It’s not just the adults. A lot of DC animated shit has been pretty robotic lately. Although Superman and Wonder Woman have been hit pretty hard by it in Young Justice specifically. The child friendly JLAction and Superhero Girls have more personality.

Not really. It had 10 new team members and scattered attention throughout all of them (vs. mostly focusing on the Outsiders this season), the plot was rushed, the Reach were lame, and it took itself too seriously. Season three isn't perfect, but it's been avoiding a lot of what made two such a drag.

I hate the way this show superheroics as basically being spec ops. It's such a dreary way to kill all the fun in the concept. I think part of what bothers me with this season is that the show's grown too self-aware about its own themes and seeing ANOTHER group of superpowered teens learning to work with their origin stories and work as a team with no interesting twist doesn't have a lot of charm anymore, especially when mixed with a flat characterization of all of them and juggling like 4 different plots, two of which being some of the most overdone in DC adaptations (Fourth World and Judas Contract).

I don't know how many people reading these threads know about Masks: The New Generation. It's a roleplaying game/storygame for essentially playing off-brand Young Justice. In previous seasons the main cast didn't map 1:1 with what could be their Masks playbooks with the exception of Superboy. Now I'm just a little bit suspicious that Weisman is aware of the game and built everyone as Masks characters while in production, only deviating in the suggested powers. On the other hand, it could be that the "teen superhero"/sidekick subgenre has already been strip-mined for every compelling archetype already and Weisman and the writers of Masks are just borrowing the exact same concepts. Still uncanny matches all around, though.

Those are pretty much just old school fantasy/literature tropes anyways.
It's more that that the team are very base concepts without a lot of extra characterization than them following those conventions.

The descriptions are extremely vague and in any case, those are just classic archetypes, You can do this with pretty much every show and franchise.

I would argue following archeytypes isn't a bad idea. The 2003 Teen Titans cartoon is beloved and that's essentially just superheroics Scooby-Doo.

Archetyping isn't bad but you should have at least one extra bit of characterization so you aren't a cardboard cutout. Most of the 03 Titan cast had an episode a season where their secondary characteristic got flushed out.

Apparently he wanted to split up the team (it's bad enough what the comics did with Taranee), reveal the magic to the girls' parents and some of their classmates, and keep going with the ridiculous backstories of why exactly the Guardians were chosen (as if U is for Undivided wasn't bad enough in that sense).
Also unconfirmed rumors say that the main villain would've been completely different, that the Astral Drops would cause trouble (didn't the show already do that storyline?) and there may not have been an Arkhanta or Orube at all

Of course, I'm not at all sure there was a way to do season 3 well at all. The first 2 seasons fit together like a perfect jigsaw puzzle with Trill/the Mage/the whole ending with Phobos and Cedric, while Sylla and Riddle are literally introduced out of nowhere in the final episode. In almost every way it really feels like the show ended on its own, instead of being cancelled.

I've actually been thinking that there's way more Gabrielle in Halo than she lets everyone on. To clarify, in the comic version the only way to "kill" her permanently was to attack the soul rather than the body. If the "very old soul" got attacked or trapped by magic it's game over. It was implied that the body can be completely destroys but as long as the soul is intact the genie can reform it.
