Any built up or anticipated characters who ended up being disappointing to you?
I was hoping Globgor would be like Bowser where he had a deep voice, would roar, still be a bit monstrous but still love his kid and be a sweet dad. Maybe his scary mannerisms would justify why people were scared of him.
Instead, he had zero edge to him and was just a soft singing singer and poet.
people were scared of him because he literally eats people
Oliver Jackson
That whole entire family. Eclipsa. Globgor. Meteora (back in mid-S3 when all we knew was that she was their child and half-monster).
They all suck.
Nathan Ortiz
>disappointment So the entirety of SvtFoE?
Bentley Davis
Isn't the only person he hard confirmed ate was King Shastacan? All his other rampages and atrocities are just mentioned about things he did in the past off-screen.
Talking about a backstory doesn't make the character actually monstrous when the audience never gets to see it and when all the ramifications of his actions are brushed off as, "We can fix it!".
Oliver Rogers
Eclipsa said he ate people regularly before they started dating
Cooper Rodriguez
I was expecting him to be like Melissa but an adult male and a bit dorky like Doctor Who. Also expected him to be more actively involved with the plot.
He said himself that he liked to eat miners (minors)
It was also strongly implied that he got hard having their little dicks in his mouth and would jerk off while swallowing and imagining them traveling down his throat to reach his stomach and digestive system. Sometimes he'd tie a little string around Eclipsa's waist and dip her down in there too so she could see what it was like
John Torres
*The Doctor from Doctor Who
Carter Smith
Toffee himself wasnt a disappointment. What was disappointing was how little time he got and how he was destroyed instantly. I just wanted more of this kino lizard and less of everything after his death.
I usually don't care about lorefags, but the people that came up with Toffee theories are the few people i feel sorry about. To think that people put energy in a character that was never explored to beggin with because ''expected subvertions xD'' feels so dirty.
Brody Brooks
I'm one of those people. Though I directed it toward Naruto back in the day. All those ideas far better than the source material...
He didn't even have a connection with Eclipsa despite the name.
The show ended with Toffee.
Connor Bailey
Yellow's fucking face
Lincoln Lee
id say white was the one that really belongs ITT
Mason Reyes
Yeah, but there's no flair to it.
Liam Ross
White was a good villain desu...for the few minutes she was onscreen. Up until they redeemed her in a rushed ending. What a waste.
Dominic Turner
The funniest part of this that they're looking at the Off Colors. White's strained "hello" was the best
Jack Morgan
How do they fuck
Daniel Jones
he's a size-shifter who climbs up into her vagina and masturbates. sometimes she yells at him to find her g-spot, depending on her mood.
or I GUESS we're actually supposed to assume he shrinks to a more realistic human size and they fuck normally, but that's just so boring
William Martinez
this was actually addressed, she changes size which is kinda stupid, why be huge in the first place? it has the same problem as SnK, if scale is the main point of your story, then your story has no actual point
Literally everything about them is the most boring shit imaginable. They probably had sex once after marriage in the missionary position for the sole purpose of procreation with the lights off.
Logan Howard
yup it was really weak I hate how americans feel the need to SUBVERT expectations in nucartoons
It's not even subverting expectations. It's just deflating anticipation here. A subversion is when you redirect from the anticipated outcome to a more interesting variation. This is building up a scary or exciting thing, then just doing nothing instead.
Christopher Rodriguez
Who is he? I seen him around but don’t know what
Leo Moore
He's a character who only appears in the Spellbook but whom some expected to see in the show. Pretty much just a well-known Septarian who was against monsters integrating with Mewmans and influenced the comparatively younger Septarians like Toffee and Rasticore, but was old as fuck by the time of Moon's mother's assassination and so wasn't personally involved.
The way he was presented in the book did seem almost like it could be a hint for something in S4, but yeah in the show there's literally no mention of him at all.
Kayden Gutierrez
Is more of being disappointed at the writers then the character
>diamonds try to murder the off colors and force them to live in hiding under the ghetto homeworld catacombs all their lives >the off colors coming face to face with them in the finale is played off as a joke because steven had instantly befriended all of the diamonds a few minutes prior to this which means they don't have to face repercussions for what they did or apologize to their victims at all If by funny you mean stupid then yeah haha
Jace Martinez
Indeed. By the end of the day we can write our own idealized version of them.
Parker James
This guy was like Celestia and Luna from MLP FIM
Michael Hughes
>Finn gets the happy ending he deserves instead of the hur dur he only 17 so he isn’t suppose to think about it! To be for real Finn and HW have a stable and pure relationship so it’s guarantee these two will be together
Fuck off dude, not evrrything that makes you butthurt is subversion. I was dissapointed with Toffee's treatment as well but it has fuck all to do with subversion, it's just poor writing.
When the first 3 episodes of season 5 hype the final season and then it gets choked by fan fiction-tier writing and pacing on top of a cliche scene trying to be taken seriously. What's worse is that Future Aku never got killed 1v1 and Jack had to cheat by killing the weakened past aku.....Avengers style.
>retarded annoying clown instead of a legitimately threatening villain Gee, I wonder.
Blake Rogers
Execution. Clown villains like Bill is still terrifying, but he had no motivations, shit friends, and jobbed to a bunch of kids and two old men. No one had consequences for even failing the ritual to put him back and Wierd part 2 wasted an entire episode on Mabel rather than focusing on Bill's side of the invasion.
Gavin Miller
There is nothing about Bill Cipher that is "terrifying".
Christian Taylor
>went as far as to retcon his entire backstory to make him less sympathetic on purpose The way canon treats Grievous is seriously terrible.
I hated everything about that guy. Shrinking was the dumbest power to give him as it removes the physical boundaries along with his pussyfoot approach in the show.
Jason Ross
I always thought to myself that time travel is a defeatist mindset, instead of dealing with whatever in the now people could wait in the future or change the past. It’s boring despite being effective.
Cooper Martinez
>hinted to be the biggest threat in the multiverse since his first appearance >so powerful that Prismo couldn't even bring someone he killed back from the dead >Lich refers to himself as the last scholar of GOLB, revealing that GOLB was responsible for his creation >shows himself in the finale, turns the Gumbaldians into a monster, does nothing afterwards and fused wiith Betty at the end Muto is a fucking hack
this entire writing split about the diamonds wouldn't happen if rebecca didn't literally write that all shit about imperfect gems and fusions getting hunted down and genocided. i know it stoked worldbuilding boners, but frankly it would have made more sense if they were just given limb enhancers, severe demotions and viewed as gutter trash. then at least the diamonds wouldn't be evil, just apathetic.
The Character Assassination of Peridot by the Coward Lauren Zuke
Adam Bell
>shows himself in the finale, turns the Gumbaldians into a monster, does nothing afterwards >defeated by being sung at Yeah that was pretty fucking bad.
Lucas Price
AT went to garbage, but people pretended like it didn't for a long time because they insisted the mouldy breadcrumb trail was leading to something fantastic.
Brayden Howard
Kingdok in Bone was pretty disappointing. >first time you see him fight he loses an arm >second time you see him fight he loses his tongue >spends the entire last third of the story in a slow march to where he eventually just keels over and dies >and the only time he's actually threatening he was just a locust illusion
Brody Richardson
it's mystery box !!! if you are a shit writer who does not trust your story, you have to cheat, humans are curious creatures, you can use this they promise something incredible beyond imagination, then you deliver NOTHING !!! if they complain you say that you were playing 4D chess to subvert the expectations, you can also make an erotic novel and melodrama
Actions speak louder than words when it comes to redemption. The fact they're even attempting to not do what they used to is more satisfying than a line in the script that basically amounts to "uh, sorry".
Sorry to disappoint you user, but barn Peridot was part of the plot. She was memey because Lapis had to be placated and she was scared of setting her off.
There's a lot of implied shattering but we never actually see it happen, so it's highly likely that the threat of shattering is more than enough to keep gems in line. There's clearly off colors all over homeworld like the Jades and they've blended in so the Off Colors in the underground are a special case.
Samuel Sanders
I've always felt that Finn should have fused with GOLB at the end instead of Betty.
Joseph Martinez
so what? shatter muh slaves should never have been brought up in the first place. the show staff talks big about grey morality, but what they have is sympathetic villains, not an opposing side with any kind of valid point.
The system was corrupt in the first place. There was never a valid point in what the Diamonds did and I'm not sure why you'd think so.
Austin Brown
The main problem with SU (and many other modern Yea Forums media mind you) is that the writers like the idea of tackling the big issues, but lack the knowledge or knowhow to write about it. So they just slap together a hackneyed, watered down take and then spend all day blogging about how fucking great they are.
Andrew Rivera
Why does Yea Forums have this line of thought? This projection is based on nothing.
Michael Sullivan
stop missing the point you dumb stan. the show had a million opportunities to portray homeworld in a good or even neutral light and it never did any of them. it's very gutless for a show about literal textual eco terrorists. compared to, say, ghibli which they were blatantly trying to rip off- princess mononoke casts a ruthless destroyer of the forest as a good guy, and you believe it. it makes you question what's really important.
You don't have a point user, you're wanting to shit on something for the sake of shitting on it. Homeworld's actions were never painted as positive because they weren't positive. The Diamonds are portrayed as doing awful things because they genuinely believe (through White) it's the only way to exist. They're sympathetic in spite of that because they truly are just part of the system that was clearly put in place by someone even above White Diamond. If you're too dumb to realize that it's your own fault, stop pigeonholing a piece of media because you want things to be nice and easy to understand.
Landon Bailey
>It's a "oh shit I'm done for, call them a fanboy" episode These re-reuns are more tedious than a thousand hiatuses.
Thomas Parker
>when a kids cartoon is too complicated for you to follow He wasn't defeated by singing you dumbfuck, his minions were.
Charles Scott
No fun allowed apparently
Connor Gonzalez
>muh first 3 episodes Fuck you, the 4th episodes was exactly like the first 3 in terms of style and pacing. You literally only hate it because Ashi EXISTS in it. Also, name one (1) thing in SJ that's not a cliche.
Adrian Gray
>They're sympathetic in spite of that because they truly are just part of the system that was clearly put in place by someone even above White Diamond Where is this even implied? You're literally making shit up just to justify the Diamond's tyranny.
Do you actually watch the shows you desperately try to defend or do you just enjoy the thought of sucking up to random creators?
Michael Myers
okay
Adam Thomas
They sung a hole in a guy unaffected by all but specific wish magic loophole fuckery via the power of 'harmonics'.
Tyler Jenkins
Why
Brody Clark
What do you expect from a Keikaku villain that only showed signs of strength in flashbacks, rip his shirt off and fight star like Heihachi? Dude was crippled and the staff would never do something cool like that
