"God, cal-arts is ruining cartoons, everything looks the same!"

Everything has looked the same, always. You're just alive now to complain about it.

>copy pasting styles of specific shows from said era
>not copy pasting artstyle from said era

>this statement has been true for a long time, therefore it isn't true

what is this logic

This is less copying a general style of an era and just shamelessly taking the entire aesthetics of a specific show and applying it to SU. And the last one manages to still be the worst.

yeah no cartoon in the 50's looked like that

its astrobob

I'm pretty sure that's astroboy. In fact, most of these are just faces picked of a single show instead of being generalized styles like

>implying Simpsons was the predominant style in the 80s, when the Tracey Ullman Simpsons in 87 didn't even look like that
>not the anime/pseudo-anime look due to licensed shows and outsourced asian work
Leave Yea Forums. Never return.

Steven is ugly no matter what style he is drawn.

read the post again, because clearly you don't know what OP is trying to say

I'm not saying it's not true, I'm saying it's not a complaint worth talking about, and a bit like complaining that the weather changes occasionally.

came here to post this

2000s and 2010s look the same

What cartoons looked like that in the 2000s that weren't Billy & Mandy?

Attached: 1476808638296.png (1020x1370, 1.66M)

>implying that Popeye, Pinocchio, Astro Boy, Elroy, Shaggy, Leon Kompowsky, Dexter and Billy represent the entirety of their (on occasion, anachronistic) decade

50's steven looks so fucking cursed.

agreed. OP is disingenuous and consequently, a faggot. Saged.

1980's looks best imo.

80s looked anime, but not in a bad way. 90s had the best technical animation.

god pepipopo is such an attention whore

that's all of these images

Attached: Dy-puEXX4AMT5V7.jpg (1812x2047, 253K)

Attached: D5K-yFuW0AAUL7T.jpg (906x1024, 82K)

90s and 2000s should be switched, Daria style was closer to thick-lined Flash animation.

>draw character in the style of one particular show/a character from one particular show that isn't necessarily representative of the style of the time
this is so fucking lazy.

>the actual gumball design looks like a stiff piece of shit even compared to the laziest rip offs in the pic

that's embarrassing.

Top Cat was a good show.

Just calarts cope. Laugh and move on.

>This guy is a professional paid artist for Cartoon Network
>I'm still looking for a job

Life sucks

user do you really think they paid decent wages or have good job security at a ratty has-been cable network

Honestly the state of animation is much better now than it was in the 2000's and vast majority of 2010. Lots of good auteur driven animation getting produced that used to never be possible, like Peepoodo. Even back in the edgiest part of the 90's when Simpsons and Mike Judge and south park, they were still beholden to corporate executives and investment groups. Now things are getting made that have no right to exist but do, and it's pretty awesome.

Nah it's just an intern.
roopiedoo.com/cn-internship

Isn't that Starfire? Why wouldn't they just use her design from the original Teen Titans cartoon if they were showing the evolution of design archetypes?

Because they're stupid.

yeah, I really don't get it.
especially considering dexter's lab was really more of a late 90s cartoon, and teen titans is literally from 03 to 06.

I also don't get the 60s one being basically judy jetson, 60s era star fire would def have that alex toth space ghost look.

They are all pretty lazy. I don't think the guy who made this really spent more than half an hour on the whole thing

>skips an entire decade

Attached: 1544749199907.gif (477x512, 3.3M)

The cartoons from the 90s were on for 20 years

Not a cartoon.

Attached: d6f[1].jpg (403x389, 19K)

Technically Astroboy is anime

OP's image works great as showing different artists' styles, but that really doesn't represent the majority of their decade. The Simpsons style was only used for The Simpsons. That's like saying that everything in the late 90's/early 2000's looked like South Park because South Park had very distinct style.

Yes everyone knows that 80s had the sexiest characters (thanks Japan) but the animation sucked.

this one doesn't make sense, she has actual designs in multiple eras depicted. Especially in the 2000's.

probably because the original Titans cartoon was heavily inspired by Japanese animation, but the image is trying to show the progression of western animation.

>community college art student posting their work

how is this for 00s?

Attached: 00's.png (806x1000, 108K)

Someone did a Star Vs one of these that looked a lot better

Looks suitably generic to me. A little Hanna Barbara-esque, but that's appropriate for the CN house style around that time. Doesn't capture the Klasky Csupo style, but that really only existed at the beginning of the decade.

accurate.

I'd argue that ignoring the anime influence on western animation in the 00s is pretty irresponsible if you're trying to make a visual history.

Looks like discount Adam Lyon, but MGPAM has the most basic 00s artstyle so it works.

>80s references are all girls
Is the artist trying to tell us something?

Attached: 1521991538042.jpg (547x499, 51K)

>Evil Con Carne, Camp Lazlo, The Fairly Odd Parents, Kenny the Shark, The Buzz on Maggie, Danny Phantom, Time Squad, and Kids Next Door
And that's only off the top of my head.

I want /ss/ of the 80's boy

Attached: 1550429962891.jpg (256x259, 12K)

shouldn't the 2000
s starfire be the starfire of teen titans?

At no point did all cartoons look like dexters lab or billy and mandy. Thats why people don't like these images, it's implying an entire decade had a specific artstyle. Simpsons came out in 89.

Betty Boop then.

No. Quit browsing with your eyes closed.

Technically no one gives a fuck, it existed long before the term was even coined.

It annoys me how the 90s are always defined by the "zany dynamic" look, which wasn't prevalent until the last 2-3 years of the decade. Most 90s cartoons looked nothing like that, and the ones that did were utter shit. Going from series like B:TAS, Gargoyles, Spider-Man, X-Men, Prince Valiant, Mighty Max, Johnny Quest - even the cheesier ones such as Biker Mice and Swat Kats - to "zany" tripe was a massive disappointment. It felt like things were being dumbed down to the lowest common denominator, rather than trying to expand your horizons or even teach you something about life and the world.

>2000s and 2010s look the same
now you get it!

>the 30s character is drawn similarly to the modern character not out of coincidence but to trick you into associating the current shitty style with the golden age of animation
Scum.

Attached: Dissapointbruce.png (274x273, 89K)

I like how instead of accurately portraying the rubber hose art style they just take the normal Steven Universe and make him more Disney-like. Fuck off.

Attached: 1530909521378.png (1047x473, 427K)

This is the best niche meme I have seen in YEARS holy S H I T hahahahahaha

>cherrypicking art styles that probably pertained to one or two shows from the era at most

Retard

Yes. More importantly, there's a shit ton of varied animation styles produced in many forms of the vast media entertainment industry. Why are these stupid niggers focusing on children's cartoons way out of the intended age group? Go watch anime, Western cartoons with higher age ratings, video games, etc. Of course all of these have their fair share of garbage drama, so maybe it's just that people are inclined to bitch about effectively nothing.

The 50s are bothering the fuck out of me. It was the decade when television blew up and animation had to adapt to the new medium with limited animation. If anything it should be represented by the HB style.

It's still the starting point for anime, even if the term didn't exist at the time it was made.

Hell the Dreadnoks from G.I. Joe could be used as extras for Hokuto no Ken

When will it fucking stop. I just want the entire coast of california annihilated and every person living or hoping to live there wiped from existence. It's like having a toddler at the driver's wheel and every time you try to correct them, they have a temper tantrum before they start crying about how you're making them feel like less of a human being.

Am i the only that feels that these images arent trying hard enough? I tried very hard recreating 60s manga style in my own way for fun and it kinda looks like a 60s manga artstyle

>"lol theres nothing wrong with cartoons, you're just a crab nazi"
>meanwhile CN has yet another daily 4 hour block of TTG while weakly pushing their new content
yeah, cartoons have always been bad and misguided like this. people are totally going to remember Craig of the Creek vividly years after it's cancelation with it's coma-inducing plots.

70's is a chunky boy

These all fucking suck. No wonder cartoons nowadays look terrible if people like this can't even properly identify and recreate styles. The only one who gets it right is and of course it's Harry Patronizing.

Attached: 1532076714621.png (544x339, 299K)

No, the best thing about going to CalArts is not realizing you're meant to be networking and making connections that will get you work regardless of skill and talent and ending up wasting years of your life and hundreds of thousands of dollars on courses you can find online and practice in your free time.

For posterity.

Pepi is chill, tho

An industry crash should purge these fools

Attached: sweet.png (661x631, 59K)

and Burn every aspiring animator and promised young lad out there with actual good ideas

i remember in the 2000s when everyone looked like billy, the jew year as they called it cuz every character had a gigantic nose, oh wait, they didn't and this image is retarded

didn't even realize who she was until the last one

Not 50's

It fits with the typical trend of the 00s. Fairly Odd Parents, My Gym Partner is a Monkey, Camp Lazlo, Billy & Mandy, My life as a teenage Robot, and absolutely everything that came out of Canada.

Klasky might not really represent the time well since they died in the 00s and no one else really imitated the style so it did not spread. I think a good second choice would be all the shows that imitated anime of the era like Avatar, Teen Titans, Transformers Animated, Ben 10, every show produced by Marathon,

Go back to Yea Forums.

Imagine grasping at straws this badly

>Evil con carne
Sure
>The rest
No lmao

Even if that happened, while a lot of cockroaches would be exposed, the truth of the matter is that it wouldn't be a reset on the past several years. Not a definitive one. So long as corporations need fast and easy money, they'll keep hiring talentless hacks who can quickly churn out subpar cartoons.

irony: there were cartoons in the 2010's that didn't look like that

Attached: redakai_5436.jpg (290x350, 47K)

Now guess which ones were successful.

It's called spoiler]Milftoons, look it up./spoiler]

that style of humans in the 90s looked like shit but everything else looked great

He's talking about the Rocko's Modern Life kind of art style. Which was not at all what every 90s cartoon looked like.

Ah, The Simpsons. Truly the defining series of the 80s.

It was on in the 80s and spawned a massive fandom. Don't pretend you actually know anything just because you read a wiki article

The idea of that thing enduring in culture for almost a century is sickening.

>spawned a massive fandom

Yes. In the 90s.

This is like saying James Bond, specifically referring to the Sean Connery movies, is a 50s franchise because of that Casino Royale TV adaptation in 1954.

Steven just doesn't look good in any style. 70s is actually the one he looms good in.

>realizing we'll circle back to the something similar to the 70s-80s style when the digital animators get paid even less than they do now in the next couple years and they revert to only animating a few mouth/hand movements with computer software filling in the rest

Attached: 1436140912868.jpg (280x210, 22K)

It's probably going to look more like early 00s era flash/Canadian toons. Toon Boom just made puppet animation 1000 times faster and easier to accomplish than before. Now a crew of say 3-4 people can piece together shots and animate them in just a matter of days.

Background painting might be the slowest part of the process at this point.

>Canadian 2000s flash

jesus FUCK i hope we don't have to deal with that hell again

Literally ever animation studio in the U.S. is located either in Burbank, CA, or Atlanta, GA.

Even then, they STILL outsource almost all their animation to South Korea, so why not just blame the South Korean slave-laborers pumping out all the "Western" animation?

This is by far the best one because it's the only one that doesn't fixate on really specific shows in the given decade

What the heck? This is actually pretty decent.

>80's Marco
And here I thought 34 of Princess Marco was the gayest thing I'll ever see with him.

>90's
>NO recycling
lol, OK, that got me.

It has good and weak points.
>40's is just a Disney princess flick reference
>50's looks like it's just the Charmed opening
>80's is purely She-Ra
>00's is just fucking Danny Phantom

On the other hand 30's, 60's and 90's represent the style of a lot of popular cartoons at the time. 70's is borderline since while that mystery solving traveling teen band spam that was the result of Archies, Josey and the Pussycats and Scooby-Doo having success was representative of the time, it makes no sense for Star to just be another of those conveyor shows.

But yeah, it's a neat drawing regardless.

90s is too perfect

Good, but not perfect. Aside from the dumb corporate "educational" stuff, there was also a lot of really fun and creative stuff around. A time before the lame "cool" fully morphed into stupid "extreme" and then turned into a self-parodiy, in-between those it was actually cool and edgy in a good way.

>80s Marco has hearts on his nipples

its the little things

>80s
>mid-90s Simpsons

fucking retard

But a lot of shows were trying to be anime in that time period

Why do I want to smash 70s Star so bad? How does Hannah Barbera managed to make qts on a low budget?

Some Drawfag better do another pic of that 80's Bow/Fisto Marco

Janna also has Marco's House Keys

dont forget ren and stimpy and its legion of imitators, you heathen

Either the rot continues or you purge it while you can. When you try to kill cancer you kill a lot of healthy cells no matter what.

What is the 90's one supposed to be styled after? I don't remember any cartoon looking like that

Burger King Kids Club

What the fuck. That's a defining element of 90s animations? Are you fucking kidding?

>no 20s example
garbage chart

Attached: angry-ozzie.png (220x234, 6K)

>50's is off-model astro boy

why does every retarded art student do this?

This, really well done. This is a character that could easily be in My Gym Partner is a Monkey or Billy and Mandy

the problem isnt that they all look the same, its that the recent style trend is unintentionally ugly as fuck

Attached: 1492391096355.png (1240x580, 212K)

Attached: model03.png (968x486, 886K)

Neck growing....Guess he is getting his beatings.

Takeuchi > Maeda > Ebisawa > Uchiyama > Aoshima

anybody saved the last fixed version of the Astroboy Steven (the good one)

Just watch fucking Anime, Jesus, if you hate cartoons so much and want quality anatomy and perspective watch Anime. There are like a thousand of them each year.

No No No 80s Marco should need to look like a outsourced anime.

Attached: steveboyJ.png (1057x1213, 162K)

fuck off, he is a fella chump, also his art has indeed improve.

That's about 200% better than the one in OP's pic. Really shows that artist wasn't even trying.

who drew this?

Here one from the first time this bullshit was posted

Attached: ss+(2015-11-25+at+03.12.21).jpg (875x806, 106K)

>snow white

>2000s
Ok this guys just fucking with us

Attached: 1551557599992.jpg (431x341, 53K)

>posts image where no character design is the same
>claims they’re the same

What did OP mean by this?

It's pretty much the same idea, short, angular, silhouette, bold outlines, mouth and nose are connected

Snow White is not 40s
Bewitched is not 50s
80s is *Not* outsourced anime
90s is Burger King Kids Club, not a definitive animation style of the era
00s is just Danny Phantom with no changes

So you are basically the same level of fucking retarded as OP huh?

This is shit
