Will Hickman save the X-Men
Jaxson Watson
Jackson Martin
Cyclops
Wolverine
Jean
Nightcrawler
Archangel
Monet
Sounds like a good lineup to me. Best get shit done hero team since Ellis' Astonishing.
Logan Watson
Yes. This will the first truly good X-Men run since Morrison, and like that run, a lot plebs will be filtered
Tyler Ross
>first truly good run since
What was wrong with Gillen? Gillen was great.
Dominic Baker
>Gillen
>Remender
>Whedon
>PAD
>Carey
>Bunn
Jeremiah Diaz
I mean truly good as in something would make a list of all-time good comics
Jackson Wright
>Gillen
>Good
Brayden Adams
can't do any worse than the last couple of guys.
Justin Wood
Carey run was good.
Nathan Price
I like that he's holding a sword, more heroes should have swords
Elijah Ortiz
Hickman's said he's not doing a traditional team. A million characters have been on the covers.
Owen Lopez
Don't place any large bets on it.
Daniel Hernandez
And none of them were able to salvage the franchise from the ruins of Bendis's House of M and Decimation.
Whedon in particular should be castigated for his part in doing nothing and allowing Bendis to proceed with HoM and basically killing the franchise.
Michael Sanders
Funny. I haven't read X-men or any current Marvel book since Ellis's Astonishing.
>that shit was a decade ago
My my. How time flies.
Levi Long
I think I actually bought his FF run in trades I found on sale, but never ended up reading them.
Owen Bailey
Yes. This board is as pessimistic as all get out these days but this is a very promising development.
Christopher Campbell
Pretty cool, thanks user
Ryder Sanders
nice blog
Ayden Perez
>will Hickman save the X-Men
Probably not the X-Men have been in a downward spiral since the Quesada years
a) due to the bungling of one BMB as well as
b) the Avengers franchise eclipsing the X-Men and
c) the original 90s demographics that drove the success of the X-Men are only a fraction of the readership.
Hickman can't save the sinking ship when the captain can't even acknowledge they have struck an iceberg and taking in water.
Carter Price
this, but Hickman will get grilled no matter what.
Jackson Price
This is just bloviating. He's setting up a new status quo, none of that matters.
David Anderson
Nothing can save the X-Men.
Jackson Long
>Gillen
>Not awful
Caleb Murphy
The question is if the X-Men books will be good after Hickman leaves. I'm sure Hickman's runs will be good but I'm also sure that the new writers and editorial will go back to the same "mutants are going extinct" or "creating a new mutant nation or safe space that totes won't get destroyed this time" well that they always go to.
Charles Hernandez
There is no saving a franchise that absolutely nobody gives a fuck about anymore.
Notice how the Age of X-Man titles aren't getting storytimed anymore if you want proof.
Adam Thompson
In the shorter term, what other books will they launch and who will work on them? How will fans react if they don't launch any, and it stays just one or two books? Will Hickman still be getting top-tier artists 6 or 12 months into his run?
Elijah James
It absolutely does if
a) he is still held back and beholden to the work of previous writers especially Bendis's work and the status quo that Bendis enacted
b) the X-Men readership is no longer as strong as it was in the 90s and 00s. Buzzwords like new-status-quo aren't going to bring back an audience who have already abandoned the X-Men and comics altogether.
Nathaniel Ross
I have a feeling Hickman will retcon, hell destroy everything done by Bendis.
Jaxson Cooper
What are xmen unit sales now?
Robert Taylor
Hickman can probably be good if the story he is telling is tightly plotted and he limits the overall number of characters he is using. If it's like his run on Avengers, then it's going to be a mess. Just hope it's Ultimates/Fantastic Four Hickman and not Avengers Hickman.
Chase Price
What about Husk?
Jose Ward
>I have a feeling Hickman will retcon, hell destroy everything done by Bendis.
Do you really think any writer will commit career suicide to retcon gay Iceman?
Kevin Martin
I hope he does. I have faith on Hackman.
Elijah Wright
Given how Bendis cucked Hickman on wrting the new LoSH series, yes.
Jose Long
The entirely of Gillen's run will be remembered for is for shilling his OC Unit and his bizarre take on Sinister.
His Breakworld stuff was good though.
Grayson Fisher
Well? Reply here instead of in that thread
Ryan Butler
>Just hope it's Ultimates/Fantastic Four Hickman
That was then, this is now
>Just hope it's East of West Hickman
Jaxon Baker
Gillen is the one that turned Sinister into 'I am gonna create my own nation full of clones of myself and no women because women are unnecessary''?
Jace Brown
Sounds based. Women are useless.
Tyler Reed
>t. incel
Caleb Ramirez
Is Monet still fused with her brother, weird palm mouths and all?
Landon Scott
T.retard
Michael Adams
Imagine the handjobs.
Andrew Morris
based brainlet
Anthony Cox
Imagine when they start talking in her brothers voice.
Carson Howard
I just got caught up on Uncanny and I hope it does end with a total reset because this is trash. I know the books have been trash for years but this is just more of the same crap Rosenbergstein pulled in Astonishing. He claims he loves the X-Men and yet he makes them all total shit (no one seems to take Alex serious or remember he was a leader of the Avengers) and he is killing people left and right. As much as I hated the O5 sticking around so long at least Blue was entertaining, there is fucking nothing right now. I want Hickman to do his own thing and just start it fresh.
Hudson Campbell
Most people know women are useless.
Xavier Rogers
>I'm sure Hickman's runs will be good but I'm also sure that the new writers and editorial will go back to the same "mutants are going extinct" or "creating a new mutant nation or safe space that totes won't get destroyed this time" well that they always go to.
>"creating a new mutant nation or safe space that totes won't get destroyed this time"
It's interesting that you mention this, but this is apparently what Hickman's run is going to be about.
Liam Powell
The covers for Hickman’s run show Magneto back in his Bendis suit for the first time in like 4 years and Scott has his Bendis suit just in blue and without the X visor. It looks like he is going back to Benis not the other way around.
Mason Howard
Incels aren't people.
Samuel Thomas
I think he is actually doing the whole ''new mutant world'' thing but not the ''mutants are going extinct'' shit.
Maybe he is going to do trime travel to shit on Bendis run.
Lucas Sullivan
"No time travel"
Logan Foster
Only Gillen's Sinister stuff was good, the rest of the run was shit.
Jace Wilson
Then how do you explain the different version of characters from different eras? Dimensional travel?
Samuel Taylor
For like 3 years. Then he'll leave and Marvel will fuck it up all over again.
Parker Johnson
Plently of normal men know women are weak.
Connor Powell
Can the xmen move past the bigotry allegory?
Julian Young
Not him, but it's probably going to have flashbacks to previous eras and flashforwards to the future. Hickman has said no time travel and I think we should believe him.
Kayden Moore
@108596842
No (you)s for you.
Luis Lee
Everyone has access to all their former outfits
Lincoln Brown
Maybe he'll shit on Bendis run via flashbacks?
Jason Garcia
No.
Juan Lewis
How are you so sure Hickman won't roast Bendis in his run?
Jonathan Russell
Not a chance. Especially not if that faggot White is still around.
Juan Anderson
They could, but they'd need writers who wanted to move past it. And to replace most of the fanbase, to get away with doing it.
Jeremiah Wilson
possibly unpopular opinion and maybe harsh truth: X-Men are thematically outdated
Hudson Rogers
Cn you explain yourself? Please. I have the same feelign about the X-Men too.
Oliver Howard
No
Andrew Scott
Yes, he also made a shotgun where the bullets are Cyclops eyes.
Mason Thompson
They're beyond saving desu
Cooper Bailey
>Just hope it's Ultimates Hickman
You want me to hope for the Hickman that gave up on a fantastic story by giving it to another writer who completely fucked up the ending?
Caleb Moore
You're not wrong. They need a complete reboot.
Elijah Gonzalez
Gillan run was fun, it was the last time x-men was decent, too bad bendis dropped the ball of the hype
Cameron Collins
>Do you really think any writer will commit career suicide to retcon gay Iceman?
if the MCU ever does straight Iceman (likely since China doesnt like gays) some wrtier will be the fall guy
Noah Davis
equality has mostly been achieved in America and the West. Anything else is just identity politics from tumblrinas or chimping out from mouthbreathing /pol/tards.
The allegory no longer carries as much weight, especially amongst younger generations (from all races) who really don't care about these things and are too divorced from the Civil Rights era/Holocaust/etc to have people like MLK carry as much weight. It's a distant memory to them and he feels more like a symbol or historic person than something really relevant or tangible.
tl/dr version: Times and struggles have changed.
Carter Carter
It's the first Marvel book I'm looking forward to since Vision ended 4 years back.
Ethan Barnes
>muh China
Fuck off
Aiden Price
Please don't speak for normal men, you have no idea what they think
Asher Hernandez
I hope he goes X-Men into Eternals and makes them into a New God-esque pantheon, with supporting characters being like the Forever People.
Jonathan Garcia
Equality isn't as simple as "everyone has the same rights", there's a lot of damage that was done that needs to be repaired. There are still people alive who went to segregated schools, and plenty of deep rooted attitudes that you don't see if you're not the target.
Ian Scott
Lol ur deluded.
Its man and man biased world.
Mason Green
so something like his avengers then?
Michael Howard
I do see them, and I do understand those struggles. But they aren't as prominent as those in the past.
Seems like we are moving into a class struggle more than race/discrimination. Those will always exist, but Peter Parker seems like he's always going to be relevant compared to X-Men peaking from 70s-early 2000s.
Carter Foster
let's see how prominent the supposed LGBT character is in the Eternals and then we'll talk
Jordan Gutierrez
member when everyone said hackman would save the avengers? member how it lead to marvels worst event
I memba
Ryder Reed
>Marvel's worst event
I remember how it leads to Civil War II.
Eli Barnes
secret wars 3 was worse because not only was it a wet fart that did nothing except bring miles to 616, it also tarnished an actual good story and had 3 years of ooc avengers, civil war 2 was at least over relatively quick but hickmans avengers just kept dragging on being awful and the payoff wasnt even good
Noah Ward
>Having this shit taste
Secret wars was a culmination of his story from Fantastic Four and Avengers. The payoff WAS the event. It didn't need lasting consequences post event because it was the Endgame of the storyarc, and it had HUGE reprecussions. Old Man Logan and Miles into the MCU. The Marvel cosmology was completely rewritten. It shelved the FF for quite a while. It was a direct lead into Inhumans vs X-Men. It was a direct lead into Ironheart. It completely got rid of Ultimate Marvel.
But more importantly it was a good STORY that paid off every theme and plot point from the FF/Avengers run. The culmination of the Illuminati machinations. The resolution of the Black Panther/Namor Rivalry. The resolution of the Maker and Molecule Man plots. The resolution to the Cabal storyline. Sounds like you're just bitter or missed the point entirely.
Leo Bell
You are such a faggot holy shit.
Zachary Hall
>Secret Wars was worse than Civil War II
Lincoln Williams
M8 I can name like five events that are way worse than Secret Wars. Stop being a faggot.
Charles Fisher
To be fair, it makes sense for the X-men.
Asher Torres
He is a faggot for what? Understanding Hickman's story?
Blake Peterson
>secret wars 3
You mean 4. Secret Wars 3 was the arc of Fantastic Four where it was revealed that The Beyonders created the cosmic cubes and gave Molecule Man his powers.
Carter Adams
>like 5 that are worse
You'd have a harder time naming 5 that are better, at least if you're only going with line-wide events. Marvel's line-wide events have almost all been trash, going as far back as Secret Wars II, the second ever Marvel event.
Jace Kelly
Everything you mentioned it resolved happened off screen. We keep being told epic things are happening but never see them or they are anti climaxes
Ian Reed
>holy shit you are a faggot for liking what I don't
Gavin Gonzalez
Levi Thomas
Christopher Foster
X-Men went to hell with Magik being half demon and Kitty having a dragon pet. That shit ain't mutant related at all.
Kevin Flores
lolno
Easton Morris
First truly good bait of the day.
Tyler Hernandez
>hickmans avengers just kept dragging on being awful and the payoff wasnt even good
Understatement, but this.
Aiden Butler
And Xavier got crippled by an alien named Lucifer.
Lucas Stewart
Somewhere, Liefeld is seething.
Ian Rodriguez
That shit was stupid too. Everything related to demons, magic and aliens ruined the X-Men. They should have stayed as something grounded.
Chase Edwards
You says this when the team is known for their space escapades.
Christopher Roberts
They were never to begin with.
Also, Xavier's half brother got mystical powers from Cytorrak and Mystique and Rogue were enemies of a Kree hero's girlfriend.
Alexander Murphy
POUCHES FROM THE POUCH DIMENSION!
Connor Parker
Did they ever served for something?
Luke Sullivan
I think Scott used something out of the pouches when he crashed in Australia with Magneto's Acolytes, but don't quote me on that.
Jayden Rogers
>PAD
I miss X-factor.
Jose Watson
I dont know. Either I am going to hate it or love it. It wont be mediocre.
Aiden Ortiz
Wut aliens were part of some of the most iconic x-men arcs.
Caleb Brooks
And the payoff to 3 years of Hickman's Avengers was a Doom/FF event.
Eli Ross
>x-men went to hell in the early 80s
Is that you Kurt Busiek?
Mason Wood
Lol stay mad fag nigger, go back to reading your Benis comics
Connor Hall
Scemma's dinner conversation in Uncanny X-Men 18 was brilliant. The only part of that crossover I remember fondly.
Connor Powell
Nothing will save X-Men. Unless you remove the status quo and make people mess into their affairs since mutants at this point cannot effectively police themselves. Or nerf mutants and make them feel like an oppressed minority.
Ryder Perry
>They should have stayed as something grounded.
At no point were they ever "something grounded."
Andrew Watson
I love Skottie's art
David Martinez
Fucking dope. Along with the Gambit bombs.
Christian Parker
No. Next question, please.
James Bell
I can't get over her getting dug out in the open sky in broad daylight while her parents watch from below.
Joshua Perry
I really like the idea of them wearing different suits like clothes. More heroes should do that from time to time, not just use the suit change as a gimmick to sell more books.
