Web Of Venom: Ve'Nam - Venom by Donny Cates Storytime

So Cates decided that to fill in gaps in his run he'd do little one shots that explain some things in a series called Web of Venom. This one fills us in on a supporting character from Venoms first arc, Rex Strickland. This is potentially the dumbest name for a Venom book out there, but damn if it isn't clever.

Welcome to hell. Welcome to Ve'Nam

Fun fact: Initially when Cates turned the script in for this book editorial they wanted him to change the characters name and appearances to reflect that of The 'Nam, a famous 80s Marvel book about, you guessed it, Vietnam.

Apparently it was too much of a golden goose for Cates though, and so he said no. He still references the same location and timeframe tho

According to last week's Wolverine & Captain America: Weapon Plus, this is now Weapon V.

Good to know user. Did they do much with the Symbiote in it? Or was it just a passing reference?

A passing reference so far, they'll probably expand on it more in later issues.

Giving me some major Megatron in Bay Transformers vibes here

What time period is it set in? Modern day I assume? Because pre-Flash/Eddie I guess it wouldn't have been known as Venom

Thanks OP. Where is this issue collected?

Present day.

Cap and Logan break into a hastily abandoned Weapon Plus base, and there's a board that has "Project: Venom" (the informal name for the revived version of the Sym-Soldier Program that produced Agent Venom) on a board (under "Weapon V") with Fury listed as the one who started it.

delete the thread and try again

The thumbnail looked like a racist caricature.

As far as I can tell its not been yet? They may be collecting all the Web Of Venom stuff together for a release at a later date, I assume alongside Absoloute Carnage

Patience user

Ah interesting, so there was 3 other types of super soldier before 1966? Which where they?

Weapon I was Captain America.

Weapon II involved animal experimentation. It produced things like the obscure, campy super team Brute Force (animals wearing powered armor) and the Wolverine-ish Squirrel from the Howard the Duck/The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl crossover.

Weapon III produced the Skinless Man (a Fantomex villain).

Weapon IV was Ted Sallis's attempted recreation of the Super Soldier Serum.

Weapon V was the Sym-Soldier Program.

Weapon VI was the Noah Burstein experiments that produced Luke Cage, Warhawk, Bushmaster, etc.

Weapon VII produced Nuke.

The haven't really gotten into Weapon VIII, and Weapon IX somehow involved Typhoid Mary.

Everyone knows Weapon X.

>Ah interesting, so there was 3 other types of super soldier before 1966? Which where they?

Weapon II - Brute Force marvunapp.com/Appendix4/bruteforceanimals.htm

Weapon III - Skinless Man introduced in Remender's X-Force

Weapon IV - Man-Thing

It's just continuity porn and very bad continuity porn.

Please, please tell me Brute Force are heavily featured because that at least sounds fun.

Weapon XI was Wade right? How many weapons are we up to now?

They were in stasis.

The bear was activated and forced to fight Steve and Logan, who had to mercy kill it.

And yes for those who don't know, Rex is in fact the Symbiote.

That's us finished for today, I'll hopefully be back tomorrow to storytime #7-#12 and another Web of Venom one-shot. Hope you guys enjoyed, bump the thread for other anons and all that jazz
