I don't think he asked for more money than RDJ, he just ended up being paid more because he wasn't an uninsurable mess. the pay dispute came from them wanting to pay him less for Iron Man 2, which was total bullshit and he was right not to take it.

I personally like Howard more than Cheadle (I think he does the “exasperated friend” role better, which is necessary for Rhodey’s relationship) but I agree that he was right to step away after Iron Man was a success and they wanted him to take a cut on the sequel. It’s just devaluing.
