What's the Yea Forumsnsensus on Bendis' Ultimate Spider-Man?
He wants to talk about bendis?
Who thought those live action covers we're a good idea?
Should we tell him?
I dunno. He might not be ready.
You could be right.
The entire Ultimate concept was a mistake
I could be wrong.
Wrong about what?
Wrong about HIM.
HIM him? Or him HIM?
HIM.
You don't mean HIM, do you?
I do.
You don't!
I DO!
I guess putting Bendis in the OP was a mistake
Seeing the big picture, it was the only good thing that came out of the god-awful, edgy cringefest that was the Ultimate universe. But on its own, it's pretty meh.
Well, if you're sure, I guess we'll tell him.
I'm sure.
Are you SURE sure or are you sure SURE?
I Am. SURE.
OK, but only if you're SURE.
I'm the surest of sure.
Funny how the quality of the writing and art dropped once Mark Bagley left
Alright, I'll tell him.
No, let ME tell him.
OK then, YOU tell him.
Here I go!
Go ahead!
Bendis Sucks. The End.
The end?
I really enjoy Ultimate Spider Man. It's one of my favorite comics.
A lot of people on this board hate Bendis and his writing. A common complaint they have is towards the pacing of his writing, sometimes referred to as "de compressed story telling". People believe it's too dragged out, and too slow.
The writing for most comics is completely awful, especially super hero comics. For most comics, events that should be life altering and profoundly psychologically affecting, are treated by the characters as mundane, and seem to have no effect on their lives, their personalities, their mental state - anything at all, really. In Ultimate Spider Man, Bendis actually takes the time to deal with how different events would realistically effect the characters. But again, most comics don't do this. I suppose if you spend enough time reading literature where the characters act nothing like real human beings, reading a comic where characters act realistically is jarring. I suppose in that sense, it's not surprising people can't recognize an actual good work. They're so used to reading trash that they have no sense of determining actual quality.
I'm not saying Utlimate Spider Man is the best comic ever, or even the best Spider Man comic ever. It's not. But it's pretty good. And it's a lot of fun to read. The art is nice too, and complements the writing quite well.
Bendis? As in the comic writer Bendis??
the early 2000s
I like it until around issue 55 or so.
They were kinda cool
I can't think of a reason to read it instead of Ditko's run.
How about because they're different comics? You just going to read Ditko's run 100 times?
Maybe not.
Maybe?
Unironically Bendis' best work.
I wanted to fuck Ultimate Sue Storm. Especially when she became Kang
Ultimate MJ was adorable before Bendis felt like shitting on her character for no reason
I wanted to fuck Ult MJ and Gwen
Looking back on it and thinking about all the trade paperbacks that were sold around that time, every arc was a neat and tidy 5-6 issue story with an extra issue sometimes included for silly and fun stuff.
The stories were to easy to digest, they were not mired by decades of continuity, and as a kid, I could wait sixth months and buy the trade if I wanted to follow along.
As far as storytelling is concerned, and whether or not it’s good, you’re essentially reading a decompressed version of the first 2-3 years of the Lee/Ditko run for a 2000s teenaged audience. The writing felt fresh because Bendis-speak was seen as more of a stylistic choice to convey the way people thought teens talked like. The art worked even though it’s a bit same-facey, because Bagley is a machine and was always on time and he could draw an attractive, young, and lithe Spider-Man.
Nah
Great until Peter dies. It's obvious that was a sudden decision. Also Bendis forgets some plot points but I don't mind. One of my all time favorite comics and my prefered Spider-man version.
I love this cover, cuz most people dont realize that this view is the one looking down from the roof of the old Marvel Offices right when you walk outside from the stairs. I used to go up there to smoke when I worked at Marvel, and looked down that same view 100s of times

Kill yourself.
They aren't though.
I'd agree with this. Still garbage tho.

This isn't true at all. Why are you lying?
>shill outs himself
Now we know why this thread is so full f bait. You're a faggot that thinks your nostalgia for you time at marvel means Bendis is anything but an atrocious writer.
What’d you do there?
My favorite Spiderman and you hivemind memelords can't convince me it isn't great.
I just liked the cover, chill out homeboy. No need to have an aneurysm
I worked for licensing and brand assurance
Why would anyone waste their time with a Spider-Man fan that can't even spell Spider-Man?
I never liked it because I was reading the slightly older Untold Tales at the time.
