trades now and have none of these, only interested in getting maybe Maus and Uzumaki (I have trouble getting into mangas). is the only answer for newbs to /shelf/
ya, that's why most of us have read 95% of the stuff on our shelf...idiot
that's fucking awesome...the picture is small though, what are the collections on the bottom for?
God forbid someone have a thread about comics on Yea Forums, right?
The first one is a Batman collection, ranging from Year One to just before Rebirth.
The multiverse looking ones are "special" books as part of the DC collection that's on the top shelf. The first few cover the various Crisis titles but then there's stuff like One Million, Earth One stuff and Solo.
The one that's sort of hidden to the side is Deadpool. Not the biggest DP fan but it looks like it collects almost every appearance.
I can take clearer pictures if needed?
please, I don't think I have seen those before
Finished catching up on One Piece.
I forgot how good Oda was at storytelling.
The Green Lantern books annoyingly skip a lot of Corps issues but they collect every book from 21 onwards
Not sure why it starts with Zero Year since that's more New 52 type continuity.
3/4
(end of spam)
The Marvel Collection group of books don't have the titles on the spines but most of these are either early Deadpool, Deadpool/Cable or that Deadpool trilogy that started with DP kills the MU.
I actually have experience buying animation cels. What kind of cel did you find? If you want one of a famous background or one with Batman in full pose and color, it's probably going to be at least $200. A shot of alfred or background character is going to be less than $50. Obviously, if you want something that wasn't in the actual movie it's going to be cheaper. (They sometimes make them for promotion purposes, and they would be numbered. They don't resell much.)
You're best would be to go auction houses that specialize in cels, ebay, or an online auction site. The last option would be the worst option, it's probably sold out considering how old the movie is and how famous the character is.
I mostly own animation cels of characters, but I also have background cels, raw production art, and paintings.
Thinking of getting Booster Gold: the big fall I've only read John's run, is the original any good?
based DC if released
fuck DC if cancelled
That one is nice, how much was it?
This batch of solicitations has like 5 books I want, no way is DC going to release any of them.
Don't worry, it'll come out when they finish up The Monster Society of Evil hardcover.
Y-yeah, and right before they finish Ostrander's Spectre.
Yotsuba!!
>Y-yeah, and right before they finish Ostrander's Spectre.
Why you gotta reopen old wounds, user.
Because every day I walk past two trades that are missing their brothers.
$206, for a group shot with seven cels for the movie "Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island". I have other nice cels, but I don't have any pictures right now. It might sound a bit much, but I think it was definitely worth it.
Comics that you niggers buy but don't read because you're speculators.
What?
Why does this have so many variants, and why do I want this one so badly? Should I go for it? I never read this character before
Big of true.
>of
Nooooooooooo my shitpoooooooooost
They wanted the titty money, and they got it.
I was looking for a famous shot of the joker from the mask of the phantasm film. For clarification, i am also looking to get it signed by bruce timm and paul dini. Any sites in particular i should use or just use ebay?
This month's stuff.
joker would probably be well over $500-600
I don't know your price range, but you probably won't find a famous shot for cheap especially Joker. eBay is your best bet, maybe an auction house that specializes in Warner or CN would be worth a shot. Make sure it comes with a CN COA or a WB seal. Some places, like eBay, lets you do installment plans because of the huge price, but I wouldn't count on an auction house letting you do that.
I got the Scooby-Doo cel when I was asking a seller, who I already bought a cel from, where I could get some nice group shots for my cel collection and he quite readily offered that from his private collection. So, try messaging the seller and tell him about your plan, he might have some cels in stock that he hasn't posted yet or could lead you to where a better one might be. You don't have to go through after you ask, just let him know you're looking for Joker and want to get it signed by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini.
Here are the first ones I found for you
>ebay.com
>ebay.com
Is that goon one paperback or another hardback reprint?
Paperback. He's stated it's the same material as the libraries, other than Rough Stuff being black and white as intended.
Gillen's JitM is one of the few Yea Forums things I'd spend money on.
Also GOAT tequila taste. Have you tried the anejo cazedores?
Neat. Same number of issues as the library editions?
Añejo? Not that I remember, lately my friends and I have been drinking Centenario añejo, which is also damn good. I recomend it straight without lemon or salt.
Yep!
looks nice. Did you do these spines yourself or is that some kind of foreign publisher thing? the spines for most of new 52 and rebirth are all over the map and look fucking weird next to each other a lot of the time
They sell silver, gold and anejo variations of Cazedores. Anejo is just an aged tequila that's always so much smoother than sugary shit like quervo and cheap silvers.
My man, I know what Añejo and my way thru tequilas I wouldnt call me mexican if I didnt, I just havent had that one. Also, if you want to avoid any Corralejo is the worst tequila I ever had.
Thank you very much for your help. My price is very flexible. Any other tips for buying cels? And is it possible to sign them?!
Ha, look what the clerk is reading on this page of Collapser
Bottom left panel
They're all partworks/collections. It's subscription based so you get two books every month.
The Marvel ones are Hachette and seem to be available everywhere but North America.
The DC ones, including the Batman ones, are from Eaglemoss in Europe. Batman seems pretty limited though, I think its only done in France, Germany and UK.
It is very possible to sign them.I have some plans to get some of my cels signed, but I don't think the creator goes to cons. I already saw some BTAS cels online that was signed by Kevin Conroy or Tara when I searched for those links.
>Any other tips for buying cels?
Well, they're other production art that you can buy that aren't just cels. You can have painted backgrounds, lithographs, sericels, production raw keys, model sheets, storyboards or more that I can't think of right now. I have varying opinions on those.
There are also different factors that can make a cel more expensive than another. You'll see that they're are Tom and Jerry cels that are less than $20. The importance of the scene, authenticity, type, or condition can make it more expensive. Compare a random scene of Tom and Jerry to the Lady and the Tramp spaghetti scene, obviously one is going to be more expensive. I'm sure you're looking for an ink and paint cel, which is the final stage of the cel process, so make sure you specify that. $450-$600 is probably going to be your cheapest option for a Joker cel. The one's on eBay seem to be in good condition, so I wouldn't worry about that. Maybe get a art portfolio to store it on the way to the con.
For me, an ideal ink and paint Cel would be a key pose, one that doesn't show any squash or stretch, and you can tell who the character is at a moment's glance.

I liked the first omni so much I decided to get the libraries that are still available and plug the holes with the omnis as they come until I get lucky or commit to spending hundreds on ones that are expensive. Pissed I waited so long to read Goon. I did the same thing with Hellboy for no reason.
>Doom Patrol Vol. 1: Weight of the Worlds
>HC (Standard, Modern)
Color me surprised, I wonder why it's getting the HC treatment
>Sgt Rock: The Lost Battalion
Lul why tho. This was forgettable as fuck, and who was asking for a reprint??
God speed user on getting those hard to find volumes. I got mine maybe a month before they sold out everywhere. After that the prices skyrocketed. But the Goon is hella worth it
>Color me surprised, I wonder why it's getting the HC treatment
Word around here is that they've committed to more hardcovers to grab collector cash, and that they aren't necessarily of good quality.
Vol. 4 is still under list, so it'll only be two. Those two total ~$200 or more, but we'll see.
As said the omni was released back in 2013 but it is very hard to find if not OOP, then last year they released half the run in a HC Morrison 30th anniversary. What we wonder is where is the second volume.
It's not "word around here," it's what Didio said back in May when the comicpro retailer meetings were going on. He wants to switch to HC's of regular ongoing books (like Wonder Woman vol 1: The Just War, Batman 10: Knightmares, Flash 10: Force Quest).
He's doing the same to collections of old material, which is why so many of those titles in the links above are HC's
>Good morning. To those fans of our Silver and Bronze comics worried about changes to our collected editions program, I want to take this moment to set aside any of your concerns. While we are delaying (not cancelling) a couple of planned omnibuses, this decision was made to make way for even more books highlighting stories and series from these moments in time. Comics, never collected in color or ever before, will first see print in smaller volumes (like the titles in the photo and our old archives program) before being collected (if demand dictates) in omnibus form. This is to open a wider array of books and themes for collections from the past. We have so much great material and we are committed to collecting it in the best forms possible to reach as many fans as possible. This is the stuff that made me a DC fan for life, and will make sure it gets the attention it deserves. Best, DD
Now, this means that if the books don't sell well in HC, they won't make it to softcover (like Green Lantern Earth One vol 1)
I meant "word around here" as I read it here and didn't have a source to back it up at this moment. Thanks for the info.
>>Batman: The Dark Knight Detective Vol. 3
>Resolicited after cancellation this year
thank fuck. literally the only thing I care about DC putting out is 80s Batman
>Those two total ~$200 or more, but we'll see.
you're insane man. that stuff is coming out in thicc trades. each trade will mirror the library, but cost 20 bucks..
I wonder if library edition #4 he is finally standing up straight.
Library editions are a thing of beauty, and I've liked what I've read enough to want the best version possible. That $200 is a last resort. I'll definitely hold out hoping for a deal for quite a while, and I'll have omni 1 and 3 to tide me over.
The second omni doesn't even release until like October, so it would take forever to get all those anyhow. That wait was the deciding factor for this, which I've been mulling over since turn of the year.
Good posture's for wussies.
>Library editions are a thing of beauty, and I've liked what I've read enough to want the best version possible
i can't give you shit for this. I understand
it's the same as buying an Absolute edition i guess. i adore all star superman so went for the 100 buck version. hypocrite is me !
My Multiversity HC in the OP is a Library edition and it was so worth the like 25-30 bucks I spent on it.
My general rule of thumb for OOP stuff is if it's list price or under, it's not a bad buy and I can't be too upset about it. That'll bring the total for the series to about what list for all of them would have been, I think, so whatever!
don't spend too much, the story is complete trash and not worth reading. But that is a pretty cover.
>not reading the comics you buy YET
sometimes I buy too much and it just takes a while to read through it all. And I will probably push off reading my free copy of TDK III for a while.
>>Transmetropolitan Book Three (Vertigo)
so they will never finish the Absolutes will they?
What are some comics that are absolutely comfy for you guys?
For me, its grant Morrison doom patrol and his jla run and DC rebirth aquaman and some star wars comic books and stan lee and jack kirby fantastic four.
so which user's shelf has the best taste and which has the worst?
>so they will never finish the Absolutes will they?
I've never read Transmet, but the third was released and is marketed as the "final" volume.
Beasts of Burden. I'm glad and excited they finally solicited the next volume.
Mine is the best and yours in the worst, and I'm unironically boxman
They finished the Transmet absolute's last year
>Madame Xanadu
>Nemi
>Sky Doll
>Witchblade
>Worst
yours
>Best
mine
well then, I'm an idiot, thanks!
Back from the shop here’s what I got
Multiversity is a deluxe edition. Not a library edition.
I really enjoyed most of Dog Days of Summer, just good fun stories
I just want the cover, it's about 20
Yeah I love those 80 page specials DC puts out through the year. They're only DC floppies I buy.
>tfw forever lurking /shelf/ hoping someone posts a comic you've worked on in their haul/collection
>tfw it never happens
fuck nigga what comic did you work on?
holy shit are you Bendis? i'm a big fan man. WHATSUP DANGER !
How?
someone even posted Empowered for fucks sake. Who the fuck buys Empowered
>indie shitter mad no one likes his shit
So I keep getting 20% discounts whenever I pick up my weekly floppies at my LCS. Any idea why? Is because I put stuff on a pull list?
have you considered asking the people who work at your LCS
that's what mine does
Castle Waiting
Space Academy 123
tell us the comic and I'll consider buying it
Oh, I showed this to my co-worker who I talk about comics with and he complimented my variety, but I feel it could be better. Thoughts?
I can only afford two. Which one should I remove?
What genre is it?
vader. larocca is just terrible
Aquaman
no, a girl works at the counter
Oh, okay. That makes sense.
>no, a girl works at the counter
Hulk because I'm enjoying that Vader series and I like aquaman
Definitely Vader
>start to scroll to see one Doomsday comic
Oi.
>keep scrolling to see 2 Doomsday comics nailed up to the wall
Stop.
>that feel when no one comments on your shelf
it hurts
Yea Forums is all about those silent (You)s my man. even if no one comments, everybody sees, so take solace.
I've worked on a few, only been in the biz three years though so nothing super popular
That's not that surprising, Warren's had some dedicated fans here over the years. Probably cheesecake enthusiasts too
Most of my work was licensed, so not really indie mate
I've mostly worked in crime/noir, horror and sci-fi. No capeshit yet
>no capeshit
well there's your problem
>a girl works at the counter
A black girl works at my lcs and shes a qt and I picked up naomi #1 to impress her that I'm down with black chicks. I was thinking about getting black panther but I'm not a cuck
so this is the bendis fanbase
this is the post
>Larroca
>no, a girl works at the counter
oh...you are THAT user. You /shelf/ card should be limpdick
I rarely get any comments. If you're posting them every thread, wait a few before posting again. That might help. Comment on some other people's too and that might get some conversation flowing.
But also , you big bitch!
Is this the real inside art wtf
Fantastic fucking post.
This is great. Thanks.
Isn't there a word for putting a book on a shelf or something like that, too? Now I'm going to spend an hour searching Japanese book slang instead of reading.
THIS is the guy they chose for Uncanny X-Men
that picture might be from his Star Wars.
But the Vader is pretty bad too. Lots of 3D models ripped from movies/games and traced over.
And film still like the guy above me shows
his work on uncanny actually isn't bad. it's not *good* but compared to his iron man and star wars, it's way better. it's amazing the difference the colorist makes.
>it's amazing the difference the colorist makes.
he was actually on twitter bitching about how shitty his colorist is on Uncanny back at the start of his run.
It also had something to do with it being a woman
> how shitty his colorist is on Uncanny back at the start of his run.
that's funny as hell. it's crazy how bad some artists are at evaluating their own stuff. you read about band's putting our records and the song the band THINKS should be the lead single, and the producer goes "no no no it should be THIS" for example.
>it's amazing the difference the colorist makes.
The first issue of New 52 All-Star Western was one of the most stunningly ugly books I've read because of this. It improves so much even with the second issue, so I think it was rushed or something, but it gets leagues better once the colorist changes.
It still only ever gets so good though because Moritat's work always seems to look like it was done the night before deadline.
for me? It's Timothy Zahn
where's the manka?
in another castle
>books what ain't got no pitchas
Yikes, pally.
Vader. It's shit.
What's the 7 volume LOTR?
it's just older from 2001, it's the full saga though
Hobbit, Trilogy, Silmarillion, what else?
People who post shelves with their booze/pot sitting on them are objectively even worse than shelves full of toy-crap.
sorry, I meant is just the trilogy(fellowship, tower, return) each is broken into 2 books totaling 6, the 7th book is entirely dedicated to appendices
I have nowhere else to put my booze in my room, as I do not trust others to not steal it
This. Talk about tacky. Who puts a fucking bottle on their /shelf/. Put it in the recycling.
It's to impress the underage posters on Yea Forums with their "adult-ness" I guess.
That or he's implying he's too poor to afford a liquor cabinet and has to keep all his possessions on a single shelf. I'm guessing the former.
the latter, why does it bother you this much?
We would be remiss in our duties as members of /shelf/ to not castigate you.
Because this isn't Yea Forums, (and Yea Forums would give you worse shit than anyone here for those books), you posted a shelf with no comics and a bottle of liquor.
Is anyone going to any conventions coming up?
I'm going to a con in 2 weeks or so, gonna see if I can pick up some doom patrol floppies
I use the empty ones as bookends, that and busted hardrives
I'm planning on going to a lot of cons this year (...well...at least the ones in my city) since I want to get a table next year. My next con won't be until September tho.
I'm sorry I don't conform to your standards
if it works it works
>busted hard drive bookends
You are killing me Lokibro. I remember giving Boxman the same shit. Bookends cost like 10 dollars. Considering the amount that we spent on comics themselves, it's only right that we present them appropriately. Does it make any sense to not be willing to put 10 dollar bookends around hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars worth of books?
>Namefagging
Now you are just trying to bait me.
Instead I will post my (almost a year out-of-date) shelf pics. I have the up-to-date volumes of everything you see now.
The bottom shelves (not shown) are empty, more or less.
Comics and cartoons aren't the "standard", they are the board rules.
All of my novels are on their own half-shelves in the same style now. I really need to take new (and better) pics.
>taking off the dusk jackets for Thor and BPRD
ok I am triggered . you must really like your black & silver huh
I won't bother with the Mangoes close ups.
Yeah, I know I should, but they work wonders for manga and I rather use them for that than having them in a landfield leaking technology all over the ground. I do have a statue of a blacksmith with the important stuff.
Not bait at all, just forgot to take it out after the storytime. Nice shelves tho.
>Akira hardcovers out of the cool box
Weird, also, what are those two Usagi HCs there?
Also, did you accidentally buy a duplicate Alita Volume 1?
No, I really don't care for dust jackets. The invincibles would be jacket-free if they weren't absolutely plain beneath them, which irked me plenty. This is also an out of date pic.
I don't care for them either so I just take them off when I'm reading it. Do you just keep them all in a box or something?
You seem like an insufferable fedora tipper.
Those are two softcover collections in a slipcase.
Having books in a fully enclosed box is silly. It's a bookshelf not a warehouse.
No, they are pics taken at different times. I have all the softcover volumes and the new Deluxe Alitas (hoping for the Deluxe LO so I can de-shelf and box the smaller books).
where can I buy one?
I keep some of them boxed up, but I have zero interest in using them or in resale value, they aren't important to me.
My extensive animation/anime collection is a shit-mess of disorganization so I won't post closeups today.
It would be slightly less cringe worthy if it was decent liquor but it’s always some $30 bottle of nothing. Might as well just have a few beer cans littering your shelves.
Fuck you. I love beer and graphic design, so I'll put a fine ass can or bottle on my shelf.
not that user but most dust jackets are tacky compared to a nice embossed spine
Depends but I agree that sometimes the underneath does display better. However my autism dictates the book must be complete and that means with the dust jacket.
That's ok, you do you. Me, I am not into dust-jackets.
>friend brings home an issue of Wasteland he found in a dollar bin
>sorely reminded of the cancelled DC trade collections
>tv in front of the curtains
No feng shui.
yell at didio on facebook
Masterpiece desu
They were both great covers of the same first issue.
See here:
I dunno I bought it used as a library copy it still had the sticker in it, I must be misunderstanding the term library edition
Libraries are Dark Horse's over sized hardcover format. They're big, beautiful books with cover weight pages.
>I dunno I bought it used as a library copy it still had the sticker in it, I must be misunderstanding the term library edition
oh sweet summer child
I've only read the first 24 issues
is it worth continuing
I watch Gem Mint collectibles and he reads like less than a quarter of his books
ya...but do you have time to read every omnibus ever?
Loeb/Sale collaborations, Calvin & Hobbes, superhero parodies
I have the best taste and stopped posting because its uncontroversial/unconventional and no one ever commented on it
why not get Planet Hulk and World War Hulk instead
I used to do a black girl it was the best I miss her
Wasteland had some great fucking stories
no I only own two omnibuses anyways, will pick up the Madman oneday, just not interested in longer runs
Im a new collector. Longtime casual fan. Hardcore supesfag.
That sounds fantastic. I'll try not to sound as much like a tardo in the future now
Start by buying yourself some Hellboy Library Editions.
Is World War Hulk good? I really dislike jr jr's art.
>Is World War Hulk good?
no. Planet Hulk was good but WWH is just powerwank for Hulkfags
That was actually the plan now. I've been wanting to get into Hellboy
Library Editions refer to premium hardcover editions on very high quality heavy paper and oversized pages, as opposed to Omnibus editions, which are generally larger and try to collect entire arcs or short runs in a volume or two, but can be lower weight paper. Deluxe Editions are generally smaller collections than either, usually with nice paper quality and covers.
Then you have Absolute editions, which have super-high quality paper and oversized art and slipcases and shit. There is a lot of overlap in these terms.
The Hellboys here are Library Editions, the BPRD's are just "hardcovers", the Sandman volumes are Omnibus, as are the Walking Dead (even though they are oversized and in slipcases.
The DC books next to Tank Girl here are Absolute Editions that didn't photograph well, the Goon volumes are described as Library as you can see, while Big Damn Sin City is just f-ing big.
Comic hardcovers use a lot of loosely interchangeable terms.
Yes and JRJr's art is great
The first Immortal Hulk HC comes out in October, that will be my first Hulk HC. I might get the Peter David stuff one day, I have good memories of it. Planet Hulk was ok-ish, WWH was pure shit.
Stop lying to newbs, pls. Next you'll be recommending Identity Crisis.
Peter David Omnibus out in January boyos
I saw that on Amazon just now. I will probably have to get that. And the Starman Omni, because the first HC volume is ridiculously priced.
Starman is obnoxiously large tho, at 1520 pages it's like 200 pages bigger than Big Damn Sin City. I use a wooden cookbook stand to read BDSS.
I'm okay with big ol' Starman, I'll finally have the whole series collected and then I can donate my trades to a friend.
Im at San Diego Comic Con right now
I'm loving the art in this
Oh I feel obligated to buy it, I just wish it had come out in 2 volumes again.
Let me also add that I wish I had invested in the Sandman Absolutes instead of the Omnis; the Omnis are super nicely bound and everything but the Absolutes are much better for reading.
> I just wish it had come out in 2 volumes again.
But it is? This is just half the series.
so which is usually better. The Library, Omnis or Absolutes?
I've only read Omnis and they were pretty good.
Absolutes probably but you don't have to pick between an absolute or a library editions since one is made by Dark Horse and the other by DC so they don't overlap.
Omnis have the most material for the buck of course.
It ran 100 issues?
Absolutes and Library editions focus on the highest weight of paper, and usually have a lot of extra art and material in them.
Omnibus' concentrate on getting as much story in the volume as possible.
81 (starting from zero, or 82 if you count #81 which was the Blackest Night bullshit), plus all the side stories.
Huh, someone is selling a Starman Omnibus #1 for 35 bucks, which is a lot less than I've seen it in a long long time.
thanks
holy shit just looked up absolutes on amazon and they're expensive as fuck. Except for the Green Lantern/Green Arrow one I'm interested in
Blackest Night Omni is $90 while the Absolute is $300
Absolutes are generally considered a lot more "collectible" than Omnis. Omnis get expensive when they are not reprinted again.
Enough has come out for a trade already?! Time flies.
Hehe, I'd consider buying a Johns Absolute Edition a lot like buying 24ct. gold Truck-nuts.
>actually thinking of buying Blackest Night
I feel sorry for you, kid.
You had that sort of taste once too, you know.
His GL run got me into comics and I will always love it. I might be a bit biased.
Well yes, I remember that, but I try not to.
Did you grow up thinking Spawn was the tits?
I'm probably a lot older, I grew up with Claremont's original X-Men run and thought he was faultless looooong past that being the case.
I am embarrassed to say I once thought Byrne was a decent writer and not just a good artist with serious problems.
>Did you grow up thinking Spawn was the tits?
Luckily I was never exposed to Spawn in any shape or form.
But my Venom faggotry...
I also love JRJR . Never got the hate . His latest work in Superman Year One was great (the colorist Alex Sinclair steals the show.)
Blackest Night is peak popcorn comics. Sometimes I just want to turn my brain off and read an action movie: Geoff Johns delivers.
At least go with his JSA stuff, it's both dumb fun and has heart.
Why not read both?
Sinestro Corps War>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Blackest Night>>>>>>Brightest day.
JRjr has gotten amazingly lazy as an artist and calls it his "style" now, he doesn't have the excuse of health that Frank Miller had. It takes a lot of masterful inking and coloring to make JRjr's art palatable.
I got out of comics for a long stretch during the Venom era. I just don't understand the appeal of Venom at all.
I just think his GL stuff turned dumb in the wrong way after a while. But you do you.
Same. Once I realized the idea behind the Rainbow Corps I NOPE'd out of there.
I agree with that. In fact Blackest Night is my jumping off point. Everything after that is trash.
I love Geoffs GL run but I agree with you. After Blackest Night the quality takes a dive. However I really enjoyed seeing Sinestro and Hal interacting with each other
Now I feel like trying out Cullen Bunn Sinestro run. Anyone know if it's worth reading?
The problem with "Dead characters come back to haunt the heroes" is that few even remotely memorable or decent characters stay dead.
So you either have to abruptly kill a bunch of them in an obvious way, or you bring back shit like Terry Long and the Baby to fuck with Donna.
Hah, I remember when Mordru did this shit, and they brought back zombie Son of Vulcan. I had to go look up Son of Vulcan, and I've read comics since the mid 70's.
he's a top 5 superhero artist for me
JRJr's only bad work is the DCYou Superman because no one can make that stupid armored suit to look decent
Either we are miles and miles away on artistic taste, or you have been exposed to like 10 comic book artists.
off the top of my head.
Ryan Ottley
John Byrne
George Perez
Dale Keown
Tradd Moore
Alex Ross....
I don't even like Jim Lee's stale work but it's 5x JRjr's stuff on his best day.
Some of the best examples of that was Earth 2 Superman and Lois, who had just died in Infinite Crisis, and Ralph and Sue Dibny who had died in 52 and Identity Crisis respectively.
Now either you have to argue that Johns was playing the long game with these deaths, or he used them, maybe not masterfully, but pretty damn well on the fly.
>JRJr's only bad work is the DCYou Superman
It wasn't even the suit for me. It was the faces.
They look like someone ironed them flat. That's a skill of some sort, but it's not one that needs to be used on every character.
The rest was alright.
different tastes, I like Byrne's work though
my top 5 would be JRJr, Immonen, McNiven, Coipel and Loeb
old Miller right outside
shit I meant Sale
its past 130, I'm tired
Is Superman Year One your only exposure to JRjr? Because he's been working at Marvel since forever, churning out reliably Meh artwork on everything from X-Men to Avengers.
Superman Year One is the hardest JRjr has worked in decades, I suppose on the hilariously misguided belief that THIS beginning of Superman would somehow stick at DC long-term.
I like all those guys and I still like JRJR
I have his Cable issues and they're badass
why do people keep parroting this? All-Star Batman issues were just as good
Not that user but I remember his art looking a lil worse at the beginning of AllStar Batman.
probably planning on getting the new omni's
always always ALWAYS check to see if these sellers are jacking up the price because they are out of print. Prices will vary extremely widely with OOP books so be careful and use places like ebay to double check on going prices for stuff. Also try to plan ahead, DC makes this really hard cause they cancel printings so often it makes us tear out our hair.
as for the Green Lantern/Green Arrow, I'd recommend the Deluxe Edition for it. In quality it's almost as good as an Absolute (not oversized and no slip case), it has very nice thick paper stock and the original colouring is captured very well.
>I once thought Byrne was a decent writer
but he is. No one will change my love for his She-Hulk, not Aaron and certainly not you
I dog JrJr as well. Especially on Thor.
I don't think anyone was trying to change your opinion?
Anyone ordering this? I wanna support more Hex but at the same time I already have the first Showcase, and I'm not too keen on color reprints of that era
>have to pay back half of my scholarship this year
>thought it would be a drag due to my being a trainee and getting shitty pay
>got a full time job at the company today even though I thought they'd try to keep me as a trainee for one more month
>means I have more money from august and on
Well, hot damn, am I happy right now. I just hope they don't jew out on me regarding my salary as they still haven't told me how much I'll get. Still, my first instinct is to think about what place I'll travel to next and what books I'll buy. Apparently, the Sandman Absolutes are back on the menu boys!
Is "The amazing Spider-Man" omnibus vol 1. the same or equal to the marvel masterworks Spider-Man vol. 1?
Me. I've been eyeing the Showcase, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
No it isn't. Roughly each omnibus includes 3 or 4 masterworks content
Who are some good writers that write short runs?
>hilariously misguided belief that THIS beginning of Superman would somehow stick at DC long-term.
It's supposed to be the beginning of the Superman from TDKR, so as long as DC prints TDKR, it should be relevant
>tfw mostly read stuff online
>tfw only getting physical copies for aesthetical reasons
>tfw I'm winding up only getting casual cape stuff (Long Halloween, Alex Ross' stuff, popular X-Men stories, New Frontier, Hellboy, Sandman, Lucifer, Watchmen, Swamp Thing, etc.) because I don't want to spend money on tons of Omnis
Does anyone else do this? How much of a fag am I?
Damm, i just cant find a good substitute. Want to collect the original Spider-Man and FF series.
Wait what? I don't get it. The new SYO story isn't in its own universe? How do they signal that?
Welp I'm getting some tax returns so time to buy things I don't need and didn't plan on getting. Thinking of getting Strange Apparitions and Dark Detective by Englehart and Gerber's Omega the Unknown for a start.
Epic Collections bro.
You'll end buying omnis sooner or later, user. This hobby doesn't let you go. It will suck you dry.
>tfw only getting physical copies for aesthetical reasons
Yikes!
It was in most of the announcements and interviews
Pic related just came in the mail. Thinking about getting paperbacks of The Question but it's difficult. Should I just end up finding it in floppies? Also planning to get Doom Patrol by Morrison at some point too.
>Should I just end up finding it in floppies?
Yes. It will end up being cheaper
Wait AllStar Western as in the N52 run? Or was there an older AllStar run I don't know about. I swear I thought it started in Weird Western Tales.
N52 was volume 3.
I'm looking at it. It will probably be more "accurate" compared to the first Showcase.
Basically, they ran out of material for the first showcase that would be pre-1976. 1976 was when the royalty reprint agreements kicked in, and that would fuck with the low cost of the Showcase Presents edition.
So they padded it out with the other stories (not just Jonah Hex) from those Weird Western Tales issues.
Then they worked out a deal with Fleisher for a cheap reprint of more of his work for a second Showcase.
Because of that padding, this omnibus actually contains the Hex contents of the first Showcase Presents, and most of the second. The second one went to Jonah Hex #22.
ill put in a preorder that I'll probably cancel later on
Welcome to the rabbit hole
The vinyl contains some dialogue from the third issue.
The end of the rabbit hole is when you start tracking down good condition floppies to make into custom binds, and then argue about reading orders
I'm OP and that basically describes my collecting habit. I'm really wanting to get New Frontier, Swamp Thing, and A S S. I'm thinking about picking up the Huston MK run too. Definitely want more Ross stuff.
No
>end
>of the rabbit hole
Tippity top kekaroni, my friend.
>collecting habit
But do you read the books you collect?
This. Just when I think I have all the books I want, I discover 20 more. Repeat ad infinitum.
I've never thought I have a the books I want and I keep discovering 20 more. This isn't good, bros.
>it is the year 2080
>Afterlife with Archie Vol 2 is out
>user has finally died
>family meets in lawyer's office to dispense will
>family left with nothing but now have to deal with a storage garage filled with tens of thousands of comics
thanks great-uncle
Oh yeah. Multiversity, From The Dead, and GL Silver Age V1 come with me to work often for re reading on my lunch breaks. If I've bought something I've usually read it beforehand except for Kingdom Come and GL Silver Age
.
Just found out my coworker that I talk comics with has the first 22 Savage Sword of Conan collections. Holy shit, I just found a personal library to raid. Got a lot of reading ahead of me. Also, he lent me tits, I mean Power Girl.
>first 22
Well that's the whole series
I know because I have them too
Enjoy user. Roy Thomas stint on Savage Sword is fucking great
>Well that's the whole series
well my co-worker will be happy to know that too then, he got tired of buying them and mainly just buys floppies...for the speculator market... But I'm also really excited to bask in some BWS art, I have never read anything by him just seen some pictures he has done, and he is amazing
I know that feel. Moved into a new apartment with a friend who has three times the amount of comics that I have, and probably buys several trades worth every two weeks. He's got way more money to spare too so he just ends up buying everything I would've, our tastes cross over so much
BWS only did a couple stories in Savage Sword. Barbarian is the title he is known for. His entire run is available in the first new Barbarian omnibus from Marvel
ah yes, you are right, I just looked at the first few in the table of contents and ya the first 4 are from Conan the Barbarian and have BWS.
Bump
Well it contains Red Nails and i just finished that and holy fuck that was great. I have never read Robert E Howard before and while this is a translation i kinda expect it pretty faithful (i have never heard complaints). I can see why people really loved his old Conan stories cause this kind of story is fantastic. Leads into it like an already lived in world and then builds the setting like it is just part of the journey. Then the meat of Red Nail is just ratchetting it up inch by bloody inch and rarely lets the tension slack for long. The art may not quite be BWS at his peak but it is damn good.
This makes me realize how poor the current Conan is in Marvel. Glad to be enlightened. He was still great in No Road Home
>This makes me realize how poor the current Conan is in Marvel
I'm actually finding Aaron's Barbarian to be one of the best books coming out of the big 2.
It is held up by good art. Fair if you like it but The Dreaming and Lucifer, Hulk and well..most outside continuity DC can hold it's own at least against that book
Wouldn't call it a masterpiece but it's a great movie. Fuck me but I had more time watching all Sony Spidey movies, even ASM1 and 2, than Disney's movies. 10 years ago, I would have loved to see Spidey get included in the Avengers but now, it all just feels like a fucking low-quality joke
really? I'm all in on Duggan's though
Thought Duggan's was terrible desu
I thought he would be a good fit but nope, and the artist he is paired with can't seem to figure out what they are going for. Like not sure they are writing the same book. From the single issue in No Road Home I think Zub needs to take over a book, he seems to really love Conan and his one issue was fantastic
>Strange Apparitions and Dark Detective by Englehart
DC was going to publish these in a single book, is that coming out or not?

>The Flash Vol. 11: The Greatest Trick of All HC (Standard, Modern) 11/02/2020 $24.99
i feel like DC are trolling me at this point, pulled out of releasing the rebirth series in HC after 3 deluxe volumes and now they're shifting back but doing it in the individual volumes
The “Batman: Englehart” hardcover collection is still scheduled for January, no cancellation announced yet.
13thdimension.com
Typical DC, they can’t stick to any one type of book for long. On the rare occasions when they do stick to one style of trade one (or more) of the volumes goes OOP immediately.
Bronze Age JLA got two Omnibus editions then volume 3 was abruptly cancelled weeks before release. Only for a smaller hardcover collection announced later that would contain 1/3 of what was planned for in the Omnibus. LOSH has the first issues collected in Omnibus form, the later issues in smaller hardcovers and the middle uncollected in any form...although there may be some OOP archives collections for some of those issues.
Standard DC practice is to be as inconsistent as possible.
Yes. Yes, this pleases me.
Get the one that fits your shelf the best.
usually i wait for a full set to be released before buying them but a coworker bought me both deluxe volumes last year for christmas and in january i decided to cave and buy 3 since 4 was only a couple months away or so i thought
>Get the one that fits your shelf the best.
What do you mean?
That's sexy
Follow your heart.
>tfw no MiracleMan omnibus never ever
When the FUCK is Gaiman finishing that story?
I want all of them, should I aim to finish a collection I already started or get some nice covers or a one-shot volume
Happens to us all, if you collect long enough your shelf will eventually end up as a hodgepodge of different formats
Finish a collection you already started.
IS that a goddamn motherfucking Captain Britain omnibus I'm looking at right now?
How are the DC Bronze Age omnis? The only DC omni I have is Morrison's Batman and it seem alright.
Indeed it is, here are the contents.
Mixed bag I guess. The paper quality is very nice, thicker pages makes it feel more durable but DC still uses glued binding when they really should be using sewn binding for books this size. Worried about the upcoming 1500 page Starman Omnibus.
That's great, user. I have the Endgame TPB but not the rest of this stuff.
The 4th World omnibus is just as big as the Starman one coming out and it's perfectly fine with the binding. I'm worried about them misprinting pages.
>but DC still uses glued binding when they really should be using sewn binding
Son of a BITCH
While I’m here I’ll post this...somebody stop me before the 4th one comes out. I need help.
>but DC still uses glued binding when they really should be using sewn binding for books this size
What's the difference?
To be fair, DC seems to be doing more and more sewn binding AND personally I haven’t had any trouble with my copies. Only mentioned it because I know some people are very anal about the binding and I don’t want to mislead anyone. They are quality products...printing errors aside. LOL
Glued binding falls apart under its own weight and the spines crack horribly. You glue a book that size you're gonna have a bad time.
Help with what? Picking them up from the floor?
hagley.org
To put it bluntly; sewn binding connects the pages to the frame directly. Glued is just as it sounds, the pages are glued to the frame. Glued binding is cheaper but has a higher chance of separating over time.
Haha...I don’t keep them on the floor, I just set them there for the picture. They are too big for my shelves though, so they end up in the back of a closet. They’re just too big, just look at it compared to a normal book.
why are they doing this to me?
Came here just to ask when is the earliest Immortal Hulk collection. Fuck. October is too long
Englehart had a meltdown a few months ago and posted ALL of his Batwork on his website (including the unreleased Dark Detective III), so maybe it was secretly cancelled and he was reacting to that
Supreme and Starlight: The Return of Duke McQueen
inb4 >Millar
fite me
Yeah, I saw that... still hoping cooler heads prevail. Englehart’s run on the title was among the best ever, his Cap and Avengers runs were phenomenal as well. Underrated figure in the industry.
Was Mantis the first ever instance of a writer inserting his waifu into his story?
Bendis
Bendis wasn't a writer in the 70's though.
>JRjr has gotten amazingly lazy as an artist and calls it his "style" now, he doesn't have the excuse of health that Frank Miller had. It takes a lot of masterful inking and coloring to make JRjr's art palatable.
been saying it for years. his "style" is just trash.
Kirby made Big Barda after his wife but I think that was after Englehart and Mantis.
I think Gwen Stacy was Stan's wife?
Any blonde in a Stan Lee book was his wife
what makes you think he likes blondes?
Because likes his wife?

I hardly eat on my lunch hour. Usually just a rockstar or coffee.
My Yea Forums-related stuff this week.
My girlfriend works in a charity shop and on occasion she gets some ridiculously good finds. In the past it's usually been stuff like the Ambush Bug omnibus, the odd Aliens trade, that sort of thing.
Last week, someone donated the second and third Walking Dead omnibuses. Yes, the 48-issue collections with over 1000 pages each. You have my permission to hate me as you wish.
As for stuff I've bought, I picked up the first two deluxe Wastelands collections recently, one of the IDW Transformers omnibuses and I finished off my Evangelion collection with the final omnibus of that
I noticed a lot of people in here have the Kodansha releases of the Akira trades. Are there any significant differences between them and the Dark Horse volumes (other than, I assume, the pages being presented in the original format)
Just got back from the LCS, not at home yet. 100% Uncle mode, I bought books for my nephews to read over Summer.
>You have my permission to hate me as you wish.
that things probably gonna fall apart, nothing of value was gained
My last two packages came in, so everyone can calm down now. It was a little touch and go there, but we did it.
Based Mouse Guard. I should really finish collecting that series. I loved Fall and Winter.
>the Ambush Bug omnibus
You mean the Showcase? Is that even hard to fi-holySHIT look at those prices.
I bought that on a whim years and years ago. I don't even know why. Glad I did. Wish my pages weren't so yellowed, though.
How's UA3? I feel very tempted despite not being a Marvel reader.
I'm retarded.
Art is not flipped. Original sound effects.
yellowed pages are the cost for having any of that stuff reprinted.
Super cheap reprint on the shittiest paper available, but get through 400 pages at a time
did the armored skeptic just use that guy as his avatar?
Yo how much was that monster book? Looks dope.
This will be my first time reading it. Someone mentioned it at some point and I was immediately sold on the art.
I think you need to invest in a crane
>second and third Walking Dead omnibuses. Yes, the 48-issue collections with over 1000 pages each. You have my permission to hate me as you wish.
why? TWD is trash
Nice Mouse Guard. I hear good things about Amulet, but isn't it for young kids?
>good things about Amulet, but isn't it for young kids?
Yes, that's why I bought it for my nephew. He's already read the first one. All I know is the rabbit is his favorite character. I've been told by his parents to ask follow up questions about the books (like an audio book report) so guess I'll find out.
>seething
I'm tempted.
It's good! Maybe wait until a sale in a few months if you're on the fence and not really a big Marvel guy.
Someone broke open an Amazon box full of Sailor Moon Eternal books and put it back on my doorstep. Wouldn't even be mad but they put it in back so shitty that it bent two of the covers. I've literally had them sitting stacked underneath like 10lbs of other books for a month hoping it'll flatten out smoothly
Very nice. Good choices.
Felt so good to finally get some more books. Most were pleasant surprise finds. Couldn't find anything at Half Priced Books (shocking) thus went to one of my LCSes and snatched these two floppies. They had Carnage prt 1 but it was $130. I was tempted. So tempted.
The next day I went to one of the used bookstores close to work and saw Art of Bone and #4 of Fullmetal Alchemist.
Few days passed and this morning I dropped by an estate sale and picked up the Walt Disney art book for $2.
Good stuff.
Mom's still borrowing some of my graphic novels and I have new books...sooo some missing books and shuffling around.
Do y'all ever recommend comics for your parents? How long did it take them before they humored you and actually tried to read a comic book?
Didn't he break his wrist?
leave JRJR alone
can't wait for disney stuff finally ending up in the public domain
>what is a trademark
wouldn't know when he broke his wrist but then he wouldn't be able to dish out his low quality pencils in such short order. look at the marvelous amount of work he puts out every month since forever, you can't do that with a broken wrist but certtainly with lower standards
I had to check if I posted the wrong picture. Luckily I didn't this time Haha
You obviously don't know.
arstechnica.com
Didn't tell me anything I didn't know. Enjoy steamboat willy in your webcomic
No updates there or with the mangoo sections tho.
thanks, I will
don't be a dumbass
Went a bit hard on the mangos this week, but a sale is something to grab onto.
The rest of the mangoo
And my updated Venom shrine with Carnage and Black Suit Spider-Man~!

What are some manga that has good storytelling, or who are some manga writers that are actually competent?
Check out Naoki Urasawa. Monster, 20th century boys, cant speak for Pluto but I heard is great.
Any non-horror artists/writers?
Monster
Death Note
Fullmetal Alchemist
Midori Days
Beserk
Akira
Any of Junji Ito's short stories
There's a lot, you just have to be willing to check things out.
Fullmetal Alchemist is GOAT
I don't remember that having good storytelling when I read it. Why do you think he's a good writer?
Good art and story, that isn't horror...
I feel like Iroh thinking about his old friends.
Try Full Metal Alchemist, Dungeon Meshi, and maybe Kimi Ni Todoke if you're into cute romances. The art is nice, but I wouldn't call it outstanding like Berserk is.
Every chapter adds a little bit, whether it's to the characters, worldbuilding, or the overall plot.
Not a single bit seems wasted or drawn out, but it's not rushed either.
There was only ever one arc that built upon itself as time went on. It's not like DBZ where they fought Raditz, but he was just a toadie for Vegeta, who was subordinate to Ginyu, who was a lapdog for Frieza.
Each enemy they faced was just a piece of the bigger puzzle that was Father and the Philosopher's Stone.
But he just told you one. None of Urasawa's stories are horror.
Takehiko Inoue
Jiro Taniguchi
Yukinobu Hoshino (EVERYTHING IS OUT OF PRINT AAAHAHHHH)
Kaoru Mori
Makoto Yukimura
Osamu Tezuka
it doesn't have any cute girls in it either
Pluto has Uran.
Looks like the McFarlane/Michelinie Spidey omnibus is going OoP again; just had my Book Suppository order from the other day cancelled abruptly and the one remaining copy on Amazon has risen $60 since just yesterday :(
FMA is by a woman
dead thread...I won't bother taking a picture yet then. But I went back home to visit family, on the way stopped at a gas station and they were advertising a comic, figured I might as well support a small town comic artist so I picked it up. Looks neat, came with 3D glasses too, so we shall see how it is. Just sometimes nice to support locals
I look forward to seeing this in my future lurking
what?
Hiromu Arakawa has ladyparts, what did you not understand?
No pic, but my Berserk Deluxe vol 2 hit my post office about an hour ago, it should be here in the morning.
About a week earlier than estimated.
Feels good being near a major shipping hub.
I'm only missing V and Uzumaki. Guess that needs to be my next purchase.
