Is it just me or is this a stupid fucking line? How can Batman know whether or not there are people who are inspired by Superman?

Also, how is being an example that people will emulate not inspiring them to do something?

It was a Meta joke for to the reader, from a writer who thought he was smart.

It's just Geoff Johns meta-wanking. He means when he died was the last time (as of 2006) Superman comics sold well.

imagine taking Geoff Johns writing seriously in any capacity lmao

>Is it just me or is this a stupid fucking line?
well, it's geoff johns, so... yeah it's pretty fucking shit.

by this logic, Dick and Damian for the time they were in charge, did a better job than he did.

Not to mention, I really don't understand what Superman was supposed to have done differently to "inspire" people. The Superman of Earth-2 and other later repeat Batman's point, but it feels hollow because Superman hadn't been acting any differently than he had in the past decades.

They were arguing. Batman wanted to hurt supes. I’m sure you have said shit that you knew would hurt someone even if you didn’t think it true but wanted to win an argument

Yeah, I never understood that. People kept praising this as far back when it was released. But I remembered Superman inspiring people in-universe, like in Morrison's JLA, and other stuff.

It's the sort of meta in-joke like "People think Aquaman" is ridiculous in New 52 Aquaman. I sort of get how both of these work, Johns is taking what the hypothetical general audience thinks of the characters. But it just feels weird when taking into account everything else published up to those points.

Big surprise, Batman is a dick.

Has Batman then reflected about this sentence and how objectively it's unfair?

Batman’s wits beats Superman’s brawn

While we're on the subject the whole thing about Diana being "out of touch" with humanity and everybody hating her for killing Max Lord was fucking stupid as well.

You don't get to kill a baddie and stay on a team with heroes with strict no kill rules.

Yeah, no. Batman was selling over 100k after he come back. Superman didn't have a big hit since his death.

Debatable. Regardless, saying that Diana is out of touch with humanity proves that Geoff Johns had never actually read any Wonder Woman comics. She once worked at a Taco Bell for fucks sake, she's more in touch with the common man that Bruce Wayne will ever be.

No, not debatable. Fact. Batman ought to treat you like a villain and want to bring you in after it.
I agree with the rest of your point, though.

I'm pretty sure that All Star Superman was a good hit.

No it wasn't. DC was pretty much in a slump during that period. They were putting out good books, but didn't how the hell to market them (or else the retailers had Quesada's dick down their collective throats).

And what is Batman currently selling? I don't think it's still around 100k. The whole industry is in crisis.

All-Star Batman and Robin was panned as shit and the All-Star Lineup got dropped because of it. But All-Star Superman was beloved and adored. If anything, Batman was the one who was getting shit pushed in during that times

Neither did Morrison for the bulk of his Batman run until he hit RIP. It's less a downturn and more the fact that Snyder's run was an outlier in terms of sales.

Sure but it got its ass kicked by a slew of Marvel titles at the time. This was during the heyday of the Quesada years when Marvel was doing very well on the business front despite various very questionable creative practices.
