And he will be a blend of Sam and Rich called Sam.
No it'll be Rich but it will have Sam as a major secondary character like a "Oh if only I could be like Nova". Then the sequels start moving toward Sam
Bump
As lead Mall cop #1 who gets replaced midway through the movie by his Mexican understudy.
I don't think Sam would be in the movie. If they want to give him a sidekick or partner, have someone with different powers to play off of, like Quasar.
Personally I feel that if Sam's going to be in the movies then he better get shipped with Kamala so that the comics can finally put their synergy to good use.
That's a really good costume design. Would look great on screen. Where's it from?
Art director of God of War.
Well, that explains why it looks so good. Marvel should just get Santa Monica Studio to do a game for them.
Pretty sure Sam won't be in the movie at all and he'll get shelved for a very long time.
No idea why people think Sam will have anything to do with this. Maybe 10 years from now..
>No idea why people think Sam will have anything to do with this.
Diversity casting
But seriously, I'd bet it's just because Sam is pushed in the comics
My dream is a triple-A Annihilation and Annihilation: Conquest games in the style of PS4 Spider-Man.
His push in the comics had abysmal results and he hasn't been pushed in years.
Everyone who works at Marvel Studios that's been trying to get Nova into the MCU loves Rich, so he's obviously who they're going with.
>I'd bet it's just because Sam is pushed in the comics
The MCU doesn't really work that way (with the exception of Captain Marvel). Rather, it's the movies that end up influencing the comics.
I encourage you to read my post a second time.
How much will they butcher the costume? Will he be stronger than Carol? What are some of the best Nova comics so I pretend I knew about him when the movie comes?
Read the DnA stuff. It's not great, but it's fine popcorn movies.
Yeah I jumped the gun in replying. But I stand by the point I made. Captain Marvel alone is enough of a precedent to not rule out the MCU skipping Rich altogether in order to rush a half-hispanic character (with an admittedly better origin for a movie) into the spot.
>How much will they butcher the costume?
Anything is better than what we saw in GotG 1.
>Will he be stronger than Carol?
That'd be nice, but I don't think they'll mention who's stronger
>What are some of the best Nova comics so I pretend I knew about him when the movie comes?
Annihilation through Thanos Imperative is overwhelmingly the thing he's been a part of, but if you wanna troll pretend the Black Helmet retcon was good.
Captain Marvel is an exception. They wanted their own Wonder Woman/Superman stock character, and she was it. Sam doesn't do anything that Rich wouldn't. It's just Nova with another name, and for that reason, there's no reason to think he'll have anything to do with it. It's possible they'll blend the characterization of the two, but the name they use will be Richard Rider.
His 70's series is just "Peter Parker only he can fly".
I agree. The same way MCU Pete is just white Miles, MCU Rich will just be Sam in everything but name
Rich is going to be in his 20's if they give him a movie. Highschool is a shitty setting for Nova.
There won't be a single thing lifted from Sam.
What's taking so long for him to come? He was teased in FFH too
Patience, true believer.
there's no way we get comics dick rider. they'll use sam and it will stay mostly on earth
FFH also teased SWORD, we're getting there
I haven't seem FFH but that sounds cool as fuck. Goddamn I love the Marvel Universe so much.
All the signs point to Rich being the one the go with.
They're keeping Phase 4 very hush hush other than the stuff they announced before Endgame and I think we technically don't even know when those are coming out except BW
There is no fricking way they keep a Nova movie on Earth after how much the general audience is chomping for more Cosmic Marvel
Every movie has taken the MCU further and further away from Earth. Why you think they would suddenly decide to add a cosmic character and then ground him is baffling.
I like cosmic shit too, but it's going to be a movie for normies. I see Marvel trying to distance from Green Lantern. Look at how shit Nova Corps was in GotG. I'd bet money on Marvel pointing toward hybrid of Champions/New Warriors, so we would get Kamala, earthbound Nova, maybe even hinting at Miles
>Look at how shit Nova Corps was in GotG
You fix this by getting a director who actually likes Nova and wants to do something with him rather than the guy who cut him from GotG.
I think it will be interesting to see how the Black Widow movie plays out. Disney as brand seems to want teen/YA soap opera kind of stuff, and is riding the line on how edgy they will go. Dick Rider is a macho, tough classic action hero type tearing aliens in half, and that brand of masculine seems off brand for Disney.
Rich sure as shit isn't going to have the Green Lantern origin he originally has. Sam's origin works better for a movie.
Just get a love triangle between him, Gamora, and Star-Lord and you have your Soap Opera.
Who could forget that god awful origin story
>Gamora and Rocket knew Sam's dad decades before forming the GotG
>He was apparently a Nova at least 10 years before Rich, despite Rich being the first ever nova from earth
It was just Loeb desperately trying to pitch something to Fiege.
They should introduce him Guardians 3, then give him a stand-alone movie.
I fear Raimi-Venom levels of bad if Gunn puts him in GotG.
Richard Rider will just look like Sam Alexander.
>Love triangle
Jesus Christ, Star-Lord with Gamora is fucking disgusting
It wasn't really a tease, they literally fucking showed it, sans the logo/name.
It must have been the best post-credits scene I've seen in a while, truth to be told.
That's what Cates is running with. You know, the edgelord dude who claimed to love DnA?
You make the dad not human but Xandarian. That way Rich/Sam is the first "human". I'm fine with some of the GotG knowing of his dad.
That or just don't mention Jesse and make the movie solely about Rich
Chad AF
That would be ideal, yeah, but realistically it'll be Sam
Why the fuck is everyone so damn sure it's gonna be Jeph Loeb's dead son? Fucking Christ, back in 2015 when Spidey was reported to join the MCU, I didn't see people being THIS sure that it was gonna be Miles instead of Peter.
>that time Bucky was Cap, but the movie was coming so you knew it would end
Please don't fuck up his armor and give him irisless eyes like Deadpoll.
Except Jeph Loeb has no input at Marvel Studios and nobody there wants to use Sam.
The people who insist it'll be Sam on this board are simply oblivious of the folks who are behind these movies and actually work on the pitches, else they'd know there's zero chance it's gonna be Sam because he's a legacy character none of them grew up with and is definitely something Loeb would lobby for, not Rosemann or Perlman (who actually had him in the initial scripts for GOTG1).
The OP is just the God of War art director's take on a theoretical MCU Nova
it's not even actual MCU art
Captain Marvel shows that they value representation more than making sense of legacy characters.
So does the entire Spider-Man supporting cast of unrecognizable kids with familiar names.
Bucky makes so much more sense. Brubaker run was fucking great and has made me hate how one note MCU bucky is.
>Captain Marvel shows that they value representation more than making sense of legacy characters.
The fuck? Simply because they didn't use Mar-Vell? Dude, nobody has given a single fuck about OG Marvel in ages, he has barely any stories and he always comes off as a silver age relic with very kooky stories. What you said made absolutely no sense.
No one cared about ANY of the MCU characters until a movie was made about them. How many kids had an Iron Man lunch box in 2007? Zero.
Not a fucking person on earth outside of comics readers knew Rocket Raccoon existed.
Carol had been getting a nonsensical push for YEARS and the MCU glazed right over Mar-Vel, fucking robbed Monica Rambeau of her legit legacy by making her connected to Carol and general gave us a character not even comics fans gave a shit about.
nothing YOU just said makes any sense. Have you not been paying attention?
>fucking robbed Monica Rambeau of her legit legacy
Right, you're one of those, never mind. Monica adopted the Captain Marvel name basically by accident, she had no connection whatsoever with Mar-Vell and her powers work differently so it's not like there's any sort of affinity there, but I know I'm talking with someone who just hates Carol, this is pointless.
Anyway your assertion about "caring more about representation" is still fucking dumb when they almost always go for the original versions of the characters, and when they don't, they still seek to acknowledge the originals (like the Ravagers in GOTG2 or Ant-Man with Hank and Janet). They're not gonna do Sam, sorry.
Carol Danvers counts as a classic character who had her own identity, not a legacy character like Jeph Loeb's dead son is.
Ideal Nova movie:
Basically remake the Last Starfighter where Dick (Chris Pine) takes in a teenage Sam and teaches him the ropes
>Right, you're one of those, never mind. Monica adopted the Captain Marvel name basically by accident, she had no connection whatsoever with Mar-Vell and her powers work differently so it's not like there's any sort of affinity there
GEE-WHIZ you retard, it's almost like that's what I was getting at by complaining that they made her connected to Carol, robbing her of her own place in the Marvel line-up.
> when they almost always go for the original versions of the characters,
Like Drax? Who has no human past and is a retarded alien? Like Nebula who is basically a totally original character? Like every single Spider-Man supporting character is race swapped to fucking hell and back?
>They're not gonna do Sam, sorry.
I fucking hate Sam, if they go with Rich I will surprised but it is not at all realistic to expect them to.
The fact that you guys read people saying they expect Sam as people LIKING or wanting Sam shows a severe malfunction on your part.
>Carol Danvers counts as a classic character who had her own identity,
Who HAD her own identity, yes. They stripped all that away years ago in order to make her a feminist icon.
user, Mar-vell had been dead for like forty years. Meanwhile rich escaped the cancerverse, has been appearing in multiple of books recently, and ewing currently has something planed for him. The Nova movie is obviously going to be about rich.
>I fucking hate Sam, if they go with Rich I will surprised but it is not at all realistic to expect them to.
I hate Sam too, but I'm just gonna give you a quick rundown of who all wants Rich over Sam
>Adam McKay, successful director who was asked to direct GotG 3
>Nicole Perlman, script writer for GotG 1
>Bill Rosemann, VP of Marvel's game department and practically begged Fiege over Twitter to let him help make a Nova movie
>Marcus and McFeely, the guys who wrote Avengers 3 and 4
>Probably a few others
Meanwhile, the only guy lobbying for Sam is the lunatic, Jeph Loeb, who Fiege hates dealing with.
They're going to use Rich if the movie gets made.
And Fiege will be like "Nova has always been one of Marvel's most popular heroes"
They will go on about him being some-kinda-Spanish and call him Rich but with Sam's details.
I'm just saying no one fucking asked for a Carol movie but Fiege did it anyway.
She always was all about the feminism and was literally created with that idea in mind, but I get the feeling you skimmed Reed's run and you legit think all she had was alcoholism. Not worth debating regardless, it's a Nova thread.
>f they go with Rich I will surprised but it is not at all realistic to expect them to.
You also sound like the kinda guy who hates the MCU in principle, again, not worth dissuading you, all evidence points towards what's been said already, if you wanna believe it's gonna be Sam and get upset at some unrealistic scenario, you go ahead.
>I'm just saying no one fucking asked for a Carol movie but Fiege did it anyway.
And it paid off. Your point?
>no one is asking for Sam!
>no one was asking for carol
>your point?
are you stupid?
>I get the feeling you skimmed Reed's run and you legit think all she had was alcoholism
You've got literally no reason to think that other than your own smug asshattery.
Except no one is pushing for Sam in first place, and your idea that "no one was asking for Carol" is just your brain on Yea Forums.
Again, pointless. The investment paid off, deal with it. No reason whatsoever to think they'll go for Sam because no one has even mentioned him, they always talk about Rich.
She's one of Fiege's favorite characters and they wanted her to be the main chick since all other notable female characters were with fox or sony. Of course she gets special treatment, but Sam won't and nothing about him will be used.
user you seem pretty angry for something that hasn't happened (which will most likely not happen). Carol is being pushed but sam isn't. Hell, i can even say marvel comics is pushing rich more by making him appear in multiple of books like darkhawk, Black order, GOTG, Annuel, and again Ewing is doing some thing with him. Meanwhile, Sam has only appeared in champions.
You guys(?) sure are optimistic but I'll keep my tinfoil hat on all the same. Either I'll be pleasantly surprised or I'll have a "told ya so". either one works
It's abundantly obvious Rich is their first and only choice. Sam's push ended years ago and he's been heading towards obscurity for some time now.
user, you understimate Fiege's disdain for loeb. Fiege will not do a single thing from sam out of spite for Loeb for all the commitee bullshit
Eternals is also coming out fall 2020. Shangchi is set for 2021, probably fall. With February and May also reserved in 2021, you can bet that one of them will be Black Panther. Then February, May, July for 2022. GOTG 3 will take one of these, probably May
What’s this from my buddy? Love seeing my boy Richie
GotG Volume 2 issue 1. That's the only page he's in.
Shang Chi is probably February 2021. Chinese New Year and all.
Well fuck me, but thanks for sharing the source.
I mean yeah, obviously.
Either Darkhawk or Nova will very likely look similar to Sam Alexander in the comics because Marvel wants to make a movie similar to DC's Blue Beetle but try to have it be better than theirs.
But now he's just male Carol.
Nah he'll be Richard Rider, no one wants to pay royalties to Loeb and supported Ikeagainst Feige. Plus the Marvel Studios people are Richfags, Nicole Perlman, Markus and Mcfeely (they played with having him on Infinity Wars), Adam Mckay who people speculated went to Feige to talk about replacing Gunn but that wa snever confirmed has been a Richfag since he was a kid, Bill Rosemann who is head of Marvel Games is pals with Feige and edited DnA's Nova run, also a Richfag.
Feige read Annihilation and laughed when asked about his thoughts on the Inhumans show, Gunn, even though doesn't care for Nova and hates Mcgloin, said he had no ill will against Rich and when specifically asked about Rich he said that they were considering him for the MCU.
>Diversity casting
We will sooner see a Latino Richard Rider than Sam.
Mar-Vell has been dead for decades and Carol has had a bigger presence than him. Plus Feige needed a female hero and Wacker was pushing her so he noticed her. Sam didn't outshine Rich no matter how hard he was pushed and even though they are both pretty much in the shitter comicwise at least Rich has a good story were he starred and people in Marvel Studios who like him.
Being given powers by a dying alien isn't exactly exclusive to the GLs (see Power pack or Animorphs). There is enough to differentiate it too since Rhomann Dey and Rich never met, Rich isn't worthy of anything it was just a fluke, and Dey killed Zorr before he died.
But really they can change that or whatever but all that would matter is that Rich is the last Nova and they can avoid the space cop thing and just make him go all Lone Ranger. It's enough to differentiate his origin from Hal's.
God no, just have Rich get with Ko-Rel or that Regalian who had the hots for him. We really don't need a shitty love triangle.
I am willing to bet he won't, at the most an after credits tease will happen.
The fact that Winter Soldier in the comics had personality even when brainwashed and that they kept the whole angst about getting his identity back to a few issues really helped.
Has Feige racebent a main character in a movie? Not a supporting character but a main character.
How?
Valkyrie? And even then she's stated to be *a* Valkyrie, not the only one (her actual name is Scraper 142).
I don't think anyone actually feels militant over the character to care about ethnicity in that case. Same goes for Mordo.
Good post. But just a thought, I don't think he needs a love interest, if anything Captain Marvel proved was that you don't need to have a love interest in a movie to make it work, which was a departure from every other MCU movie.
The fact that Rich is suddenly appearing in multiple books is pretty weird on itself. No way would Marvel Entertainment just start using him like that for no reason. Also there's a new Funko of him that's an exclusive and it's pretty weird since he's a literally who to most people.
something is up.
It is refreshing for sure, I just wish better writers were handling him (eagerly awaiting to see what Ewing does with him), but I'm not complaining much since he already did his part in the GOTG arc and is free to be used elsewhere.
Yeah he doesn't need a love interest but you know they will want to push one on him. But I'll be fine if they don't give him one. Him having a female supporting character is enough to satisfy most people.
What if Marc Spector joined the Nova Corps, how would he do? I'm genuinely curious and think this could make an awesome concept.
Rael would be nice, as long as they don't kill her off too soon that is, she barely lasted a few hours before getting killed, the poor woman.
Don't think they'd trust the guy with a helmet, his head would implode.
>since he's a literally who to most people.
Right now he's the potential new MCU character to MCUfags. There's articles about him being in the MCU, rumors too, and Raf Grassetti's pic that OP used plus the one he has in his twitter as a header (twitter.com
Also on Reddit Rich is one of the most requested comic characters that people want to see in the MCU besides Moon Knight and when people talk about Nova in the MCU subreddit it's mostly about Rich.
So just by going on that I can say he's on most casual Marvelfag radars but yeah a literal who with normies.
So besides Captain America what other heroes have joined the Nova corps whether intentionally or temporarily? I miss Nova Cap, that was actually pretty cool.
There was that arc in Duggan's run when the GOTG joined the Corps, but the most effective member was definitely Rocket. Other than that I don't remember any other one who has wore the helmet.
>But really they can change that or whatever but all that would matter is that Rich is the last Nova and they can avoid the space cop thing.
Being a space cop wasn't even his thing considering the Nova corps was a Xandarian militia. Even when they tried to make the Nova corps into GLs Rich was mostly stationed on Earth and was just an earth hero. The beginning of Annihilation Prologue showed him with the other Novas but eh doesn't do much police work or anything. As a matter in fact Ewing's Annual story is the first time I see him behaving like a cop.
>make him go all Lone Ranger
I think that fits him better than space cop because it was pretty similar to what he was in Annihilation. He was left for dead with the rest of the Novas and he survives and is traumatized and angry at Annihilus and wants payback.
Then in DnA's run he's basically one of those western wandering lawmen protags who go from town to town (or in Rich's case planet to to space station to ship) dispensing justice by helping people and defeating the bad guy.
>As a matter in fact Ewing's Annual story is the first time I see him behaving like a cop.
Hah yeah, that was Ewing's past 2000AD influence seeping through. Until then he was dealing with other 8x8 alerts though, like the time he went to the planet that was about to be turned by the Tide before he got infected. Difference being the attitude towards the natives, he seemed more detached (though it doesn't help it was gangster skrulls who treated him as a cop).
Seeing Spector handle Worldmind would be interesting. I know Rich had trouble it WM sometimes and at points would space out from information overload to the point he would miss whole briefings given to him by Star-Lord.
That was fun, shame Rich was mindcontrolled by the Serpent Crown and that he died shortly after that since Brubaker really wanted to use him for his Secret Avengers team and had cosmic related stories for him to be involved.
But I liked how he showed that Rich was dangerous to the point he easily wiped the floor with Valkyrie and Rhodey.
Yeah he definitely got more emotional in the DnA story, even the one were he fails to save that Kree ship when he came to late and had heard an old SOS and they all had been dead for awhile.
I like to think that in the Annual story he was just too fucked up by too many things that he was just a little dead inside. But it did affect him since he took a leave of absence and was in a bar. Also his speech to Wendell showed he was pretty jaded about how things were going.
Of course all of that and his lack of faith is what saves him from being Controlled by the Universal Church of Truth. No faith.
I'm curious how Konshu would react to Worldmind "invading" Marc, hell I don't think Konshu would even let Marc bond with a symbiote but it would be awesome seeing how his different personalities react.
El Bumpo Cósmico
Definitely. Comics Bucky was still a swashbuckling comic hero at his core, and Cap was basically his big brother. Him coming to grips with his past while trying to fill Steve's gigantic shoes was just perfect.
I also loved how they differentiated him from Cap in action scenes, like when Crossbones gets pissed because fucking Captain America knifed him.
Lol true, seeing him just do the most UnCap-like things and being a smartass was part of the fun of BuckyCap. Also a lot of the heroes were pretty iffy about him. Clint in the begging but he eventually came to accept him even though there was some jealousy with Bucky being the new Cap and his relationship with Steve.
Which is also why it sucks that some writers are writing Bucky like his MCU version or are making him incredibly edgy. Hell the latest Tes of Suspense story did this plus had a shitty Hawkeye that was a poor take on Fraction's Hawkeye, they both didn't like each other and it was awful.
>Black Order mini: Nova wipes the floor with the Black Order.
>Cates GotG: Can't take them out with a laser rifle, doesn't know who Proxima is.
Whoever wrote that mini needs to come back and do something Marvel Cosmic related.
I think Rich needs an on-going series that focuses on just him. I'm hoping he gets something announced at SDCC
love when Bucky shoots someone and their reaction is "Cap uses a gun now!?!?!"
Man I miss BuckyCap
No one likes Dick besides faggots
Nobody likes Sam besides Jeph Loeb
My guy, I seriously just want Machine Man and Mr Machine in the MCU already
Those 25 or so issues where Bucky is Captain America is the best Cap comics I've ever read. Peak espionage.
COPE.
This, this shit right here, it's so fucking hilarious how incompetently Cates wrote Rich. It's like, why even bother calling yourself the "Manager of Cosmic" if you're not going to follow continuity?
Would it have been so hard to give Black Swan a line right there about wanting payback after the beatdown he gave her?
She's even getting ready to hit him from behind.
Al Ewing or Derek Landy, or Tini Howard are better Marvel Cosmic writers than him.
He is most likely not aware of that mini which is BS since it just happened. Shouldn't at least whatever Editor is in charge of Cosmic keep track of this stuff? Rich not knowing Proxima is dumb.
And yeah Black Swan was pretty pissed at him last time she saw him, a developing hater for Rich on her part would be interesting.
