Obviously those are all jokes about him being that old or being 104. I would say the writers were being very legitimate when they set his age originally at 81. No 100 plus year old man could operate and mange a nuclear power plant like that.

I don't think he was. There was definitely a recent episode where he was a young man in the 1950s and dating a singer or something like that.

There are vets born in 1927 who are only 92. Keep in mind the population over 85 in 1945 was only like 2 million max, now it's something like 20 million- and that's not because the population overall is larger, it is entirely because people are living longer.

So hypothetically as time passes and a few thousand people born in 1927 hit 120 in 2047 the technology could advance so that some of them could live past 130

Season 8's Burns, Baby Burns has Burn's 25th Yale reunion in 1939 (or 1941), placing his graduation in 1914 (or 1916).

Then again $pringfield (or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Legalized Gambling) has him in clothes that indicate a period between 1846 and the 1870s at the earliest, but riding in a bumper car (which wasn't invented until 1920) by which time that style of dress was long out of fashion.

The Old Man and the Lisa has him invested in - without realizing it's worthless - "Confederated Slave Holdings", a whole load of 1920s/30s products, and "that up-and-coming Baltimore Opera hat company" which given the BOC wasn't formed until 1950 somewhat confuses the picture.

He's not "a specific age". He's just very old and it's played for laughs. Even early on you could argue he had to be 150 years old based on on-screen evidence. He's not. It's just funnier that way.
