That's not what she originally was. She was a strict teacher whose bun was too tight and ends up becoming the exact thing her old self would've hated: Carefree and dumb (but much happier).

i think if she was just a womanchild it would at least be less disturbing but the idea of a show's protagonist essentially being an literal adult retard just feels off
a lot of zany protagonists are practical retards but the idea of one literally being medically brain damaged seems odd that they have her as a joke
maybe if she switched between the personas like a Jekyll and Hyde situation it would be less off-putting
