What is this movie series even about? I can't even begin to recall what the first one was about.
The only "revived Disney take on a classic fairy tale" movie I approve...because at least the first movie had enough divergence from the original plot (through a different POV) to stand on its own.

I really hate the first movie. I despise the fact that in order to make Malificent more sympathetic they turn every good character into evil or stupid, instead of making it more gray or shit.
Also the king cutting her wings was the most retarded move I have even seen in any movie.
So what I'm getting from the trailer is that Pfeiffer is a new villain, and Mal knows about some evil plot, but she hides the details from Aurora because sitcom misunderstanding.
And she's been hunting Maleficent's people to the brink of extinction forcing them into hiding

Its quite the same thing that happened with Don Bluth movies back in the 90s nobody watched those because it didn't have the Disney logo, Anastacia did great because people thought it was a Disney film and many people still think its one.

When they first introduced her childhood story and the narrator said "...and her name was Maleficent" (in spanish her name LITERALLY means Malefic) it already stopped making sense to me.
Why give your good-hearted fairy kid such a name that implies she's everything but good.
And now the sequel calls her the fucking Mistress of Evil. It's dissapointing because she's just going to be nice and full of love again. And, if she does something evil, it's going to be because someone hurt her

This so very much. It could've been an awesome premise. Instead what we got reads like a Sleeping Beauty fanfiction written by Maleficient about how Maleficient was just a misunderstood victim all along. What an incredible letdown it was.
Not to mention the traditional iconography of the devil in Catholic countries, with horns, bat-like wings, and fiery eyes.
