It is quite possible that some flops like A princess of Mars and the necessity to build up their own new streaming service plus the acquisition of Fox studio properties really hurt Disney's ability to make better more thought out movies, which is why they need to make cashgrabs for the next few years.

Not really, historic chinese films are mostly a non-issue (the first big CCP produced movie was this one )
they would rather censor their own movies set in the present time that deal with current issues than PG-13 Hollywood films.

Fun fact - The original Disney's Mulan was supposed to be one of the earliest American films to be a mainstream success on Continental China, but Disney pissed off the mighty communist overlords with their distribution of Scorcese's Kundun about the Tibetans so the commie gob pretty much sabotaged the movie's release killing its chances for success, Chinese people that got to see it didn't like it much anyway because of how different it was from the myth.

I understand they want to be more loyal to the real story, but this is still a remake of Disney's animated series. So, even if they don't like it in China, I'm not interested if they remove the comical character (Mushu), the love interest (Li Shang) and some of the greatest songs ever ("Reflection" and "Make a Man out of you").

I forgot something else. Shan Yu is definitely one of the greatest Disney's Villains of all time. Intelligent, strong, vicious, lethal and no funny side. There's no way they can replace him with something better.

That's not what happened at all. The Northern Song had already fallen and been driven South of the Yangtze by the Jurchens by the time the Mongol Horde had even turned their attention to China to conquer it. So the idea that the Song let anyone in is pretty much bunk.
