Why is she so selfish?

I don't really remember her ever being that selfish about anything really. If anything she almost became too selfless while training under Pearl.

Some anons have it in their heads that she uses Steven for space adventures or something and doesn't really like him, I don't know why since there's plenty of examples of them just chilling as regular kids with nothing spacey involved but as I've already sperged in this thread at length I'll just post some cute Connverse stuff and leave it at that.

Why is she in the show at all? Other than showing that Steven isn't a total fag she has no purpose. Early episodes had the gems not want Steven coming along because he was just a useless kid that couldn't really help in a fight but was able to summon Rose's shield. Steven fuses with Connie and that seems to be reason enough to teach her sword-fighting and letting her tag along because one nearly-useless human teenager wasn't enough.

Steven is a hybrid, she's a full human. Having a human on Homeworld is what helped actually shift the balance in the CG's favor so I'd say she's earned her place by now. Plus shit, she's Steven's friend. It's not like you need a reason to have a main character there besides that, plus the fusion and sword training were like 25 episodes apart from each other and a lot of shit happened inbetween to necessitate it.

And if you want an additional reason, so the girls in the audience have a surrogate character like Steven is for the boys. That's just a guess though.

People get way too worked up about that arc. Yes after such a long hiatus it wasn't space opera stuff that people wanted. Yes Connie didn't handle the situation how she should have. The whole story was about having a bump in a relationship with someone. Connie was mad at Steven for almost sacrificing himself instead of trying to fight back with them. Steven was upset with Connie because she didn't respond to his texts. In the end they realized they each made mistakes and moved on just like people. It wasn't the high point of the story, but it was still a nice development of their relationship.

The six month thing is key here. It would've been nothing more than a mediocre episode on its own, but the wait makes people crazy sometimes.

She chewed him out only once or twice. But you can tell she's angry a lot by how much he frustrates her efforts to be a superheroine because he cares about her welfare. There are different levels of anger and Connie's selfishness is tempered with some self-control as being Steven's "friend" is her only ticket to the gems.
