Do you support your local comic book shop?
Do you support your local comic book shop?
Fuck no
Yes but only for floppies
Of course. It's the only one within 3 hours of me.
Same
I was going to but my friends don't bring me anymore
Yes and this. My LCS gets in some pretty neat shit.
Fuck no. It's triple the price here compared to web shopping.
No because the guy running it is a fucking dick who would rather play fucking Risk with his buddies all day than help any potential customer. And the trade selection is laughable.
So I drive two towns over to a much better one.
I don't support toy stores for manchildren
I don't have one
I have a local game store I buy warhammer minis from on occasion.
>tfw tabletop shitters take over your local comic shop
Midtown Comics kinda blows at times so no, not really.
Well if it makes you feel any better, MtG players have been taking over a lot of my LGS. I don't know why they think they need full tables for 4 people playing card games.
If you think tabletop players are bad, you've never met (or smelled) MtG players.
I don't have a local comic shop.
No. It's a hole in the wall space ran by a guy who has a shitty attitude. Takes the joy out of the whole experience.
Does dropping a hot steaming shit on the floor and then smearing it all over the merchandise count as ‘supporting your local comic book shop’?
Or how about unzipping my pants, wiping out my dick and shooting ropes of jizz all over the Harley Quinn statues?
My LCS has more pop figures than comics and manga together. And the owner is called Algernon is exactly the kind of mouth breathing neckbeard you'd expect with that name.
Yes and i have found many amazing deals there. Some stuff OOP that was discounted, some really cool extremely underground stuff, and the workers know my tastes so will lots of times we will chat about new stuff and recommend each other stuff
You’re goddamn right I do
Yes, I have a great one that imports stuff from america and sells for incredible prices. Plus the guy is really nice and somehow has read every comic in existence and gives great recommendations
Nah because my LCS owner fucked one of my buddy's girls so I only ever go when the store is 50% off and he's losing money.
Any time a Goon book comes out I go to the LCS to buy it. Along with books for my nephews age 9 and 7
I bought my nephew the first book in this series. Which I just found out about and plan to get him the rest he can casually read over summer.
I happily would if it were local in any sense of the word and not an hour's drive away.
Forgot pic
>Move to new area
>LCS is comically small compared to old one
You mean...buying stuff from them?
Yes?
Does it still have a good selection of new and old stuff?
old stuff is SUPER hit or miss and their TPB collection is small as fuck but they're pretty good with new shit
and they haven't fell for the MTG/Tabletop meme which is a good thing
probably gonna go back because the guy at the desk was pretty cool
Yeah I work there.
I wipe small smears of fecal matter around the store and in between the pages of comics to irritate them.
Man. Back in the day I had a pull box and everything. I think I discontinued it in 2007.
I did when I was in the police academy, because the store was literally across the street. Became friends with the owner too, since he would always have 1310 the Ticket on and we were both Rangers fans.
Then the owner sold the shop and moved to Louisiana to take care of his Dad and the new owner was insufferable. He also started renting out the tables in back for a ton of WH40k tournaments and the smell was just the fucking worst. Haven't been back in a couple years and I have no plans to.
No.
My local comic book shop has been constantly shit for such long time that it's just filled now with shit that nobody would want and nobody would buy.
Even worse having all this crap in his shop he's become deluded that he's comic book specialist now as in only reason why people aren't buying his shit anymore is because nobody knows his shit like him. Yeah because having hundreds of copies of unsold Alf comics from 1980s automatically makes you a purveyor of high art and good taste. The guy self important dick. I'll be glad when fucking cock cheese finally closes down ...
I think I accidentally stole from my favorite one now I can never go back out of embarrassment/sadness
but there's a dozen within 15 miles from me so its whatever, now mostly picking up random old series in dollar boxes after being inspired by Kayfabe
I work there.
>wiping out my dick
your dick sounds like an eyelash
I.... used to.
Are you telling me no one wants anime VHS tapes for $20 a pop?
No. I buy all digital/online
I went to a new one in the area. I found a couple $100 figures I didn't epext to find. Got them and a cpuple other things. Somehow he only rang up one. I ended up going back and he gave me a free shirt and huge coupon for another day.
I live in DC, and I can't support pedophile rings (which LITERALLY every business here is.)
Sounds like a great business opportunity. Imagine all the guys starved for an underground sex trafficking ring that uses adult women.
>Implying lobbiest and politicians want that
>Implying literally anyone else in this Hellcity makes enough money to buy slaves
There's a reason no one is trying it.
Yeah my nearby market has one.
they never have the trades i'm looking for, and when they do they're more expensive than amazon
>tfw 4 comic shops within 30 minutes
>tfw all taken over by pop shit
i wish these modern day furbies would just fuck off
I would if there even is one near me
I don't think my town has one anymore.
I read things like these more often than not even in this economy, where you'd imagine they'd put more effort into staying alive. Too bad they close and complain they didn't have any support or were "driven to bankruptcy" due to Diamond when they themselves failed to keep a healthy business.
I support them by clearing out unsold stock on the cheap. Making room 25 cents an issue and $3 a trade.
Yes. I spend way too much. Admitted I often splurge when there is a discount or clearance, but they still get $2k+ a year from me.
Every comic book shop I've been too doesn't have a lot of Pop shit. Most of them became boardgame/comic hybrids.
If you mean Funko, my LCS always have one shelf of the stuff near the front to be seen, but compared to the amount of space used by action figures or back issues isn't much.
Apparently within my city there are two hardcore collectors who they make most of their money from (and the collectors hate eachother).
Yup and if not I go to 2nd and Charles.
No
>no lighting (if I have to bring a flashlight to your store fuck you)
>only a tiny rack for dark horse, anything other than dc and marvel is basically not sold
>doesn't accept debit(this isn't the 90s, I'm not making a bank trip to buy a couple floppies)
I'd rather support tfaw or literally any other lcs willing to ship me comics
Are they competing for variants?
I would, but There has neven been a comic books store near to my house, it doesn't help I live in a thirdworld country.
I live out in the sticks and i'm an ausfaggot. Every time i go to the city and check out the stores they're always ridiculously over priced. Fuck em.
Recently I got the DC vs Marvel Universe event for dirt cheap. 95 cents a pop because the local used video game/ movie / vinyl store has no goddam idea what they’re doing with comics, they think every comic is worth 95 cents.
I’m not sure who’s more stupid, the idiots who’d sell it for under 95 cents or the people who’d sell it for +10 cents. Either way, cool comics for me.
as a white straight man comic companies now longer produce stories for people like me, so no
Not a clue, just always chuckled at the idea of the only two people serious about this finding hatred instead of bonding over it.
No. I prefer digital download, and they sell Heroclix for way to much.
I tried getting into Heroclix, way too much random chance for it to be fun though
this one shop was selling a white lantern sinestro for $70
I would buy them for the novelty.
Yeah I go in to pick up my small pile and a few trades, though it’s a choice between the local shop over the mountain or the more corporate shop up the street. I try to hit up the local guy as much as I can (though he can get annoying to talk to since he’s far to political) but I’m not to loyal that I can make that trip all the time since the other trip is literally in between me and work. Though a few weeks ago the LCS was selling the spiderman movie variant for 10 bucks, I didn’t have that much of an interest in the book so I didn’t get it but stopping into the corporate spot later I got it for cover price, so I don’t know if it’s actually going to appreciate in value but I have it
Yea, I just buy singles online and lowball on ebay for pieces I really want. The game is fun for causal play. Paying $15 for a booster for 5 random pieces which would probably cost $1-$2 a figure is no fun. I'll once in the blue so a sealed for a new event but I still feel I'm wasting money because of shit pulls.
Based lmao
*Spider-ham movie varient
I don't have one near me :(
What kind of man gets cheated on with an owner of a comicbook store?
This. We got a brand new shop made specifically for comics by a guy who started off wanting to sell some of his old stuff and new stuff and BAM! A year later most of the clientele is either there playing DnD or looking at/buying Mtg cards. Pathetic. Plus his Cerebus trades are way to over priced
what really sucks is that a majority of these people have no interest in comics
they'll talk endlessly about the MCU but never skim through an issue
Me too. I get a good discount too and I’ve been going there every week since they opened in 2005.
I can't support them if I don't have any comics I want to buy at the moment.
>I’m not sure who’s more stupid...
You, for wasting 95 cents in that shitty comic
I bought like two dozen issues from the dollar box but forgot that I grabbed two from the licensed box
basically stole $15 and feel really bad about it
I recently got back into buying floppies thanks to Kayfabe as well. The shops in my area aren't great though. One has a good dollar bin with a decent amount of interesting indie stuff, and another has a ton of indie stuff, but no dollar bin, so I'm paying out the ass for the trash I buy.
Currently employed at my LCS. Appreciating all the anons who support good stores
Too expensive nowadays...
Plus comic books start to pile up over time.
No, i support my own wallet
I only buy graphic novels on Amazon.
Not as often as I'd like. The one in the tiny town next to me has a kinda small selection of floppies, but is pretty good about used trades. There's more shops with better selection if I go into the city though.
I told you not to suck that girl;s dick
Yes, I do.
My LCS has a great selection, are well stocked, and even if they don´t have it can get it for you within a forthnight, the staff is friendly and knows their shit (still you can engange in friendly banter with all of them), they don´t have too many Pops and they moved the games to a seperate store next door. I dare to say that my LCS is better than 90% of the LCS around.
So why not support them?
>fortnight
Who talks like this
How do comic stores even stay in business these days? All the ones near me sell videogames also which is the only thing they make any money off of.
The only one within an hour of me is an extremely inconvenient drive away and whenever I go there I'm too nervous to talk to people. So no.
Well yeah.
I've been going to my LCS since I was 7, about 22 years now. I've moved a couple of times, so I went from having one of their earliest pull numbers to having one of the higher ones that I forget almost every time they ask me my box number. The staff is generally cool, except for a couple of dudes who think it's funny to clown on me for no reason at all just because they've seen the long-term employees do it. The store is considered a catch-all, they even used to rent anime tapes back in the day, so they have more than just comics and action figures. Yeah the POP section is growing, but not so much that it takes over the store. I think my worst non-other customer experience there was when some new employee accidentally gave someone else my books, one of which had a signed cover from a weekend signing I hadn't been able to attend so a friend did me a solid...this was like 8 years ago and I'm still a little mad.
I've also worked for/volunteered for a number of local shops, all of which are now closed, so I might be cursed? Hate a LCS near you? Get them to hire me, it'll be dead within a year.
By becoming general 'hobby' stores
Yeah I get 20% off floppies. Can't bring myself to buy any trades unless it's mad obscure because instocktrades is too good.
I think I paid 5 for all of em. JLA vs. Avengers is obviously the book people want but this book is pretty fun. And for power level nerds the cards in the back are kinda cool.
I literally only go to play TCGs and buy TTRPG stuff. I don't read comics except the ones story timed here or on other forums. They haven't had a locals for quite awhile though, so I sinnced stopped going.
Look I wouldn't believe it if I were you either but I have a literal 9/10 chad running my LCS, it's miserable.
didn't carry Iron Sights, so had to shop elsewhere
>2019
>visiting brick and mortar stores
We don't still do this, do we guys? You know only cucks do that...
Yes, I just got home from mine.
Sometimes, but only because I think the owner is a really great person and extremely inviting. Her shop is pretty small and doesn’t have much that I can’t find elsewhere and cheaper, but I like to buy from her store since she’s nice, the atmosphere is cozy, as opposed to all other comic shops I’ve been to, and she has a great deal running where every 10th graphic novel/manga you buy is free if you give our email. Overall it’s always fun to go there, so thank you Yea Forums I think I’m gonna stop in tomorrow before work. Well done.
I only buy directly from authors.
The feeling of receiving a physical book mailed from the author's house with a sticky note saying "Thank you!" is great.
