How Would YOU do Titans?

It's very clear there is SOME kind of audience for Titans, but clearly no real vision in recent years that's remotely...interesting? So, what would YOU do? Line-up, over-arcing story, character ideas, etc.

For me, I'd do something with the original 5 in the current DCU. Bring back Dick's memories to an extent, Wally still healing from HIC, Roy brought back to life somehow, Garth recovering from the depression he fell into, Donna trying to be the hopeful one of them all. I would want them to have some kind of road trip across America, trying to remember what made them friends and heal as they face off against some old villains that Rebirth/New 52 didn't bring back.

I think you're on the right track with that OP. Titans really needed more scenes of them just paling around watching movies, eating pizza, etc. instead of jumping from crisis to crisis with no down time. Generally I feel Titans would benefit from having a more relaxed vibe with it's cast. These guys have been friends for years and rarely acted like it during the run.

Leave the Titans franchise to the actual teens and young heroes and let the adult Titans move on with their lives instead of tying the same shit with them over and over and it never working.

There's no place for them since now, they're just grown-up sidekicks in a world where the Justice League exists

They could maybe move to a far-away planet and be the "Justice League" there

OP here, I think there's potential for that too. Considering that we've been told over and over again that these characters will be better than their mentors someday, maybe them being a Justice League of their own would be interesting if on a galactic scale. Similar to what they're doing with JL:O right now, but more as a precursor to the Legion instead.

Large revolving cast, YJ style. Smaller squads for different missions. Multiple storylines occuring simultaneously

they really need that comfy vibe, the friendship between these characters is honestly the best part about them. They're childhood friends, they should act like it.

Titans: Sabbatical

Late at night in the hospital, Wally is tormented by visions of Roy Harper. He believes he's in the throes of guilt until Roy grabs Wally by the throat and tries to strangle him to death. Panicked, Wally busts out of his cell and flees to the last person on Earth he can trust: Dick Grayson, only to discover he's still completely amnesiatic, and has just barely escaped with his life from an attempt on his life by Slade Wilson, risen from the dead. Across the country other heroes they know are being accosted by spirits of the vengeful dead, some they know and some not. Donna Troy is dragged beneath the Earth by Amazons who claim she abandoned them, and Cyborg is nearly beaten to death, to his horror, by his own mangled skeletal corpse, missing the pieces that still remain as his own form. And in the midst of it all Damian Wayne tracks down his older brother to begrudgingly demand his aid: the Teen Titans have vanished.

Joined by Aqualad, Cyborg, Beast Boy and "Slobo", a risen dead who claims to be their friend, the three set out on a cross-country trip to escape the ghosts of the past risen to haunt them and discover where their friends are being taken, and for what purpose.

I like the concept, would you want the end result to be the fusion of past Titans teams and YJ? Slobo returning would be nice, but I feel like Crush works pretty well in that role now.

again, I think it's the lack of vision for these characters that's holding them back. I don't want Dan Abnett retreading old storylines or ridiculous crisis level threats with dumb changes to these characters that don't make sense. I just want some change that's natural for them, like Wally finally moving on from his family or Dick coming closer to being better than Batman.

Slobo would join the Titans while Crush would remain with Damian's team. The villain I had in mind would be a primal god of death from Perpetua's creation, that after her sealing split into two beings: Baron Samedi and Trigon. Its goal is to peel back the layers of time using death as a tool - every time a "layer" of dead and forgotten characters returns, reality inches closer to how it remembers things as being. But its flaw is that it has been affected by the alterations of reality too, and has the lingering resentment toward the Titans Trigon acquired, so it can't help but reveal itself a bit too early trying to kill them.

The cast would slowly grow with the ongoing as different Titans and YJ lineups join the cast until it's basically the ultimate reunion, with odd alterations occurring to them as reality gets peeled back to shake things up.

A lot of what’s already been said. Make the setting a co-ed dorm type thing, make the ‘03 cartoon cast regulars with other revolving slots, Dick is fully back, but swaps out with Tim when he needs a break. Maybe even give Jason a coupe guest spots.

Jason and Roy need to have a solo arc of some kind leading some new-ish members, maybe reveal Jason was a member at some point but it was ripped from reality.

the alterations would be a decent way to introduce some kind of over-arching conflict, even some fun one-shots about reality warping in a dumb way.

honestly should keep the cartoon line up seeing as its the version everyone knows (toss in some of the original dudes too)

they never actually go on adventures and just hang around a bar every issue and nothing ever happens

OP here, FUCK I want that now. Roy running a bar despite being an ex-alcoholic while Jason tries to do get-rich-quick schemes with him. Garth essentially being Charlie while Dick and Wally keep failing to pick up women, Donna getting hammered daily, etc.

Just run an alternate book like this titled something like Titans: Afterhours. It’ll sell better than King’s Batman

Making the series more "comfy" would definitely go a long way I agree. The Titans 2016 run was riddled with cosmic crisis after cosmic crisis

But Dick will never be better than Batman.You are asking for the impossible. Just like trying to keep these adult characters stuck in a franchise that is designed for teens and expecting them to suddenly be treated like proper heroes like the JL. The more you try and force them to be stuck as Titans the more you stunt their growth as adults.

Dick will never be better than Batman because he will never match Bruce’s autism. Not only in detective skills, but sheer attention to detail in fighting techniques. Bruce has, and should always, have a pure autistic savant ability for detection and fighting. Dick is far too of a normal dude to ever surpass him

I think having too many teams is a problem when the teams end up battling similar types of foes/issues (for example, when you have Super Sons, Red Hood, Titans, Teen Titans, Justice League, JLA, Green Lanterns, etc.) it starts to become very same face - so unless you really enjoy someone's art, or the humor (assuming it's done well), it gets very tedious.
