It's fine for concept art and character doodles to look rough, and it's not a new phenomenon at all. For example, the 1995 storyboard scene in your image isn't drawn with that much detail all the way through; pic related is from the exact same scene.

Spotting animation mistakes would be one thing, but it doesn't really matter what these characters look like in doodles that don't even appear in the final movie.
